    It turned out that Sam Simon was the guy that Artie wrote about at the end of one of his books, who wanted to make a tv show about all of Artie’s troubles. Sam really seemed to have no problem with exploiting Artie’s story.

      @@larsivar8772 I'm sure he did, but Artie seemed pretty adamant about it. People were wondering for quite a while and had all sorts of theories about who Artie was speaking about, most think were surprised when it turned out to be Simon. Maybe not so surprised when you find out a little more about the guy. Simon may have justified it by saying it would help Artie.

    • @Refresh291
      @Refresh291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      lol I always got the impression Sam Simon wrote that as a way to make fun of Artie, cause Artie talks about thinking he heard Ralph laughing in background when Sam called him. I think Sam Simon wouldnt have a problem banging out a short script for the purpose of getting under Artie's skin. Artie's departure certainly left a hole in the show, so in a way I see it as Sam Simon 'getting back' at Artie for the trouble he caused to the show.

    • @marcspardello1254
      @marcspardello1254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have very little information about the goings on in these people's private lives. We are all fools trying to piece together bits of stories and then making blanket statements about the worthiness of who these people are. I read people going into the minds of people like Sam Simon and coming up with the inner workings of their psyche. They probably think they know more about Sam Simon than Simon himself or his psychologist.
      These are the same people who hate Howard Stern, since he did not stay stagnant as a human being over the decades. Are you the same person you were 25 years ago?

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure I heard Sam Simon admit it, its on the internet somewhere. But it was NOT about exploitation, not at all. In part it was to help Artie an make him some money. If you think entertainers are averse to making money off their own misfortunes let me introduce you to american comedy sometime. Artie clearly has problems, and money problems. Sam was crazy, but not sociopathic. A guy doesn't donate most of his money to saving animals, paying for free meals for the homeless and spending March in the frozen ocean around Newfoundland to try to save baby seals if you are sociopathic. I don't recall Howard, Artie or most celebrities doing that.
      All that talk about the boys club around standups is certainly true. Most of these people are pretty fucked up people emotionally, in fact most entertainers are. Go listen to Marc Marons podcast sometime and apart from Seinfeld its a big parade of people with issues with their parents, usually their fathers, but not always. Its good for us, we get entertained, but lets not pretend MOST of these people are 'normal'.

    3 packs 4 packs is bs nobody can smoke more than a pack

    • @Lamtitude
      @Lamtitude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People that have nothing to stop them from smoking can smoke a ton. Having an indoor job, money problems, or family members bitching about how much they’re smoking keeps a lot of smokers in check. Attell probably smoked so much because of boredom. Most comedians do nothing all day until they have to go on stage.

      Nah, I went to school for audio engineering years ago &, one of my professors, a brilliant man, smoked 2 packs a day.
      He was rail thin, stunk of smoke , frog like voice and walked like molasses.
      Also, one of the most brilliant people you'd ever meet.
