I absolutely despise how they destroyed character movesets and split it up recently. I much preferred just having the full list from the get-go and finding things out from there.

@@magicmanscott40k Back in UMK3 there was a mechanic implemented to prevent draw games because the game would supposedly crash and you can find this yourself as most players in the MK community who are old af know this. If two players were sindel for example and kept trading scream shots until the very end you can determine which player the game determined who was automatically plus and who was minus. I have played UMK3 for literally 20 years and still play to this day the sources are easily verifiable and can be recreated.

Morpheus He used HELLA tentacle strike, especially when the meter burn was a full combo launcher. Black Adam got insane f12 combo starter which had ridiculous damage prepatch, so even Dragon couldn’t simply just through out zoning shit all day

I like these type of videos. This is coming from a person who played MK9 for like 3 weeks and only in single player so I don't remember anything. Now I'm addicted to MK11 and I'm interested how the things worked back in the day, when NRS released they first truly competetive fighting game.
Osk Luz you described me to a tee haha. Been a huge MK fan since I was a kid, MK9 was my first MK game where I actually knew what I was doing but my internet was nowhere near fast enough for online play (I’m talking 10 Mbps) so it was story mode and that’s it. These videos are so good
Yeah I played MK9 until I unlocked everything or almost everything (don't remember) in the crypt and then I stopped playing. My internet was also pretty terrible and on top of that I've heard that the netcode in that game was pretty bad. Once I unlocked stuff in the crypt I had no motivation to play the sp modes so I ended up selling the game lol.
The Spreer for me you’d have to be at least PS2 Era to be remastered 15-20 years maybe a little less but 9-10 years is not enough especially since It came out towards end of the Xbox 360 and PS3s Lifecycle

erron black's scud shot in mk11 is up there too in my opinion... the only thing it lacks is the cancel and the meter build (but meter isnt built by using moves in mk11 anyway lol)... but its a held stance that destroys damn near every projectile that comes his way and it does a super fast mid punish/kounter when meter burned which keeps the opponent guessing the entire time they try to zone you out which is pretty funny, because most scrubs and noobs will actually try to choose a heavy zoning character the moment they see you pick erron black thinking he wont be able to cope with their zoning... which of course totally backfires (pun intended) on them once the scud shot comes out
My favorite part is that he didn’t even cover what happens if smoke touches you when he has 3 bars of meter. 😈 Bye bye life bar, guaranteed reset city. 100% combo time. Loving this videos REO, this game was really something special despite its wackiness, comp meta and 5 tournament viable character.
To be fair, the timing on that reset was actually pretty tight and it only worked if you had the correct spacing. Waffles was the only Smoke player I ever saw consistently do it.
Given the fact some projectiles in MK are unreactable (less then 15 frames). Having a 1 frame startup counter is completely acceptable to me. NRS games give incredibly strong zoning tools to a ton of characters. And rarely add equally strong counters.
The difference is projectiles are the very least duckable and jumpable. Smoke's shake didn't just parry projectiles, the EX could parry normals as well. Combined with him cancelling it trying to hit him at all was like playing fucking minesweeper.

@@thamostgangsta12 Smoke was literally one of the better characters in the game. The only thing that made him not get picked very often is the top tiers tended to be very bad matchups for him. But that was just the nature of MK9, just because nobody had an answer for the Top 3 characters does not mean they were bad. Smoke had unblockable resets which lead to well over 60% damage with literally just 1 bar, meter was a joke to him because he built it very well, as the video points out you cannot even throw a single projectile against him, has very strong AA game, and on top of all that has a retardedly fast and safe overhead depending on whether you commit or not.
Going from this to now. I respect those who actually enjoy MK11, but this is a video game, it’s hard to believe how older games have more depth, creativity, exploration, etc than games these days
People would complain the combos are to hard to do and how unbalacned moves are, so in 11 they tried to make combos easier and moves be much more "fair", unless its upgraded Jacquie
My first main. MK9 smoke is still my favorite character to have ever played. NRS please rerelease this game for the next gen consoles. It was so fucking good.
MK 9 is the only MK i was used to be unbeatable using random select. Tag Team of course. 1v1 was boring. Even if Tag Team was broken and ppl tried to exploit it, there was always a second round to avoid and turn around the favor.
Man, this brings back memories of Reo vs xSmokex, one of the most hype sets ever. Also, important to note that Smoke's shake move makes him taller so the instant air projectiles will get punished by it too. This game was so good. Mkx and Mk11 just don't feel the same.
The best zoner in NRS History is vanila Cyborg Injustice 1. Instant air MID projectile with 0 recovery. It was literally a FULL SCREEN BLOCK INFINITE for like 29 characters, while dealing chip damage.

I love how Smoke is designed. Smoke is not just a character with very unique animations, but he stops ZONING. You know, high level spamming? Instead of your opponent sitting in the corner taking absolutely no risks while making the match very boring, you now have a million ways to punish it HARD with Smoke. The Zoner has always been the character who gets bodied when losing and wins in the corner of the screen. Now, we have Smoke. The biggest f*** you to the lamest play style! Now all we need are Rushdown Anti-Grapplers.

There's a reason why people will always love this MK9 the most and that's because everyone was busted in this game lol not saying that's a bad thing. It is what made the game so much fun. If MK11 would let custom variations rock, I think the same would happen. If that happens tho, I hope they reduce damage across the board tho.

Nothing worse than Injustice scorpion DLC smh. Teleport was beyond broken. I was top 100 and literally had to quit until they fixed it
I would honestly prefer a roster of broken characters over one with bland characters that can't do anything crazy and exciting.

I loved Smoke in MK9 and in especially that costume.
Man imagine NRS remastered this game to MK11's graphics, with NO gameplay changes, and upgraded Netcode. That would be INSANE!

That's kind of misleading because the startup frames don't account for the frames the projectiles need to travel across the screen

dont forget if he did the ex parry he could parry normal and specials as well
And the smoke bomb resets were a whole nother headache for people who like touching the ground.
This series is a lot of fun.

There's a reason why people will always love this MK9 the most and that's because everyone was busted in this game lol not saying that's a bad thing. It is what made the game so much fun. If MK11 would let custom variations rock, I think the same would happen. If that happens tho, I hope they reduce damage across the board tho.

It means it comes out on frame one. Theres no (punishable/interruptable) animation leading in to the move. Its active soon as you hit the button.
It’s not uncommon, kolin in SFV has one frame parries to. All versions & can be ex
it's not an attack. it's a parry
To be fair it's not an attack. That just means you have to stop throwing projectiles.
It equalls to 0,0333... seconds, there can still be faster frames from it.
