      Hi again Ray ..delighted you enjoyed it ..Im also sorry to read some of your circumstances you mentioned in other comments. Our health is all important ..the secret is making the most of things ..and I happy to read that is exactly what you are doing. Have a great new year :-D

      @@donnywilcox Thanks for your kind words, the new year has started off on a confusion for as quick as they said I was POSITIVE now they are saying the scan is NEGATIVE lol which one do you believe ? Lol. Things like that Donny I seriously don’t let bother me but I know it’s very upsetting to my daughter so I have to be careful what I say around her because I am NEVER serious, well except for the cremation I’ve told to throw the ASHES down her toilet so every time she goes the Loo she will think of me. I happen to think that’s HYSTERICAL and I really want it doing, but she is adamant that I will be DEAD and will have no say in the matter lol. I hope your doing fine and with a bit of luck end of FEB early MARCH you may be able to get out. I was planning to get to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 around that time to but having so many weeks off work I can’t afford the new engine I want so more like May now as in April I want to do the Jurassic coast and circumnavigate the isle of wight .

    Your solution for the achor rope due to the existance of the canopy is the same that I use once I always have a canopy mounted on my F-RIB 360. I feel so proud of myself for having had the same idea that you had, Donny boy 😊

      Thanks again SNEVIC ..yup..its the best way to anchor a boat with a Canopy.. I have seen folks scrabbling over the front trying to tie on as they didnt know this method . Happy new year :-D

    Well worth the wait for this video Donny, There's no end to your talents Very interesting and a professional job well done. The electrical work, Cupboard and everything else is so well thought out. The metal corroding was a very interesting topic which I don't know much about but need to find out. Been pricing up the Quicksilver Alu Hull 380. Really enjoyed watching. Thanks Steve 👍.

      Its a great boat Steve and I would get another if anything happened. What sold it for me was the fact its short shapt so my old SIB outboard fitted it :-D

      Thanks Donny. See how things go with my new job in Oban in March before I get one. That corrosion issue- if I had my painter connected to the alu Hull with a metal carabiner would it course corrosion. Thanks Steve 👍

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just tie mine to the hull. Law of physics is the "higher" metal sacrifices electrons to the "lower" metal. Its why the put anodes on the outboards..they corrode saving the outboard. I have load of scores in the hull paintwork..but they dont seem to rust away

    I bought a new Inmar inflatable with an aluminum floor and a 20 horsepower Mercury for under $4000 5 years ago, use it on the ocean in Alaska, it's tough and very economical, very good value.

    Very cool, that really works well what you have done.
    Did you notice any difference in thickness of hull pvc between the two boats?
    I own the older Mercury 430 HD, and I'm amazed at how thick the pvc is, very rugged.

    Another great video, Donny. I love the technical side of things too, and i do love repurposing old kit so this really speaks my language. Good job! By the way what is that ‘water separator’ you speak of? What’s it’s purpose? I’m a newbie so it’s just another thing for me to learn. Thanks again, safe boating 👍

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Captain.. condensation or even water drops from the inlet valve can collect in fuel tanks. If its drawn down towards the outboard ..it sinks to the bottom of the water separator where its easy to draw off by opening the valve. Therefore it doesn't reach the outboard. Well worth it in a small boat especially as the newer outboards dont have carbs which are relatively easy to clean compared to EFI engines :-D

    Thank you for yet another enjoyable video. What fixed compass have you found that works?

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi again Roger .. the boat is well tucked up for winter so cant check the brand. Its around 12 years old and no issues. I have quite a few compasses for hillwalking etc. Sylvo is a good brand and suspect its one too. I have never had a problem with any but you have to be aware they can reverse if subjected to magnetic fields ..or point towards metal objects if too close. A boat compass is revered compared to a land compass by design. Have you had issues with your compass ?

    • @rogerschofield3324
      @rogerschofield3324 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donnywilcox I have a new highfield which has not got wet yet due to ILL health etc . I have used a eye sight compass previously and thought maybe it was time for a fixed version .As they are not cheap I thought I would ask first .Thank you

    Donny, sorry to bother you with this question, the sea handling of your Rib is it a big difference from your old SIB ? as I'm considering going to purchase the same boat you own from my current Sib which is OK.. but is slams down after going over waves.
    Cheers Terry

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi terence ..if you follow my videos you will appreciate I got to remote far flung places off the West of Scotland. If Im honest..I dont go anywhere in the Alu RIB that I didnt got to in the same size SIB. I dont go in rougher seas either.. nor do I feel safer in the RIB than in the SIB. Worth considering ? However if you have the money the RIB has some benefits. Biggest benefit for me is how easy it is to launch and recover compared to the SIB. Rollers on the trailer instead of bunks make that difference. Yes its marginally faster and I can keep my speed up in certain waves a bit more than I could with the SIB but still have to go displacement speed when the waves are big. Its not major differences .. its minor differences which all help with comfort. I would happily replace the RIB with a SIB of same size again ..or vice versa ..depending how much money I had at the time. That is only my opinion though..but after a few years of using both.

      Donny, thanks for your reply, I've watch about 90% of your films which are great to watch and educational. I resistantly went out of a big 5.2 rib with a deep v Hull in much bigger waves than I've come across using my 4 meter sib , I was considering buying a rib like yours even though Hull is not as deep as 5.2 m one I used for about 4 hours . It stuck me how easy it was to recover from sea with 2 people and agree a Sib can be a lot harder , You have answered the key points for me in regards your happy to use both sib or rib , I'm happy with my honwave T40 it's a staple SIB . But before laying out extra cash for a Rib I was wondering weather its worth the much extra cost , I think I'll keep it for now . Many thanks for helping me out in making my mind up. On a side note I found sitting inside the boat ie on the floor in big seas more relaxing than sitting on the seat. Your much braver than me using your seat , many thanks Donny for your help. Take care 🙂
