Yes you can. You need to be able to trigger the different interactions with your buddy until it gains 33 emotional points and at that point it will be excited. feeding +2 points playing +2 points snapshot +2 points route +2 points walking +2 points battling leader +2 points battling rocket balloon +2 points new pokestop +2 points etc etc. Each category has a 30minute cooldown until it can be triggered to gain another +2 points until you hit the amount needed for it to be excited. Total points decay at -1 point every 25 minutes.

I think for Zacian’s Raid I used any Poison and Steel types to defeat it and maybe a Shiny Cyan Wolf.
