Being beheaded or hanged was an easy way to be put to death back then. Drawn, quartered, and hang is unimageable. Pure torture. Got a new subscriber. Was interesting to watch. Great video
Interesting thing about Margaret Clitherow’s death was that the accused had to enter a plea when brought before the court to be tried. However, those who were rich enough to own property knew that if they were caught red handed and would undoubtedly be found guilty by the jury, their estate would be forfeit by the Crown, thus depriving their descendants of their inheritance. Those who could weather the ordeal of this barbaric punishment without succumbing to the excruciating pain, ultimately sacrificed their lives so that their children would not be left homeless. Wikipedia contributors mention that she did it so that her children would not be subjected to torture. This is also plausible. However, David Starkey is an expert on Tudor history and covered this ordeal in great detail, so I recommend watching his video if you enjoy learning about this era.
Thanks for including the miss at 6:48 , it makes it feel i am listening to someone speaking to me rather than some kind of robot reading up from a script.
You failed to mention the Turks. The Ottomans used impalement so frequently it was their most famous method of execution and Vlad the Impaler learned it from his time in captivity from them. It’s estimated the Ottomans impaled over 2.5 million victims over the course of the Ottoman Empire
Some techniques were handed down over the centuries. Some were suggested by some popes. Some were local inventions like Zwingli(reformer leader) drowning Anabaptists because they didn't believe in infant baptism. Sometimes he had them tossed into the river. Other times the "heretic" would be tied to a long pole then dipped repeatedly into the river like a see-saw.
@David Smith Oh yeh, that is correct. Plenty of ancient material about what happened to enemies or problem people. Crucifixion was borrowed from Persia. People's imaginations were the only limits to the cruelty they performed on others.

According to Lady Antonia Fraser,Mary Queen Of Scots was hit by the ax but didn't die right away. The executioner had to take a second swing which hit her vertically partly on the top back of her head.He then had to saw through her to get the ax out.But it left a big vein or piece of sinew. The third swing was to chop through the sinew to separate her head from her body. The last insult to injury was he was supposed to pick up her head and show it to the onlookers so they would know she was dead. But wearing a wig her head dropped on the ground. I'm surprised women did not faint.
Another execution method that was practiced in The Tower of London was "A Dark And Close Place". The prisoner was placed into a tight enclosure below the level of the floor, and a huge stone block was placed over him. The enclosure has an open drain to the Thames. As the level of the Thames rose with the tide, rats would climb up the drain - and feast upon the unfortunate prisoner.

The Romanians were being invaded by the Mores, and many died in battle.. They asked for help from the rest of the Christian countries around the borders and were ignored, So the bodies were put on the spikes for the Mores to see and the closer they got to the city, the more bodies they would see impaled on the spike and the ones closest to the city were Mores.. so many should have seen their friends impaled there.. scare tactics work well eh? .. That information I got from a movie I saw on youtube a few years ago made by the Romanians themselves... They also said that Vlad himself was Swedish royal descent, so part of my family

Looks like the tory front bench
So that's what people did for entertainment in those days. They would have used wild animals as the Romans did, but PETA stopped that. You didn't cover the part where the convicted would pay the executioner to ensure that he got it right the first time.
What about the blood eagle you missed that one out

6:45 King Charles III is a descendant of “Vlad the Impaler”
Got to laugh a bit.. 60 in a row beheaded by axe in Viking tomesnoting new there really One of them asked the axeman to hold his beard out of the way of the axe... Waited and at the last moment, pulled his head back out of the way, and the axeman chopped his hands off,,, he got it right second time around though. wonder if you got got the killing of King Edmond if they used for target practice in archery... fella looked la porcupine after that one (The Malmsmary wine one is in the book King Henry the 8th and all that stuff... great to help you learn if your going to take the history exams for A level or higher ed) Not so sure about the the Impaler history you got wrong though...
