I’m the same age as Phil Anselmo & been a fan of his music since the early 90’s. To those who are surprised to see him doing this style of music it’s not that out of character, regardless of what he’s previously done. As us men get older we mellow, we mature, we expand on our experiences & after a life time of providing for our loved ones we develop a new perspective. A more broad perspective more accepting & tolerant & far more willing to experience new things as we see the end of our lives approaching like our fathers did before us & like our children will soon see for themselves. Time goes by too fast, life is too short & this world becomes a far stranger & more confusing place but we tend to sit back & watch it all unfold so we might as well enjoy this short time we have left before we go back to the dust from which we came.
Phil fascinates me. Even with all the darkness he seems to surround himself with and with what he has been through in his life, and the addictions, struggles, what he has sang about, I find a lot of light and hope in him. Perhaps this is what has given him the strength to continue in his life. There is almost something Biblical about him in the sense he represents and has lived through and with, the struggle and battle between opposing forces. He seems to always come through. I love most of the music he has been involved with, especially Pantera and Down and now this. Brilliant!
Couldn't agree more. I'm so happy that he's survived this far, to bless us with his wisdom and age. I often imagine what kind of music others would have made later in their career.. Kurt Cobain, Jeff Buckley, to name a couple. To see Phil at this point in his life is a blessing.
