Oh wow...I would have just turned 5 yrs old Christmas of 88. Almost makes me cry...reminds me of riding in the car with my mama and daddy and seeing the sights. Take me back...just for a day or two!
Wish to the good Lord above we could go back to these simpler days!!! When McDonalds was the fast food you got when your family was on the go and wasnt ALWAYS dinning together sharing time. The restaurants you ate in were Gatlinburg originals and not these chain bars that line the strip. Lemon Tree antiques for Cabbage Patch Kids. The Acorn Annex for your knife and civil war replicas and Japanese fans??? Now everything is like a little Vegas strip! I mean how many smokey mountain moonshine houses do you need on ONE BLOCK. "Little ole Gatlinburg" is a thing of the past! GREAT GREAT Video! Takes u back
I use to go there every year with my mother, grandmother and father. Now only mother left and this was such a treat to show her. We haven’t been since the late 90’s. Thinking about going again, it’s changed so much. Wish it was like it use to be! Thanks for your video. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I also went in the late 80's with my mother, was the best vacation of my life. Unfortunately the love of money took over Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Today it's unrecognizable. Remember Christus Gardens? It was demolished this year, for condos, what a shame.
The good ole days. At least 90% of those businesses are gone now. And being "crowded" then was nothing compared to what it's like now. Too bad it wasn't sunny then, or the video quality would be better. Video camera technology then needed more light.
They've managed to turn into a low-cost carnival. We honeymooned there in 1983, so long ago. I will always have a soft spot for it, but doubt I can stand the stench again anytime soon.

Yeah, Went there in the late 80's and have fond memories. I wouldn't go there now, it's not the same laid back little town.
That is so cool. Reminds me going with my grandparents. Thank you
Switek exactly! Tears with this video but good tears of memories.
Brings back good memories for sure. Notice all the gas stations in town and where Howards used to be. Love this stuff
Good to see gatlinburg, Fontana, and the smokies road in the 80's. would like to see pigeon forge in the 70's especially where porpoise island was.
Thanks for sharing, nice gem down memory lane.

Have been across that mountain more times than I can remember. And who can forget the smell of hot breaks?
It’s packed there year round now. Still enjoy going tho thanks for the video.
Who originally made this video? I make daily Vlogs here in Gatlinburg and love this! I'd love to share this
Thank you for posting this.
Loved hearing that 70's music while you were driving. Was it a cassette cause when I'm there I have on reception. Love the views from 1988
Really great video!

Man we made some crappy cars in the 80's.
