The eagles are my entire childhood. They were always playing on the stereo system in our bar downstairs when I was a kid. You got to check out some of their live stuff from the hell freezes over album.
The “girl” as you put it, is actually a metaphor for “fame”. You gotta remember the Eagles are from Southern California, LA/Hollywood. Entertainer’s, whether they are actors, actresses, singers, etc…are treated as big celebrities when they’re on top…but when a new sensation hits it big, it’s embraced by “fame” and the old sensation is kicked to the curb…”they’ll never forget you till someone new comes along”…
The Eagles Greatest Hits is the #1 selling album of all time back and forth with Thriller, Hotel California is always in the top 10. I used to see Glenn Frey at Wilshire Car Wash and a mom and pop pizza place on Wilshire regularly. Really nice, we'd just make small talk about this and that, not music so much. I just talked to him about the Eagles the first time we talked waiting for our cars, I know their whole catalog and have seen them live. He was always by himself except once he was with his kids and he introduced me and I talked to his kids a little. This was back around 2007, 2008 in Santa Monica. Everyone in highschool had Hotel California and Rumours albums. Great music, one of my favorite bands, even all their deep cuts. Love their solo stuff too, especially Henley and Walsh. Walsh is someone you need to explore solo and with the James Gang, he's a guitar genius and composer.
As far as this later stuff goes, I bet you would really love their song, Life in the Fast Lane. That Joe Walsh riff at the beginning is killer and the words are fantastic and it's just a solid rocking song. It's funny because I was a solid Eagles fan as a kid and I bought their albums as they came out, including their iconic greatest hits album, with the cow skull against a blue background on it, and then for a birthday present I got the corresponding songbook with the sheet music in it for the songs. But I remember I bought this album when it came out and I liked it, but I remember thinking that this song was kind of boring, lol, and it was on the radio all the time, but then again I was in junior high and into a lot of harder rock and the more up-tempo Eagles songs. But listening to it now decades later, and as a musician and a composer and all that, I really do appreciate it. It's a great song. These reactions can be really interesting in that way!
The 4 times I saw the Eagles Live their harmonies were ALWAYS spot on. You could have been listening to the studio version. Not many bands are able to pull that off live. In my life, the Eagles and The Moody Blues pulled that trait off best!
Always had a particular appreciation for the portions of the song in which Don Henley duets with Glenn Frey - Henley was/is just excellent at harmonizing with almost anyone, but it's amazing how strong their harmonizing could be within the Eagles themselves. P.S. IIRC this was the first single off Hotel California.
The Eagles were at a crossroads prior to this album. The dilemma: Move towards the softer country rock - which was where they seemed to be heading - or go for the harder sound. The addition of Joe Walsh settled that question once and for all.
Great analysis - I had never really thought about it like that 😉 Another great Eagle song is "The Sad Café" from their follow up album "The Long Run". And of course the very beautiful last song on the HC album: "The Last Resort".
First song from the new album I heard on the radio. God, I was so young then! This is much more "old Eagles" than the more rocking tunes or the title track. We all loved it of course!
I grew up with this band, cuz well i will be 64 years old in a few weeks. But, i appreciate your perspective on the song and its implications and interpretation, depending who is listening to it, and or what message the band is trying to send . Well done !
I must tell you! Growing up in the 70's I KNEW who the Eagles were!! In my family, we listened to every kind of music. However, whenever the Eagles came on the radio. I just HAD to sit by the radio and listen to them!! If you haven't yet! Please react to 'Take It To The Limit' live in 1977, the bass player Randy Meisner is singing!! AND it's my all time favorite song from the Eagles!!
I am always surprised by how much I love this song and how it grows on me with every hearing. This is a beautifully complicated country song with subtle transitions and accelerations ...and those amazing harmonies. Great concept and lyrics too.
This is a song for every new, aspiring act/talent and the way Hollywood treats you and is always looking for the next big thing. They were the new kid in town at one time. But this song can apply to anyone who moves to a new area and people clamor to meet what is fresh and new,' till you are not. Anyhow, great song, great lyrics. But hey, its the Eagles.
Growing up in the 70’s with all the great music of the time, I never thought about different interpretations. We just partied to the music! It’s interesting to hear your interpretations now and gives me even more appreciation of some of the greatest musicians of all time.
I suggest listening to the album Hotel California start to finish. The Last Resort, which is the last song (if I recall correctly) is always ignored but is a perfect song.
Another stellar songwriting collaboration between Henley, Frey and the incomparable J. D. Souther! Check out his song Faithless Love, which was covered by Linda Rondstat and Silver Blue. Both songs were on his album Black Rose, which is amazing from start to finish!!
I always related to this song so much. I'm from a small town and left the town to do bigger things in the big city. When I came back, it wasn't the same, my childhood friends looked at me differently, vibes weren't the same, and I felt like the "new kid in town" even though I was born and raised in that very town. I know my interpretation is likely not the same as the writer intended, but thats the beauty of music; its all open to interpretation!
Eagles were a staple of the 70s, welcome to their legend-hood. Blessed with harmonies and musicianship, their playlist is endless. 'Those Shoes', please consider this one. It's been suggested a couple of times in the comments here; not as popular but is just as brilliant.
JOE WALSH! He is the reason the Eagles became so great and was brought in to give then a rock edge. You should listen to Turn to Stone from the Barnstorm album. Absolute AMAZING song!
Don Felder played the best riffs and did the most musical arrangements-his guitar playing was the best-he's so underrated. Some of his riffs are the most memorable part of the songs second only to the words and harmonies. Of course Walsh was terrific too-but not enough fans give credit to what Felder brought.
I'm not sure why the harmonies In this song were awarded. All the Eagles songs had fantastic harmonies. There are so many great songs from them I hope you react to. Loving your comments.
Does anyone agree that the original lineup of Henley, Frey, Meissner and Leadon was the best by far? Leadon was the one who played all those great riffs, fills and solos that are a cornerstone of their sound.
They are just as consistent in their vocals live. Sometimes their studio arrangements of the music are better, sometimes they are better live. Great group. generally consistent in their sound-that is one of the reasons they have such a huge fanbase.
With their guitar arsenal they could turn ordinary songs into classics. You don't even realize what Don Felder has put in here until you focus on the guitar.
I found you a couple days ago and have been watching some of your reactions. I just subbed and am hoping that you will react to Home Free. They are an acapella band and i think you would love them. Maybe you could do a double reaction and do The Eagles "Seven Bridges Road" and then do the Home Free acapella cover by Home Free. They do mostly covers but have quite a bit of originals also. Their harmonies will really blow you away, and their beatboxer is a world class award winning beatboxer. This isn't your great Grandma's acapella. Anyway. i am enjoying watching you and hoping to see my favorite band from you.
Their music was top Noth! The instrumentals and vocals were unmatched. RIP GLENN FRYE When they broke up, they had successful dolo careers. They did a 50 years anniversary concert last year with Vince Gill and Glenn son Deacon Frye.
Not sure if this is true. But within the last year or so, I heard that this song was at least to some degree inspired by Frey being a little jealous or irritated by the attention Bruce Springsteen was beginning to receive around that time. Born To Run was released in '75 and this Eagles song was released in '76.
The vocals in this song are perfection. Glenn Frey never sounded better. This song was recorded long before Auto-Tune destroyed music. The Eagles didn't need studio trickery to fix flaws; they were that good.
You should check it out teenage jail. Completely different sound for the Eagles. You'll get a sense of how talented and interesting they really were by appreciating their diversity
The story at that time it was written for President Jimmy Carter who was a fan and the song was a dig at politics. Today your popular, the new kid it town and don't let us down!
The overall sound is reminiscent of when they were Linda Ronstadt's backing band years earlier. Baja California, southwest dessert, Country-Pop sounds of the time ie: Poco and Pure Prairie League come to mind...give this a listen PPL's "Falling in and out of Love With You"/"Amie"... th-cam.com/video/Tu8v0aGOONA/w-d-xo.html or, Poco's "Heart of the Night"... th-cam.com/video/bqRi_hC2qWI/w-d-xo.html Stay safe...be well...
Back in the day, it wasn't enough just to know how to sing. You also had to write music and play an instrument. Exponentially more talented in my opinion. Of course those kinds of talented people are still around today, but they are the anomalies in popular music.
Love your channel. Could you please react to David Gilmour - In Any Tongue (2016 live at Pompeii). yes the same pompeii as in 1972 with echoes. It is an incredible performance by David with a soaring guitar solo! performing at the age of 70, still sounding as young as ever.
Best small town explaining.. Its just the interest in a new entry to the small town youth society, ..I experienced that at 16 new town new school.." They will never forget you till somebody new comes along.. Just teen and twenty doings. I think you are looking for a bit to much " metaphor" here . Its like Beach Boys youth description -
It seems JD Souther started writing this song then Henley an Frey helped him finish it . Great song ! Here is Souther's own version th-cam.com/video/U_w2O3DImcc/w-d-xo.html
The girl is metaphor to fleeting fame. One day you are on top and the Crowd (girl) loves you, the next day there is a new kid in town taking the pretty girl away from you a la, there is a new band in town and no ones buying your albums, or there is a new movie star and no one wants to see your films anymore.
As a kid, the depth of the lyrics flew completely over my head. I have so much more respect now! Thanks & turn it UP!
People will still be listening to SUPER 70S MUSIC, MILIONS OF YEARS FROM NOW.
I believe he is going too far with the group metaphor business ..Small town youth and teen life ,
@@kevanbodsworth9868 In an interview, the band members said it was basically about the fleeting nature of fame.
The Eagles were at the top of their game here, great lyrics, music and the beautiful harmonies. You can see why they had/have a huge fan base.
The chord changes... Genius construction.
" Tequila Sunrise" an Eagles Gem of a song!
Glenn Frey died 8 years ago today, January 18, 2016. It's also my late Fathers birthday, RIP Glenn & Dad.
50 years later! It still sounds good! 👍
Me too ... 50 years. I'd like to have some of them back.
The eagles are my entire childhood. They were always playing on the stereo system in our bar downstairs when I was a kid. You got to check out some of their live stuff from the hell freezes over album.
I'm glad you did the studio track because the production is excellent on their albums.
The “girl” as you put it, is actually a metaphor for “fame”. You gotta remember the Eagles are from Southern California, LA/Hollywood. This is my favorite song they did. Sad but true.

only song I can sing that I can reach all the notes from start to finish and know all the words 😂❤

When this came out, I didn't love it because it was too mellow. I was 15, lol. But as I aged and mellowed, it has grown on me.
As far as this later stuff goes, I bet you would really love their song, Life in the Fast Lane. That Joe Walsh riff at the beginning is killer and the words are fantastic and it's just a solid rocking song.

Excellent analysis! I think you really nailed it!
This song certainly captures the feel of small town living in the 70's - I'm always going back to that time when I hear it.
Ninth grade. A boy, who just moved to my neighborhood. Had such a crush on him. Sigh . . .
You deserve the bests because of your tastes of musics for react. Good job bro , keep going 👍👍 🤘🤘.

Great breakdown of the Eagles. You are really insightful with the way you analyze these lyrics.

It is beautifully crafted. In terms of composition, it is head and shoulders better than everything else

Must start with Dirty Laundry and then Boys of Summer.
I am always surprised by how much I love this song and how it grows on me with every hearing. This is a beautifully complicated country song with subtle transitions and accelerations ...and those amazing harmonies. Great concept and lyrics too.
Such warm mellow harmonies. Just beautiful. RIP Randy ❤
My fav by Eagles.

What hip hop artist (and there are good ones) could possibly pull off this level of musicality? No computers, just talent.
There was speculation back in the day that this was written after Springsteen's rise to fame with his Born to Run album back in '75.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Love your accent and voice - lovely to listen to!
Eagles, great band, the track you are reacting to, the lyrics are so cleverly written,

Okay, seeing the actual lyrics just destroyed my childhood, lol, I always assumed this was just Bout a new kid in town!
Eagles used metaphor a LOT! The whole "Desperado" album is a metaphor for the music industry.
JOE WALSH! He is the reason the Eagles became so great and was brought in to give then a rock edge. You should listen to Turn to Stone from the Barnstorm album. Absolute AMAZING song!
Not diminishing what Walsh brought to the band- he is great - but the band was already great. That monster greatest hits album is all pre-Walsh.

My favorite Eagles song, harmonies are incredible at 6:09. I always turn that part up if I'm in the car ;-)

No disrespect but Eagles blow his doors off. I believe it's about Bob Seger who I could totally see it being about.
I consider this to be one of the very few “perfect” songs that have ever been created. My opinion of course.
You really need to hear Wasted Time from the same album. Only nine songs on the album but all are very good.
Never hear anyone react to "Those Shoes" by the Eagles. Missing out by reacting only to the typically listened to Eagle songs.
YESSS!! Those Shoes is one of my favorites - I'm going to suggest it as well.
Such perceptive comments!!
You gotta hear *The Eagles Victim Of Love* off this album
Thank you!❤
One of my favorite songs
The vocals in this song are perfection. Glenn Frey never sounded better. This song was recorded long before Auto-Tune destroyed music. The Eagles didn't need studio trickery to fix flaws; they were that good.
Think this album is now number 1 on the greatest selling albums of all time …..2 and 3 are Dark Side of the Moon and Thriller.
I think this was the Eagle's best tune.
I think it also refers to fame can be fleeting and someone is waiting to step into your spot.
Great Glen Frey (FRY) song.
RIP. Such a lovely voice! From this song to Lyin Eyes to Smuggler's Blues and You Belong to the City.
I always thought they were talking about groupies who continuously move from one man, group and thing to another, "the new kid in town."
Great song written by the great singer-song writer John David (J.D.) Souther
You should check it out teenage jail. Completely different sound for the Eagles. You'll get a sense of how talented and interesting they really were by appreciating their diversity
Glenn Frey on lead vocals
Always thought this was a gorgeous song.
The Eagles have actually sold more records than anyone....even Elvis and the Beatles.
The best version of this song is for me the 1977 live concert.
The story at that time it was written for President Jimmy Carter who was a fan and the song was a dig at politics.
Today your popular, the new kid it town and don't let us down!
I don’t think this is a metaphor for anything. I think it’s someone’s recollection of adolescence. Great tune.
I always found this song almost too depressing to listen to. I haven't even given it a chance in probably 30 years. Damn what a song though.
