Every time I think about relaxers, I think about how bad my hair was. I was never happy with my relaxed hair, but at the time it was the "norm" to look like this. The ones with beautiful relaxed hair have the funds to upkeep their hair, and I used to envy them in middle and high school. I remember one summer I cut off all my damaged relaxed hair and hid it under wigs and barely went out. My hair grew out a lot before school started back, and guess what I did? I went straight back to relaxers, and my mom and I were surprised at the length (we didn't understand shrinkage back then). It grew back around shoulder length, the length it had always been for years, but we were surprised at how it grew back to my OG length.
We weren't thinking because it was in its natural state and it was so thick? My hair has always been thinner in relaxers. My mom said my hair has always been thick since I was little, but I forgot for years with relaxers. I was so happy with my relaxed hair. After a few months, it got thinner, and with home upkeep, some parts got overprocessed and fell out.
It made sense to me after that point-thinking how thick and beautiful my natural hair was during that summer-that my hair is better off without relaxers. I was thinking about it for months until I saw a girl wearing a high puff in public-her beautiful glistening 4C hair! It was the first time I appreciated my hair texture; it made me dive into looking for products because I wanted to know how she made her hair look so moisturized. Never looked back since!
Sharing this because your video reminded me how my hair looked - I only wish I rocked my twa stages "twice"

I'm in the same boat 😭 relaxed my hair after 4 years natural and it was a disaster. I might be able to salvage it but I'm so aggy. Currently 4 months post relaxer and thinking I'll chop off the relaxer.

You look lovely with your TWA. I suggest try the 30 day detox from “I am black girl curls”. They have TH-cam and IG accounts with the same name. I’ve adopted their method in 2021 and it has completely changed my natural hair journey for the better! After 12 years being natural and trying all the trends (including LCO), that’s saying something. I can wash, condition, detangle and style my hair in an hour doing a wash and go. My hair is so soft now and doesn’t break like it used to. I think you would love it!

Yes yes. Their method is the truth! Especially that you have a TWA so your hair isn't too used to previous things done to it so not much to detox the hair from.
