Well I used to do power bfs way long before it's a trend. Used 100/70 sized reel on 10lb braid with 30-65lb leader on light to medium light setup. Man that thing crushes. Countless number of barramundi, mangroove jack, gt, queenfish, U named it. Power bfs is a real deal
@@redzuanhashim1193 it's more fun to use now since lot's of Chinese reels n Japan are entering the market. The Calcutta Conquest 31, Daiwa, Longze, Ifishband the list goes on forever. N it's cheaper
@@rawrfishing well right now my favourite local brand is Seahawk. My fav reel for power bfs is their Team Seahawk Xeon Mini. It's a popular brand here in Malaysia. Trust me it cast like rocket. U might wanna take a look at it
I appreciate the video. This just seems like finesse fishing, what we've been doing on the Gulf Coast, inshore, for a long time. L or ML rods and reels like the custom lite, alderberan, and other 30-50 size reels with 10-20 lb line.
Yes. Bait finesse... Is finesse fishing itself. But the different eras of the movement have helped companies create different tools that we can use to enjoy the style of fishing. I think we are moving away from the small and super shallow and going slightly deeper. But as I have indicated, Just not deep as 30/50 reels. So I am pretty excited!
lol, but controversy helps get people into conversations and i think the more people discuss this matter, we would get closer to getting an agreement of a fishing style. I know it is hard to define it since bait finesse was not just a style. It was a movement that evolved over 20 years or even more and each era had a different trending style.
This was a great info video for your community. It should answer a lot of questions or start conversations that will answer questions. Keep up the great work. But let's get the weather to cooperate so we can get out and fish. Be blessed. My friend.
thank you as always. I hope to see more and more people use bait finesse in 2025 and I hope by showing that Japanese are also using thicker PE for BF fishing like Americans are for Power BF Fishing. :) stay warm and hope we all catch some fish soon!
My experience has been the same Jimbo! Started out with the SLX BFS, thought I wanted to go lighter so I put A Roro spool on it, got an Aldebaran BFS, and a Tatula 80 with Gomexus spool. The SLX with the Roro spool made it that I had to control how hard I casted. I put the Aldebaran on an utralight rod and hated how little power it had for bass, so I ordered a light rod to put it on. I found that I used the Tatula 80 with Gomexus spool on a medium light rod the most. So I wanted something to fill the gap between BFS and my medium heavy setup..I was considering getting an alphas sv 800, but now for some reason the Calcutta shallow edition ended up in my cart…
Sweet! I was looking into that since I have been eyeing the Aldebaran MGL 30 for quite some time. But now there is a Conquest model? why not right? lol. Everyone loves round reels these days! But this spool here is certainly screaming Power BF. The capacity is more than the Steez and slightly more than the Alphas 800S as well. I think for my Power BF, it would be ML to M :)
Nice! Yeah the value of yen is slowly creeping up now. So things got a bit more expensive. Not sure if there will be any tarrifs for Japan, but hopefully not for Japan!
I'd like to talk further about this! Great video and very informative for those trying to learn. I feel more of the bass fishing that's being done in and outside of the tournaments or competitive level is what some call American BF and I can't argue it a bit!
I think American BF is basically PE BF fishing. Most of the folks are enjoying 15 to 20lb PE line on bf reels. Hope to see slightly deeper reels like this steez and the alphas sv tw800 and the Tsu hurricane he50!
@rawrfishing I currently own the TSU Hurricane as it was my first "bfs" reel before I knew what I was doing. The 800 has also recently made an appearance in my arsenal thanks to you and your advice. I'm stand with you on this being an evolution in bf or bfs fishing
@rawrfishing I would have to agree they are a bit deeper! It allows you to hold that bit of extra line for longer casts but is still versatile enough for those shorter normal BF pitches! Love the reel
Interesting content. Personally, I've been doing more "power BFS". I've spooled the DMK Silver Feather MIIEC EXA with .8 Gou PE on a light power rod. I've also added the Metanium DC 71 with 20lbs PE to cast heavier finesse lures or when fishing thicker cover. My .6 gou setups are now reserved for trout and other panfish. I agree Power BF will gain more traction in the US
Thx! Power BF is definitely where most Americans would want it! I wouldn't say 0.8 gou is quite at power finesse. It's still fragile enough if a wrong Hookset can snap the PE line or at the connection with the leader. But I agree for UL 0.4 to 0.6 for My UL. And I use 0.8 for my traditional BF level... But I think if I'm bass fishing this year... Going to swap to fluoro. I wanna explore the "tradition bass BF fishing" :)
LOL same here. I don't need spinning setups to reach pan fish in my waters. even when fishing the banks. they are usually littered in the shallows all year long.
Cool topic. What I use for my so called power BFS is the Daiwa Silverwolf with a SLP G1 1012 SV boost spool. And The Daiwa Salamandura SV 70 for small cranks 3/16 to 3/8 oz
Nice video and thanks for your insights! have been considering the TW800S for heavier setups as well - Daiwa's pricing on the higher end is pretty insane these days, lol. (And for those of you who already own a Daiwa Alphas Air TW or its variants with a 28mm spool: the Ray's Studio long cast spool holds 200m/pe1.0 or 150m/pe 1.2 and it's quite sturdy. I can cast a 1/4 oz Kastmaster about 50 yards on my 7'6" Tsurinoya SAC762S with it, so it should fit the bill for PE BF fishing if you don't have the funds to invest in a dedicated reel)
you are welcome! it's been my goal to grow this niche and I think it's time to change it up a bit. I have always promoted bait finesse as a tool and on the UL side. But this year, Im going to take a step back and show how these bait finesse "tools" are used specifically in Japan so that we can all explore their style of fishing together! Sweet, Long Casts spools are considered "Versatile finesse" because people would use it for many things such as... long cast or some level of bait finesse. But i still think you would do better with a larger spool for larger lures. You can get the longer casting distance ;) but should be fine for close quarter fishing!
What you said about tariffs makes sense. It may be unrelated, but I noticed that the Silver Creek, Gekkabijin, and SS Air all increased by around $100 on Amazon pretty much overnight. All three come directly from Japan. I have no clue if politics have anything to do with it, but fishing could become an expensive hobby in the future. Who knows?
@ I’m hoping it’s just an anomaly. I was kind of interested in the Silver Creek at $240, but at $350, not so much. Maybe the yen is doing better or it’s an Amazon thing. They had an older model Steez for a bit over $300 that’s now going for around $550. That was the deal of the century!
I have been power bf for over 20 years now . I have 3 bps pro finnesse lite baitcasters. One is on a 7ft 6in ml bps popping rod that i use for back bay and throwing 1/8 to 1/4 oz finnesse jigs ,spinnerbait and flukes

But give that rod a try with the alphas sv tw800s!
I use a Dobyns Kaden 610-4CB with a Metanium 70 size spooled with 10lb Yo Zuri Hybrid. For anything 7 grams to 21 grams. Works great for ned rigs, wacky rig, neko rig, and shaky heads.
nice! I would like to see some shallower spools for size 70 reels for PE BF Fishing. I feel that they are still too deep for the thinner PE lines, but I can definitely see folks using it for the heavier lures. I think the PE BF fishing ranges will be around 3.5-14g range. I think if they do that, you can narrow down your lure weight range and it would be more fine tuned for specific lures/techniques. but then again, you would also need another setup for the heavier lures lol. I don't throw that heavy for my finesse applications, but the Japanese 70 reels are pretty versatile for that!
@rawrfishing That's interesting, it's basically what most Americans consider BFS to be. Those new Abu BFS rods are rated for 1/8th oz to 1/2 oz. Most of Shimano BFS rods are in that range too. That's a Curado BFS reels wheelhouse too.
As i have described, the bait finesse movement spanned over a long period of time and there were eras where specific tackle were more popular. but long story short, Bait finesse is a wide range and it really depends on your tackle. Abu's reel is certainly for Power Bait Finesse side where as the Alphas Air TW is the UL BF side. Totally opposite spectrum. and btw, when i mentioned the early generation of bait finesse was 8-12 lbs, i messed up.. the 12lbs i was thinking american 12 lbs, it's really 14 lbs :P

I’ve been using 10lb power pro on most of my bait finesse reels How much wear and tear would that do on my reels? I’ve always been curious if thats too heavy for the light spools
nice, I don't think that there are much wear since the drag are usually pretty low and you are likely not setting max drag. This is why most reels uses Aviation Aluminum as you don't need super strong forged brass gears and with the that said, the weight of the reel is reduced! if you are using PE, i don't think it would be that bad for light thin spools, given that you don't break off snags with the spool directly. Always wrap your PE line over say a dowel and then break the lure off. Mono/Fluoro would the one that damages spools as they stretch and get locked in and slowly deform the spool.
