In the response u said ' list '. Shouldn't it be ' lift '
Apart from cracks, if the cement mix was not strong enough (weak) this could also cause the roof to leak?
Yes the deck will water soak because the concrete is not strong enough to keep the water from passing through

Wide enough that the water have no area to enter back the cracks

Normally i use thinset alone or mix with cement
Yes that works too i did a job once with the thinset and it failed but i know why the thinset wasn't good
