  • Long post! Story time!
I fell completely out with my pops around 2001. I chose to go to Uniben to go get a degree making my availability for his band rather sporadic. By this time I was struggling with my own personal difficulties as a young man. Anxiety became sleepless nights and self doubt, culminating in a near complete mental breakdown. I had been the main keyboardist for his Ulele power sound band in Benin for 7 years before all this. After I came back from the health scare, I felt like our relationship wasn’t Thesame again. Like I let him down and like he abandoned me. Safe to say I almost didn’t speak with him properly until 2011 when I left Nigeria for the US.
But how do you describe a father? I think a father gives you not only your life but also your very identity. While I may not have enjoyed a completely simple father son relationship, but I can truly say I did have a father, a man with brilliance and flaws like most men. So on this day. I join all the other grateful men in the world to appreciate my father. The one who gave me life and my identity! Happy Father’s Day in heaven Pops!
