SEWING FIX: Upgrade Ironing Board with Extra Padding // Satisfying Scissor Sounds with Music

  • If your ironing board cover has ever gotten heat stains in the pattern of the mesh base of the ironing board skeleton this is a signal that you need more padding underneath your ironing board cover. Adding padding to your ironing board can be done in two ways. One is to make or buy a new ironing board cover that has more padding or the much easier second option is to just cut out several layers of cotton batting to fit your ironing board and layer them under the ironing board cover you already have. One important factor to keep in mind with adding padding is to make sure each layer of batting is successively larger than the last so that you get a nice rounded edge on your board. Before I added this padding I would get weird divots in anything I pressed near the edge of the board, but now with the extra cushion on my ironing board, I have maximized the area averrable for ironing. Now that I have more robust padding, ironing and pressing are way easier, especially when using steam. Also because there are more heat-absorbing layers between the iron and the metal base of the ironing board it no longer heats up as much and is overall safer.
Also, I hope you enjoy the cutting ASMR. I know I did when I was cutting this out. There is something so satisfying about the sound of scissors cutting through thicker material. I couldn’t find my new fabric scissors for this project so I had to use my old ones that were my grandmother's and have a nick in the blade that makes it challenging to cut in long strokes.

First of all, you're absolutely right. The sound of scissors cutting is somehow soothing and reassuring for me. It takes me away from the pressures in my life. Thank you for sharing this video, and the tips you include. I was looking to make a padded ironing board cover. The one I have has gone quite stiff and had in the spot where I obviously do most of my ironing. Even when it's wzshed it remains stiff. This suggests to me that it must be a polyester material that has melted and fused but I can't see because there is a fabric backing. I think the simpler option is to make a couple of covers and update the separate padding using a wool or cotton batting using your tips. Best wishes, 🇦🇺💖🌹

Thank you! Just what I was looking for. My husband was super sweet in getting me an ironing board, but got me one that slopes down, making pressing a bit more of a challenge. I think this will fix it nicely.

Thanks so much for this; I just searched to do exactly what you've done here with wool batting I have; I so appreciate that lovely music, just the right volume and gently scissor sounds, haha. Subscribed.

Thank you for the idea. Would you please provide either a link or the exact name and inches of the cotton batting you used. I don't want to get it wrong.

Any 100% cotton batting will do. I got mine from a local store so I don’t have a link. Depending on how large your ironing board is will inform what size piece you want to get. Try to get enough for three layers with at least three or four inches on the sides.

3 layers in addition to the original padding. I probably only needed two but I had the extra so I used it.

    No piano music, next time!!!
I wanted to press out the wrinkles in the batting... haha 😄
And.... Cut a new cover out of decorator weight fabric & attached the original edging with the elastic!

Well, I intend to make a new cover eventually but for now the functionality of the extra padding is what I was after.
