    Rufus was the name of a group that she sang lead for. This song was produced by turkish atlantic records producer Arif Mardin. Rufus wasn't in it. (back of album cover).

      Oh he was Turkish?! His name was all over Chaka’s discography, his name popped up on some of Aretha’s albums also. I used to be all up in the credits back then 😂

      @@BrothaJ365The fact he was turkish doesn't mean he couldn't fully understand black american music culture. He actually did. He was just like Quincy Jones. Definitely 2 legendary monster 'do it all' music producers! Arif helped produce Dusty Springfield's american "Dusty In Memphis" album and "Son Of A Preacher Man" single. He produced Aretha Franklin albums in the 70's before starting producing Chaka Khan from late 70's up to late 80's. He then started working with Norah Jones on her first 2 albums before he die. She was the last big name in the music industry he worked with. But he also produced other people throughout the years like iconic British Pop band Scritti Politti.

      @martyemmons1859 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've been to three of Chaka Khan's concerts, and she has never performed "I Feel For You" at any of them (Thank God!). I don't think she likes that song, either. Not when there are much better songs to choose from.

      @@martyemmons1859She actually doesn't like that song that much. Like many acts of her generation she is an albums artist not a singles artist. For those who revere Whitney Houston alike artists, that only care about mass sales and charts, don't get how important/relevant her whole back catalog actually is. She deserves all the flowers she can get.

    Rufus isnt one person its a group.....this is a solo CLASSIC from 1981.....you said this has to one of her top hits.....not sure of that cause she had so many hits.....Chaka is in the Aretha Franklin, Patti Label, Gladys Knight catagory......one of the best female singers of all times PERIOD......great reaction

    • @melvinperry9393
      @melvinperry9393 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree with Jay..The 4 pillars of soul..Aretha, Patti, Gladys, and Chaka. The 4 powerful Soul singers that defined the Late 60s through mid 70s. Untouchable in their own elements

    • @martyemmons1859
      @martyemmons1859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, Chaka Khan has exceeded their; Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight, musical longevity. Based on the fact that Chaka Khan is still performing and recording music. She is still requested to perform at many events and sessions. Quincy Jones and Simply Red were happy to have Chaka sing "Everything Must Change" with them. She sang "Help Me" at Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday anniversary. There are bands like Fourplay (Lee Ritenour, Bob James, Nathan East and Harvey Mason) along with Philip Bailey and Phil Perry that were very happy to have her sing "Between The Sheets" with them. Chaka Khan was asked to sing "I'm Goin' Up Yonder" at Aretha Franklin's funeral service. She brought the WHOLE church to their feet with that performance! I'm not saying that Chaka Khan was better than Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight back years ago, I'm saying that Chaka Khan is better now than she (Chaka Khan) was back in the '70's, '80's and the '90's.

    My favorite song from her Epiphany CD is "Never Miss The Water", with "Everywhere" a close second. Just Jammin', you talk about Chaka Khan in the past tense. Make no mistake, Chaka Khan is not done yet! Not by a long shot. My favorite song; recently, by Chaka Khan is "Move Me No Mountain". I don't think you're familiar with her music in the 2000's and 2010's. She took it to another level on August 31, 2018 when she sang "I'm Goin' Up Yonder". The epic magnitude of her career is amazing.

    Hey Just Jammin', just a note, Rufus is not a person/producer, Rufus is the name of the band. The band had several personnel changes over the years, but consisted of during their formidable years: Tony Maiden (guitar/vocals), Bobby Watson (bass), Kevin Murphy (keyboards), Andre Fisher (drums) & later Dave "Hawk Walinski (keyboards) & John Robinson (drums) & of course Chaka on vocals. And they wrote most of their materal.

    See?!! I KNEW once you opened up that Rufus f. Chaka and Chaka Khan "catalog crate" more and more...that they, and especially "she," would continue to impress - if not blow you away, JJ! Let's go... continue... they've got much more!! This song (even though you reacted to it from "Epiphany: The Best of Chaka Khan, Vol. 1"), this was the lead single from Chaka's 3rd solo album by the same title, "WCGDFM" - released in 1981. The album reached #3 on the Billboard R&B charts. There are many other good songs from that album... I recommend "I Know You, I Live You," "Heed The Warning," and "And the Melody Lingers On (Night in Tunisia)"!

    Do Rufus & Chaka, "Tell Me Something Good" It is 🔥

  • @shamoriwall

    Rufus is the band not one person! the whole band is Rufus. “what you gonna do for me” was not a part of Rufus that was Chaka khan as a solo artist produced by Arif Mardin

    Ms Chaka “my colon is clean, I don’t give a sh*t!!!” Khan 🎶✅💽😜🤪

    Hamish Stewart of AWB wrote and recorded it first. Check out Average White Band. They killed the 70's early 80's

    oh yeah. I forgot to say this in my first comment. whatcha gonna do for me is a cover song. the original is by average white band. th-cam.com/video/yEiYZIV8-pU/w-d-xo.html. and I'll just say this the last thing any artist would want is for Chaka to cover their song.

    No Rufus here. The backing band on Chaka's first four solo albums is AWB (plus others). The top notch production is the legendary Arif Mardin. You gotta check out "I Know You, I Live You" from this album.

      I like Chaka Khan's Life Is A Dance: The Remix Project CD. "I Know You, I Live You" is the second track on that CD. My favorite from that CD is "This Is My Night".
