    Definitely a good capture card - though with your VCR I'd have used S-Video out. I've tried the higher end Sony VCRs like that (believe you have an SLV-R1000 there), but the lack of line TBC in that VCR as there's often significant "tearing" or the upper part of the frame will all be shifted to one side a bit. You can actually see it in this video capture demoed in this video - the top maybe 1/10th of the picture is shifted to the left - pretty easy to see if you look at the small black bar on the left. It's fairly mild here, but can be worse depending on the tape. For some reason the high end Sonys seem to do that worse than any other brand and definitely worse than basic consumer VCRs, or that's been my experience anyway. Happy converting!

      I do not think that this has editing features on it. A simple program to purchase is from Wondershare Uniconverter. There is a free version but it doesn't do much. The purchased version will let you do simple editing and burn to DVD. It is actaully a pretty cool program. I use it all of the time.

      You may have to check your audio settings on your mac to make sure that the input is coming from your camera. Sometimes when I am using Audacity, I can't hear the output while it is playing so I go to the audio settings on the mac and uncheck the mute button then check it. The audio then seems to work after doing that.

    The test video you converted is 15 seconds long. File size is 34.4MB. As a result of these facts, an hour-long video would take up 8.256GB, which is a huge amount of space. Is there anything we can do with these facts?

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I convert video using my Mac in Final Cut Pro the file sizes are about 10 GB per hour so the OBS file size did not surprise me. On my Mac, I use Wondershare converter to drop the file size (and convert it to MP4) which is a lot more manageable and doesn't seem to compromise the quality. In OBS, you will want to play around with the capture settings to see what will give you a good quality video along with a reduced file size or, purchase Wondershare to reduce the size.

      Is the synch off while you are capturing or during playback. There could be a few issues. Computer speed, cheep capture devise (are you using the one I recommended or a cheaper one?), Audio setting that the tape was captured using. There are different audio settings besides the 48 that you may want to look into. Did you try a different tape? On my 8mm tape camera, I need to go to audio mode and make sure that it is at 16 bit not 12 bit. That throws my synch off with 8mm. Maybe your vcr has an audio function. That's all I got. Good luck!

      I don't know if OBS will recognize the copyright code that is typically on a VHS tape. There is a school of thought which is, "if you own a video, it is your right to copy it for personal use for viewing". I take this by meaning that you personally would have to do it. If you would bring the tape to a company like mine to transfer it, then there would be a fee for the service which would then break copyright law.
