Legitimately, my favorite part of this episode is Buggy laughing and saying "Surprise, shithead!". His delivery of that line is GOLD. It's so out of left field, I had to pause because I was wheezing with laughter.
Apparently some people are so used to the current Buggy in the manga being a comedic relief that they've genuinely forgotten that in Buggy's first appearance in the anime/manga he was scary and threatening. That's exactly what happened here, in Episode 2 he's a psycho clown but in the next few eps of the show he's already a comic relief next to villains like Arlong. So yes, he's perfect in Live Action
In the first episode it all looked a bit ridiculous, but somehow it just started to look right in the second episode. I just think I had to get used to it, but I am so happy they are sticking so true to the source material. Changes are a given with a huge show like One Piece, but after 2 episodes I am definitely very pleased with it. Buggy is freaking perfect! All the main players are great imo.
crazy twist. the writers did such an amazing job with the villagers as hostages + luffy being tortured in sea water (instead of just locked up inside a cell) as parallel to his drowning when he was a kid.
the biggest thing i think they did right with this IS the casting, luffy has perfect anime protagonist energy without being goofy, zoro is super cool but still has deep character building moments and goofy gafs, nami is a character i know relatively little about in the anime as ive watched maybe 5 episodes, but i really like the actress they chose for her
Chained!? Why would Great Captain Buggy would do that!? They should be grateful that the legendary Captain Buggy D. Clown allowed them to basked in his majesty! It was a privilege more than taking an audience with Big Mom or Gorosei! This is definitely not sarcasm!
Would have been even more badass if Shanks didn't bother looking back at Lucky Roux after doing the finger gun. xD Like the whole "cool guys don't look at explosions" thing.

I gotta say they clearly took some inspiration from Raiden vs Monsoon fight from Metal Gear Rising. xD In making Buggy powers. In first One Piece episodes Buggy didn't use that match potential of his powers, as his powers simply were made for comedic effect or some simple moves. Here we could actually forming massive tornado from his body parts or avoiding getting sliced by switching part of his body. Exactly same way Monsoon did xD

I agree acting comes off cringe . But that’s because it’s so hard to adapt a cartoons mannerisms into real life . Also the script the actors were given were part to blame . Not to mention the director rushed some scenes and didn’t let some scenes have the effect they were supposed to . Overall tho as far as live actions goes this is alright. It’s not terrible and it’s not great . It’s definitely not trash tho and worth watching
Buggy was a scary pirate in Orange Town who was going to shoot Luffy and point blank range with a Cannon. He didn’t become a joke until after Orange Town. This is spot on for his first appearance
He was annoying in his first appearance, he was never funny! In the East Blue, his crew was known as a menace. It only got funny when he lost most of his body parts left with only his head, hands, and feet then Oda decided to give him an adventure and then fans started to get warming up to him and fell inlove with him at Impel Dawn.
