You are the first one on rolled hem videos that explained to use the threads to pull the fabric through. Everyone else fumbled trying to say that the fabric takes practice trying to get it curved around the funnel. I like your technique the best. Thank you.
I was trying to figure out how to use some kind of lead, to help pull it through. A few stitches are perfect. I must try this, soon. Ok, now I need to see something about sewing a corner on a scarf, say. I haven’t been able to get it to look good. Help!!
Wow, Thanks so much! You are right, so many are afraid of doing this, and I had two people bring me formal dresses needing the rolled hem. I watched video, after video, did the dresses, and I was happy with the results, better yet so were the customers. You are Awesome, Thank You! I am a quilter, not a seamstress.
I just recently learned how to sew a rolled hem on my 1907 Singer Treadle. I can't believe after over 113 years the technology really hasn't changed! I love your tip of adding a thread guide to start!
I actually learned how to use my rolled hem foot from YOU! I have watched hours of tutorials but you showed me the trick and I went to my machine and sewed a perfect rolled hem! THANK YOU! Now I can finish my blouse!
OMG I could cry out of happiness I spent hours trying to figure out how to use my foot no method made sense to me and then I watched yours on 0,75 speed and it all made perfect sense!!!! You're the best teacher
I am so happy to have found you on TH-cam! I have avoided trying to use my rolled hem foot for years. You have given me the confidence to try and to practice. Thank you for the trick and the encouragement!
This finally worked for me after watching and rewatching and rewatching! I finally saw the missing advice......to hold the fabric edge straight up! I kept trying to ‘help’ the hem by trying to thread the fabric into the spiral already rolled. No go! I had watched the other videos. Yours was The only one that worked. Thank you
I've been trying to master the rolled hem since I got my machine last March. Your tutorial is brilliant managed a beautiful hem second time of trying. Thank you so much.
This video was fantastic!! I always was afraid to use the rolled hem foot because I have multiple people say it doesn’t always feed and roll evenly but these tips are great! I’m going to watch your other posts now you made things so easy to understand! Thank you!
I simply stitch a long thread through the corner with a hand sewing needle. I like that better than sewing machine stitches into the corner that I can manage to make a mess of sometimes.
Thanks, I'm not well today and am in bed but am going on holiday/vacation to Spain in 3 weeks time. Your video makes me want to jump out of bed and try right now. Blessings
EXCCELLENT! The voice of experience for sure. This is what I needed, a "start". Thank you so much, need to go now and practice practice practice. Thank you sooooooooo much and God Bless!
I usually just eyeball my rolled hems, but I'm making 4 dinner napkins for someone and need them to be perfect. I'll be using my rolled hem foot for the first time this weekend! Can't wait.
Can you do this again but show how to sew in the round and over seams with the foot? I did my sleeves recently on a shirt (I shortened the sleeves) and I struggled so much and it looks like a disaster!!! Thanks so much for this video though!
Thank you! Most tutorials only show how to start a rolled hem, but they don't show how you're supposed to finish it off. It feels very obvious now, but it certainly was not obvious to me.
I’m going to replay video again. Can’t grasp how you’re explaining about where the seams join. Looks easy on a ‘flat’ piece of fabric, but in the real world hems are ‘round’. Please do a demo on starting and ending. Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I'm not having any luck. When you start, what do you mean by "I've got my hem turned?" Do you fold over the corner and make three stitches where you've folded the corner? Thanks!
when i try to make that little starting stitch it just pulls out. we need to backstitch to lock it in I guess. when I do that I get a tangle of threads. but I can sort that out and the technique works. good one. thanks.
I had heard of the thread pull many years ago but never tried it. Thanks for reminding me to try it. However, the trouble I have is doing a rolled hem on a curve. It just gets all messed up. Any help there?
This is fantastic. I love it. But still having trouble with my old Kenmore. There are several sprays under the name Sullivan. Which is this? Thank you so much, you're fantastic!
You remind me of me! Hahaha I meant that as a complete compliment. Long time seamstress here. Love to share techniques. I will subscribe. Keep up the good work.
My english isn't too good, so am I right if I understood it like I should not sew over the "vertical" seem when i shorten clothes? Just leave like 0,5 cm open seem on each side to the vertical seem? :-)
I just tried it and I want to scream. I guess I will look for Sullivan Spray. You make it look so easy and your fabric does what you want. I’m trying it on a tricot knit an it just wants to roll away from the foot.
I have rolled hem feet, nightmare, even using this trick! It's fine if your fabric is exactly straight, any miss measurement or if your heming on a curve (eg circle skirt) then all it does is twist the fabric
You can sew one free line first at rear to make it crook a little bit. Then use rolled foot. Please visit my clothing alterations channel. Thank you very much
Was this demo so easy to do because you already had a stabilizing seam all the way down., with no raw edges? Would have been mice if the camera had been directed at the presser foot.

Hello Katie
This is genius! I look at other videos and tried what they said and they did not work for me. I will be trying this. Simple but effective.Thank you!
I’m glad I saw your video! Very precise explanation. Thank you
This was the best tutorial on creating a rolled hem!!! Thank you!!!!

Oh my gosh, thank you! I found you after watching three others who didn't manage to explain it somehow at all. After yours, it was so easy to do!!
I actually learned how to use my rolled hem foot from YOU! I have watched hours of tutorials but you showed me the trick and I went to my machine and sewed a perfect rolled hem! THANK YOU! Now I can finish my blouse!
WHERE have you BEEN all of my life?? love your techniques and your presentation... thanks for this!

I just found your channel and I’m so glad that I did. Thank you!
Best tutorial on the roll hem ,thank you.
OH MY!! That was genius!! I have been using my rolled hem foot but what a mess when I hit those side seams. Thank you for sharing your trick!
This video was fantastic!! I always was afraid to use the rolled hem foot because I have multiple people say it doesn’t always feed and roll evenly but these tips are great! I’m going to watch your other posts now you made things so easy to understand! Thank you!
Wow, great tip, will give my rolled hem presser foot another go.
Thank you for your tutorial. Your techniques make sense, look beautiful, and offer professional results.
I simply stitch a long thread through the corner with a hand sewing needle.
I like that better than sewing machine stitches into the corner that I can manage to make a mess of sometimes.
What a great idea! That makes sense. Because doing it by machine could jam-up the thread. Thanks!
These are WONDERFUL instructions! Thank you
Hi, how are you doing my friend
Thanks, I'm not well today and am in bed but am going on holiday/vacation to Spain in 3 weeks time. Your video makes me want to jump out of bed and try right now. Blessings
I've been looking for this video bc I just ordered rolled hem foot. Thank you.

Thanks! You’re an awesome teacher!
Going out to get one today, best tutorial that I have seen on this foot. I love the way you start the hem with the handle looks much easier.
I usually just eyeball my rolled hems, but I'm making 4 dinner napkins for someone and need them to be perfect. I'll be using my rolled hem foot for the first time this weekend! Can't wait.
Thank you so much for this video! I think I love you for this ❤️ I have been STRUGGLING
You are so wonderful!! Finally did it without the struggle! Thank you!
Wow you tip was great! Got it in the first try! 💕
6:36 - 6:41 is an amazing statement for me. Thank you
I Love your video & look forward to seeing your others. Right amount of info, instruction & encouragement. Way to gooooo!
Can’t believe I am only just now seeing this! Excellent job Jan! This tutorial was very helpful!
I love that trick. Never seen that before. Will help alot in alterations TY.
Hi, how are you doing?
You suggested a fabric stiffener but can we use spray starch instead? Really hope to hear from you. Thank you!
You're not supposed to use any kind of sprays or mists around the machine. It can damage it.
Perfect!! I have never known how to go over the seams. Your video helped me a LOT, THANKS!!!
Hi, how are you doing?
Can you please demonstrate how to do this for corners like hemming hankerchiefs etc. Thanks
Can you do this again but show how to sew in the round and over seams with the foot? I did my sleeves recently on a shirt (I shortened the sleeves) and I struggled so much and it looks like a disaster!!! Thanks so much for this video though!
Hi, how are you doing my friend
Loved your instructions. Once I watched your video I had my aha moment.
Wow, love those tricks!
Awesome!! Cant wait to try it so i can make napkins to match with my placemats and table runners!!
Thank you! Most tutorials only show how to start a rolled hem, but they don't show how you're supposed to finish it off. It feels very obvious now, but it certainly was not obvious to me.
I loved your video. I will practice!
I think you are fabulous: such a great personality and attitude
Great idea on the seams!
Hi, how are you doing my friend
I could have sworn I was blind-hem intolerant and after watching your video I got it on the second try!!!!!
From Mary Colwell.......Where are you responses and answers to the questions asked?
EXCELLENT! WHAT ADVICE FOR DOING A ROLLED HEM FOR A CIRCULAR SHAPE CUT OUT?
this was really hard, but your video made it easier!
big thank you! :D
Thank you! You are a great teacher!
Awesome! I agree wholeheartedly with Karen.... Thank you for your help!
Hi, how are you doing my friend?
Great video, thank you for making it! How do you turn the corner when using this on something like a napkin?
You're a genius!
Hi, how are you doing my friend
I love-love-love all your helpful videos but I’d save the black nails for Halloween... 👻🧛🏻♂️🦇
I wear black nails every month any day regardless of the time. If she wants black nails in spring, heck yeah!!!!! It’s her choice.
It may be her choice but it looks unattractive. Natural nails are always the best.@@ViwernWong
i enjoy your on lone tutorials . would like to know about your favorite machines
I’m going to replay video again. Can’t grasp how you’re explaining about where the seams join. Looks easy on a ‘flat’ piece of fabric, but in the real world hems are ‘round’. Please do a demo on starting and ending. Thanks for sharing!

You can sew one free line at rear around. That line will help you sew curved line. Please visit my clothing alterations channel. Thank you very much.
This is fantastic. I love it. But still having trouble with my old Kenmore. There are several sprays under the name Sullivan. Which is this? Thank you so much, you're fantastic!
This is really great, thanks so much .
Sullivan Spray. I need to find it!! Thanks for an easy-to-follow video!
I heard of using hairspray in those cases.
I can’t seem to find the Sullivan stabilizing spray online! It’s out of stock on every website! Does anyone know if it is still available somewhere?
Brilliant, explains what I’ve been doing wrong, thanks
Hello, how are you doing my friend
Wonderful tips!!! Thank you!!!!
Thank you! I can't wait to try it!
Hi Michelle
You are awesome! Thankyou!
You remind me of me! Hahaha I meant that as a complete compliment. Long time seamstress here. Love to share techniques. I will subscribe. Keep up the good work.
You are a genius.Thank you for sharing ...
just what I needed...thank you!
My english isn't too good, so am I right if I understood it like I should not sew over the "vertical" seem when i shorten clothes? Just leave like 0,5 cm open seem on each side to the vertical seem? :-)
There are several types of Sullivan spray. Do you use the Silicone Spray, or the fabric stabilizer spray.
Love you for this!
Omg!! My mom and I were just trying to use this foot last night and finally gave up!!! Going to go try again!!
Thank you for the tip.
I have a dress I need to do this to for a friend. Thanks so much.
Where did you get that shelf ( clear colored ) that is on your serger ?
Great technique, thank you to share, it works fine
Hi, how are you doing
This was awesome!! Thank you so much!!!
Hello, how are you doing?
How would you use a rolled hem foot for linen napkins?
Great tips, thanks
I just tried it and I want to scream. I guess I will look for Sullivan Spray. You make it look so easy and your fabric does what you want. I’m trying it on a tricot knit an it just wants to roll away from the foot.
Where to buy the Sullivan spray? Am I spelling it right?
I have rolled hem feet, nightmare, even using this trick! It's fine if your fabric is exactly straight, any miss measurement or if your heming on a curve (eg circle skirt) then all it does is twist the fabric
You can sew one free line first at rear to make it crook a little bit. Then use rolled foot. Please visit my clothing alterations channel. Thank you very much
Great refresher..Thank you.
I don't understand what you are saying about the seams--and you keep saying, "Do you see" without a close up. So no, we can't see.
Awesome 👍👍👍
Thank you, thank you!!!
Awesome, thank you for sharing.
what’s the spell for that fabric harder? solven???spray?
Sullivan
seen it on amazon
Was this demo so easy to do because you already had a stabilizing seam all the way down., with no raw edges? Would have been mice if the camera had been directed at the presser foot.
