A Diné woman once told me, 'be still and the Earth will speak to you.' It meant more than she will ever know. I think you two have been amazing listeners to the Earth and even more so in the last year (as from what I can see). For years now, without failure, with every new piece of content, I grow more and more fond and proud of what you learn and your growth and mentality and dedication and even surprised by you (in good ways). Hope restored in people little by little lol.
You are so blessed to be able to do this at your age. My husband and I did everything we were "supposed" to do when we were in our 20's. Worked, got a mortgage, then worked simply to pay the mortgage and the bills, which was hard because when we had kids, we decided that I'd stay home to be with them (which I don't regret at all). I sincerely wish we had known about tiny living, homesteading, being able to home school our kids, etc....all of the things that we have been told is "not normal" anymore, because I know we would have had a better life and my husband would have had more time with our kids when they were younger. Now we are 46 and 48 and looking to do parts of that dream now - get land...get a yurt and build a homestead and become self-reliant and we feel it's more important now than ever because it's plain to see where "the system" is going....where it is faltering. And you just get sick of lining everybody else's pockets. Our daughter's family with our new grandbaby wants to share the dream with us which is amazing. We want the land to be there for all of our kids to have whenever things go south in the world. Somewhere were they will be safe, can hunt and grow food and feed their families. Somewhere where they can live in harmony with the natural world, and not against it. I'm really looking forward to seeing you achieve your goals and thank you so much for inviting us to watch and learn
@@kathymitchell5325 😘💕 you kind of made my day! Rough week I've had...not to complain, but I almost dread clicking on replies now. Thank you for taking the time to lift me even though you didn't know I needed it! I wish you a fabulous rest of your week
It’s going to be so beautiful! Can’t wait to see it all transpire. If you get the water flowing, I would suggest planting the fruit trees sooner than later so they’ll be established and fruiting quickly. And planting a well thought out wind break of tall trees will help immensely and also beautify.
Plant the wind break tree first. I made the mistake of planting fruit trees and the wind demolished most of them and they took way too much water. The ones that survived brought in rats, rabbits, mice that ate the fallen fruit and destroyed my wiring in my truck. Got the well in only to find out I had to also put in a 4k water system to filter out the arsenic and other contamination. It’s not an easy life for women as most of my neighbors wives have left to go back to town and get an apartment. So when she has a gripe such as the wind, etc., ya better listen.
Colorado is a crazy mix of every weather scenario possible. Fire mitigation is something you want to think about sooner than later. With the mild winter we've had it makes me nervous about the coming season.
Also, to build on what Sax Cobra said, if you have insurance, great. If not then research if you can get insurance in case you need to bail if a fire comes through. I'm starting to think we need to build under the ground instead of watching homes burn above ground, over and over again. Other option is building with materials that aren't wood.
@@karibaxter5330 yes, going underground is an excellent idea, but make sure it's deeper than just a basement. I don't think a mere basement would be sufficient, perhaps a basement beneath a basement?
As the years go along, you two are going to be the most interesting couple. You will have learned so much as you take this path you've chosen. All of the things you spoke about in this video will come to fruition and you will get great satisfaction out of all of it. At the age of 7, I watched a piece of land that was full of wild growth and a pond, become a large hole in the ground (after the well was established) and then the hole became a concrete basement that only opened at one end and then an A-framed house was erected over that concrete hole. It was very organic and beautiful as if it had come out of the land as a mountain would. I'm 55 now and it's still changing and growing. Now, there is an amazing treehouse with a Japanese garden and waterfall and a bamboo forest that has been used to build so many things. I look forward to watching your land grow and change, and you along with it!
I don’t know what zone you live in but once you guys decide where you want to build your house and shop you should decide on what tree is best for your zone and plant a windbreak of trees around your living area. Eastern white pine, Colorado blue spruce, White cedar, Douglas fur and White fur can all be planted to form a large wall of trees or a giant wind fence around your homestead, you might even plant them before you start building your house to give them a head start on growing large enough to create that windbreak. This is done a lot on the great plains to block homes and barnes from the high winds.
Usually, when youtubers buy a homestead, I drop my subscription out of boredom. There's something different about you two. Ive been hooked for years. I'm intrigued.
Congratulations again on the purchase of your own little piece of heaven. I truly appreciate the intention and care you two have for "your" land and look forward to seeing what you do with it.
I love how you guys address the "problems" like sun or wind as just a simple adjustment to learning how to live on your homestead without changing the natural beauty of it. The wind can be your best friend with energy production, even having the house facing a particular direction to help shield the wind from a very common walkway or anything to can help. So much potential!
Owning 40 acres is wonderful and Im so happy you found your home. I have 2 acres in Ct. I have chickens and ducks for eggs and food. I plant a big garden and can every year. You work with what you have. I also planted an apple peach trees when I had each of my 4 kids. Be blessed and enjoy the land you worked so hard for.
Loved hearing all about your land! You have such epic views, I tell everyone it's like a mini-yellostone looking at half dome with that rock formation across the street from your place. We'll explore a ton of those motorized trails this summer, planning to bring my 4 wheeler out with me. Looking forward to it!

Its beautiful sacred land and thank you for addressing that uncomfortable issue. 💕 being good to the land will always give back to you. Excited to see what you guys build🤗
Thanks for the tour. Elsa Rhae and Barron, you are the young generation, of my generation heroes Helen and Scott Nearing. You folks are an inspiration to many people. Good luck to you, "Living the Good Life!!"
Trees, yesss, more trees! Fruit trees sound awesome, and all the rest. So smart to get a lot of acres. One of the sweetest places I've ever lived was surrounded by dense woods (and located at the end of a dirt road), so the privacy was delicious. But it was kind of an illusion, because just outside of those woods was, um, concrete roads and homes. When the owner had first bought the property though, it was way more rural (before the land close by was all purchased and such). Even so, lots of awesome critter encounters. One of my favs was walking through the house one day and spotting a deer hopping out of the woods into our front/side yard. And then another, and another... I counted at least 8 deer. They were so comfortable out there. Some nibbling on the trees, others lounging in the grass in the shade. So wonderful watching them. There were also gorgeous butterflies and birds. I especially adore birds (I have lots of winged "totems"). Wondering what kind of birds you guys are seeing. Indeed, Nature knows when you respect her and she'll love you back for it. That connection is magical.
as an older person with some old injuries, or at the very least someone that has been unable to do stairs after a medical procedure, if this is your forever home then you will be happy that you decided on one level, there are so many benefits! if you have children and you want more space for bedrooms or for whatever reason, so much easier adding on especially with 40 acres
You guys are cultivating such a harmonious relationship with the land, and I have no doubt that you will receive its gratitude in return. It’s something not many people are able to grasp. Always refreshing to see and why I respect you guys so much!
It is so fun to watch you two move through the different stages of building a life together, from the Scamp to buying land, I can't wait to see you vision of a home come to life here!!
I’m so happy for you both. It’s an enormous journey which we have been on for a number of years! We also lived on our land before starting to build for a year and the savings on energy consumption having placing our land north facing (Southern Hemisphere) is enormous. In winter often the wood fired heater is lit around 4.30-5pm. Our concrete slab acts as a heat sink warming the house too. Summer will be better once the hops vines cover our pergola near the double glazed windows. I’ve planted She Oaks as wind breaks as it allow wind to flow through them thus not causing other uplift thermals. A real problem if a tree totally blocks the wind. There is so much great information around now on best orientation for building. Shame only 10% of people follow it.
My parents lived on the western slope. They finally built a Walmart about a half hour from their land. Before that it was at least an hour drive. Lots of scrub oak, different trees. They had to go through alot to build, even had to use dynamite! Before they could build. It's absolutely beautiful! Almost 40yrs ago, I don't know where the time has gone. Love your channel! Lots of Love 💗
I've been following you two for at least a couple of years now and have so much respect, admiration, and care for your life and journey. So excited for you too! You're both so intelligent and capable in different yet totally compatible ways. I'm confident whatever you want for "your" land, it'll be good. And the "aina" brought you there. She's happy to have you there to help support and protect her. Love to you and your pup!
Just wanted to say hello and greetings from Finland! I've been following you guys for quite some time now, and I don't know why, but this video particularly made me want to stop and write my thoughts here. Your lifestyle is so different from mine, and I wouldn't want to live like you two live (my choices were just different, and now I'm so happy with all the things I have, like a warm home with few bedrooms 😅), but both of you still inspire me so much! You leave my soul in peace and heart warm. You two restore my belief in the kindness and wisdom of people, you show how to honor all the living around you. And that just speaks to me 💚 sending so much positive vibes and I hope all the best to you! 💕
We did exactly that when my husband and I were in our early 20's. It was extremely non traditonal at the time and we heard our fair share of comments "Hippies, wierdo's, losers" But we learned so, so much and grew to absolutely love the raw essense of a life lived so close to nature. Our life has a lot more conveniences these days, but we still live out in the woods and spend a great deal of time enjoying nature. We will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary this year and man, its been a great life. You two will never regret this life you have chosen. Best of luck in all your ventures.
Love you kids! Your ideas are so grounded and natural. We feel the same as you folks do and we also live in CO. SWCO in Pagosa Springs. Our idea for building a home was to first build one obtuse structure that employs the first view we love and then down the road build the second obtuse structure that employs our second favorite view. Once the living structures were built the ground in between the structures would be the communal area between the two structures, protected from the winds and the heat… Your property is the type of area that will accommodate the time it would take while building at your leisure and enjoying a long life of building and purposing the land as you need. Best of luck on your plans!
My daughter built a greenhouse last summer and she harvested veggies into Feb this winter. It is a learning curve on what grows well. She lives in Louisiana, so they get some winter but not terrible. I think the dome will be great.
I live in an apartment city after moving from the country, I consciously chose a home next to a federally protected conservation area complete with a nature trail, coyotes, swans, geese, deer, and a prison lol. It's a slice of heaven within an environment of convenience.
So interesting to hear about the changes you've noticed in the land, already. I dream about having a tiny piece of land with a small home. So excited to follow your adventure.
That’s a beautiful bit of the Earth you have there. I very like your philosophy of being stewards, and working with the land and the elements. Looking forward to your future growth, and ‘improvements’ to the property. Positive Vibrations
Congratulations and thank you for the tour. Y'all (I'm Texan and will never say "you guys") are still very young at age 30. You should be proud of yourselves how how far you've come in such a young age. There is a huge chunk of the United States that are not able to save up or live the life you have shown us. I'll be 40 in a few weeks I don't even know very many 40-year-olds that can pay $100,000 in cash and have that kind of money saved up. The reality is that it's very hard out there to save up when you're living paycheck to paycheck. But you two were resourceful, smart and got on social media at the right time to help elevate and inspire others...and Im sure the tube income helped ;) I'm excited to see what comes next for you 🥂😎😎👍🏼🔥🔥
I never comment but I just wanted to say that you are on the most awesome adventure! I am glad you are able to share with all of us. You both seem so happy now that you are somewhat settled. Again, thanks for sharing.
It just makes my heart happy to watch the three of you. And I understand how exciting it is to have a place of your own. We have 45 acres right by the dam at Smithville Lake and three sides bordering our property are core land so we understand your desire to be up against public land. I don’t have a right to be proud of you but I am. You have created the life you dreamt of and that’s an awesome thing.❤️🍀🍀❤️
Your both blessed to have each other and good neighbors. It gonna be alot of work but I know it be wonderful if you stay true to what "you" want. Sending you good vibes and love from NashvilleTn.
Lots of responsibility, but an amazing new adventure. You are definitely grownups now. Don't worry, if you embrace it, it will build you into even better people! Love n'hugs from South of England.
I lived like you two back in 2019 ,I didn't had a home so I lived in mc gaffey wish is in the mountains, forest, I lived in a lil house, water, woods, food, hygenie , gota be prepared, but I liked it.. now I got a home, and feels werid being in a home, but you two couples are great people, you injoy life, that's the way I see it...
It feels like just yesterday u bought the land and it’s so beautiful !!! I admire your goals and being 60 years old I must say follow your heart ♥️ and do as much as u can to enjoy life because at a blink of a eyes it’s over and u can’t go back to 30 God Bless u both and stay safe so happy your living the dream!!!

You should build your different buildings in a U-shape. Then you would have a yard protected from the wind.
I was also think a long line with a certain pitched roof to keep wind out of the back yard

You guys are cultivating such a harmonious relationship with the land, and I have no doubt that you will receive its gratitude in return. It’s something not many people are able to grasp. Always refreshing to see and why I respect you guys so much!
There will always be things you want to change!
It is so fun to watch you two move through the different stages of building a life together, from the Scamp to buying land, I can't wait to see you vision of a home come to life here!!
I think a retreat in the distant future would be wonderful. I'm glad you two are happy.
Scamp just chilling out was great
“The Land” so awesome
What an adventurous couple. Happy that all your plans are slowly coming together. I can't wait to see what is your future.
I love listening to the two of you talk , your communication style is a teaching in itself . Blessings🌹
Yall will do great. Anyone who has lived in the Scamp for as long as yall have. You will just fine. Love you 2
I can't believe it's been a year already! Wow so cool!
Silent Fan here from Philippines! I always watch your vlogs over and over ❤️ Just do it whatever it is we will support you all the way. ❤️
I really like how Barron articulates things so it doesn’t offend people.
In a time where people like us who don’t even want to get out of bed ,you guys are total inspiration .
You guys are so awesome! I would totally come to a retreat when you get that going! Can’t wait to see what you create!!
Wow, time is flying
Kamp puts a smile on my face every time he goes walkies in the back pack harness, he is just a superstar. Take Care & Stay Safe, Hugs UK
I’m so excited for you!
Certainly enjoyed this little tour.
Glad you understand that calling it "our land" is a mixed bag! Having said that , I'm glad you at least acknowledge it! Good luck!
So looking forward to videos on your house build & green house!!!!!! Very excited for you guys!!!
Thank you so much for taking us on this awesome journey!
MORE PLEASE LIKE TWICE AWEEK, MISS YOU THREE TOO MUCH
Big dreams and a lot of work but WELL worth it I assure you! Good luck both xx
So interesting to hear about the changes you've noticed in the land, already. I dream about having a tiny piece of land with a small home. So excited to follow your adventure.
I love how conscious you are of being stewards of your land. ❤️
But you two were resourceful, smart and got on social media at the right time to help elevate and inspire others...and Im sure the tube income helped ;) I'm excited to see what comes next for you 🥂😎😎👍🏼🔥🔥
You're in a beautiful place with beautiful surroundings
Please don’t apologize for being a land owner! I’m so happy for both you and Elsa oh and Kamp!😊❤️🐶
Looking forward to seeing what you accomplish in your 2nd year!
Hi 👋 Darcy, how are you doing?
I love how grateful you are, enough said❤️❤️
I never comment but I just wanted to say that you are on the most awesome adventure!
Love "your" land and your perspectives on taking care of it. Look forward to seeing you grow it!
I’m excited for you two! It’s so fun to watch you both figure it out, from nomad life in the Scamp to developing your land. Blessings 💗💗
Your both blessed to have each other and good neighbors. It gonna be alot of work but I know it be wonderful if you stay true to what "you" want. Sending you good vibes and love from NashvilleTn.
So true, if you compromise thinking you'll fix it later, later never comes.
Lots of responsibility, but an amazing new adventure. You are definitely grownups now. Don't worry, if you embrace it, it will build you into even better people! Love n'hugs from South of England.
So happy for you guys. Your journey is very inspiring. You guys have guts. Hats off to you.

I know there are many other TH-camrs out there, but Elsa Rhae & Barron (and Kamp!!!) you are my comfort channel! Every time you post I know my anxiety will be put to rest for a little bit.
A lot of these conversations were so thoughtful and reflective and the language you used was so thought out. Excited to see your journey continue!
I can't wait to see how it all progresses! Very exciting to watch...
