The Fortnite Shotgun meta has evolved from Chapter 1 Season 0, all the way up till Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1. I break down the shotgun changes from Pump, Tactical, Charge, Lever, Auto Shotgun, Striker Pump shotgun and many more.

And now they added back the heavy shotgun, however it's had a ton of changes. It only shoots one pellet, its range is incredible and it does the most damage in the game (still no 200 pump tho). However, it is sometimes incredibly challenging to hit a shot with it and you would have to have good aim to be able to use it in most scenarios.

Yeah, but I think the heavy shotguns doesn't look like a shotgun anymore with that aim. I like it but I think it should be a shotgun that can do like 180 damage in headshot but it's slow to reload ( not too slow like in the older seasons). They should have released the sniper shotgun as it's own weapon.

It's basically an old combat aka sniper shotgun
You forgot that in Season 1 Chapter 2 the pump and tac did the exact same base and headshot damage but the tac could shoot faster while the pump had a slightly longer range. The tac then got nerved too much at start of Season 2 so you only hit 40 when an opponent was more than 1 tile away. This then also made the charge season weird because the charge felt clunky and the tac hit really low. Then in S5 the tac got buffed again
The "buff" the Tactical got in Season 15 was 4 damage
yea at the start of chapter 2 season 1 pump was completely pointless cuz the tac was practically a double pump version of the pump (they did the same bodyshot and headshot damage)

got the tac was so strong when chapter 2 came out.
Despite how broken it was, I feel like the heavy shotgun dealing 300 damage at close combat to the head should have stayed, because it would have finally earned the name heavy shotgun.
I honestly think season X's combat/tac/pump was the best, since each of them promoted a different play style (long range / boxfight / midrange)
Agreed best meta because it was the best selection of strong shotguns to compete with each other.

my biggest complaint with the season is actually the shotgun reload times, these guns would be so much more usable if they werent soooo slow
Things you can do while reloading the Auto Shotgun:
Build a castle
Build to sky limit
Win a match... or get killed because the shotgun takes too long to reload
Get another (better) shotgun
Kill the Foundation/Gunnar
Get to level 200 in the Battle Pass

I feel like they needa make the striker shoot as fast as the pump since it can’t do as much damage and nerf smgs than arena would be playable

the striker is ok atm but another small buff will be welcomed. its just the smg needs a nerf. the mk7 is ok now since you cant blast through builds with it anymore.
Also if they made it so that the striker didnt do 20 damage headshots that would be nice

I loved the season 3 meta in general, the pump was balanced because of the nerfed double pump and the tac was an eligible option against it because of its wider reticle.
Chapter 1 season 2-5 was when the game was at its best.

I liked chapter 2 season 5. feel like its more fun without the pump Even tho people want it Back. If it is in the game everyone will Use it and i Enjoy the charge
I feel like chap 2 season 8 is better If they buff the lever slightly than its going to be balance everyone is going to use shotgun to their preference.

I recently played Project Era, and oh my god do the shotguns feel so powerful compared to newer shotguns. Its insane.

If you want a good meta loadout i would say 2 smgs if they are about blue or above rarity. 1 mk seven and then mini shield and the guzzle juice. This would be for Arena. Dont pick up a shotgun. they are absolutely terrible unless its a gold striker pump.
"there was no meta everyone was dog shit" is literally the most acurate description of everything until season 4
Pump, Tac and Charge are what I'd call the perfect shotgun meta, pump is great for box fighting, Charge is good for endgame and defensive playstyles, and the tac is great for boxfighting and zero builds
The charge wasn't in chapter 2 season 7, unfortunately because I really like it, but I did craft the lever from tac in that season, just because I don't like the tac at all
Fair enough however i feel like that meta was either pump or tac and most didn’t bother to use the lever because it was either too slow or too weak

Chapter five shotgun meta: **FRENZY**
The Pump was by far the most balanced during Seasons 6-8, and the Tac was most balanced during Chapter 2 Season 2

@@V1Salvo purple and gold weapons are made to be good, they may get lucky the pump is known to be a strong shotgun, it needs to at least be balanced. One pump can balance the game out for trash players and good players
The heavy shot gun was perfect for me, rarely lost games with it back in season 3
Chapter 3 shotguns need a buff asap. I’m a returning player who last played back in Ch 1 season 6 and the spray meta is so unbearable.
For example, I boxed a guy in and was able to shotgun him for torso and a headshot, did about 30-60 damage per shot. This guy, just takes his purple smg, and Insta melted me. It’s unplayable.

Heavy was only S tier when it was double heavy beating double pump in every way in C1S4. It's viability has been inconsistent in the past and it being gone for the entirety of C2 makes it an irrelevant weapon not worth ranking.

The damage is so inconsistent with the pump now. It's literally either 40 damage with a headshot, or 110 with a headshot. The shotguns are practically useless, especially if you have the SMG
The auto is even more inconsistent. I hit someone point blank for 18 damage
I love the lever action shotgun so much because who doesn't want an almost fully auto pump? it does amazing in no builds right now, wider spread(tightened when adsing) and it just shreds. I pair it with the mammoth pistol and it works absolute wonders, i pick it over the shark tooth any time I see it, no matter the rarity, I just got so comfortable with it in ch2 s5
Hey Reisshub, I don't know if you will read this but I'm gonna say it anyway.
1. Please don't generalise when talking about the Pump. Everybody definetely doesn't love it, myself included. It's not that I hate the Pumps per se, but their current versions and the cult that has formed over time praying to it. A Pump Shotgun had no business doing 116 body damage. You called out the unhealthy playstyle the Tactical incentivized which I agree with but you and many others are too biased to see the issue with thr Pump Shotgun's base damagd which really threw skill out of the window. The Pump does not promote balance at all (unless the Charge is in or another shotgun is ... which then gets called overpowered and overnerfed thus making the Pump the sole unbalanced meta again :/)
2. I don't fully agree with the Heavy Shotgun being "straight cheeks". People are oblivious to the fact that it is glitched and has been so for the past 1000+ days (vaulted on January 29th, 2019). People literally should not judge it anywhere since mid-Season 7 where it got vaulted to now. It literally does not work as intended in Creative currently. I have fond memories of it because I remember it being a decent shotgun for its time (late Season 4-late Season 6). It does 192 headshot damage for gold and is definetely better than the Striker and Lever you put in a tier above. You need to consider the fact that it does 83 structure damage which allows it to wall-replace with a 7-shell magazine and a faster fire rate than thr Lever.
3. There were some mistakes in the videos. The Charge f.ex. wasn't available in CH2S7. Also, you should have mentioned the Combat's overnerf in CH2S4.
You should also know that the Heavy Shotgun's model and stats got updated around the time Chapter 3 launched. It is coming back 100% this Chapter, HYPEX thinks it might even return this Season.

@@extraterrestrialhorse9722 its a legendary shotgun for a reason. you cant expect to hit for anything under 100 with a legendary shotgun if its not a spam shotgun like the tac, drum, primal shotguns. all of these shotguns promote stupid playstyles while the pump rewards smart plays with good damage. also I believe the pump should be able to one pump because its a damn shotgun. shotguns are supposed to be insane close range.
@@xxgamingodz6119 I have no problem with a Pump one-pumping in a perfect headshot actually, but it dealt too much body damage (which Epic realized). 116 to the toes does not take skill and over-rewards you. You talk about smart plays and skill meanwhile this Pump can shield-crack somebody with only 9 pellets. None of that are smart plays. Back when the Pump couldn't 100 body but 200 head (early Chapter 1) and the blue Pump from Season X to some degree (100 body/200 head) this principle applied. I feel like it is hard to make someone understand the problem when we as a community are sooo used to Pumps being broken and you guys are also biased so your judgement is clouded. The Pump isn't a high risk high reward weapon anymore. It is barely a risk and high reward.
We have entered an era of Fortnite where bodyshot damage is just too high and I applaud Epic for nerfing the bodyshot damage on Pumps (Strikers).
But like I said, I also think headshot multipliers are too low.

Chapter 2 Season 1-5 Pump had the most balanced stats, half of them didnt do insane base and headshot while still being able to compete against the Tactical (not the Common one tho, that didnt do much)
frankly 80/85/90/95/100 x2 headshot is imo the best way to balance it

I love the glass cannon shotguns like the double barrel and the dragon’s breath. If we had a meta based around those I’d actually play this game again

A balanced pump vs combat in season 9 would have been goated. It was so frustrating how they messed that up.
I think it's best if they have two types of viable shot guns within a given meta. Pump vs Tac. Combat vs Charge. A Double Barrel vs the Lever Action.
Ideally those prevalent shotguns would come in uncommon and rare, with the option to upgrade up to epic variants.
For example blue pumps you could upgrade to up to an epic havoc or striker. The Tactical shotgun on the other hand could be upgraded up to an epic variant.
The double barrel could be upgraded to an epic dragon breath. While the lever action could be get a havoc variant to upgraded to.
Ideally you could have reserve legendary and mythic weapons to specific locations POIs that need to be plotted for. A couple gold spas/ tacs scattered amongst the top 2 spots. A well paired mythic shot gun and a couple rare versions of that shotgun at tedious POI.
Having the option to upgrade to a shot gun that is your preference, but not necessarily OP over what is found in floor loot. Or being able to fight/ scheme for weapons that offer an advantage. I actually dream of that shit for this game.
6:00 I really found Tilted Town amazing. So many people hated Season X I know but tbh I enjoyed it. Especially Tilted Town.
I like the chapter 3 season 1 meta. In chapter 3 season 2 they fixed the shotguns, so I personally loved that one. And still have a place in my heart for the heavy, striker, and auto

How is removing the structure damage benefit from the tac a balanced change when the tac was already easily inferior to the pump and charge? Structure damage was the only remaining thing that made purple and gold tacs still viable. Since the tac has a wide reticle, nerfing its headshot damage and range made it an awful weapon in almost every way. Now the auto shotgun has even worse range, much slower reload, and no structure damage. To me, perfect shotgun meta is a nerfed body shot buffed range and headshot tac, just so slightly buffed charge, and the pump with 1.75x headshot
I absolutely agree with you. The problem is that Reisshub's takes suffer from bias towards the Pump, as with almost any other content creator.
The structure damage, as you said, was the only thing remaining that made purple or gold Tacticals somewhat usable, not viable, in the meta. I wish we could get a voice of reason who is unbiased to all shotguns but it is what it is I guess. The Auto can somewhat compete now that the Striker is so much weaker than the Pump.

You forgot to mention that the pump damage range drop off got significantly nerfed in season 5
The shotgun meta with the chapter 2 pumps is boring because it's just you crank up to someone hit then or get hit to 150+ and then get sprayed, no other shotgun will really be successful or used with the pump in the game
I think before they add it back they should nerf it or only add back the green and blue ones

The double pump got patched in season 3 but you could still hit a combo with tac pump- tac heavy- pump heavy.
It later got back during S4 and completely removed in S5

8:00 Season 6 had one of the weirdest ways of getting a pump. The way to go around this was to just land on that wood cabin where there you could find that rockstar girl skin and she would give you a mission to just dance and gave you 120 gold, then you would go to the mini version of flush factory and talk to the npc in the back, and she could give you either a purple or a blue pump

Pump suffered in chapter 2. The amount of buffs and nerfs they did to that gun is just astonishing. Still remember when pump went from hitting 90-180 to 95-190 to 100-185 and all that crap.

Best meta has been the season 5 meta. Charge is the most balanced shotgun, tac is easy to use and easy to fight, lever was a perfect in-between.
A lot of people say this and honestly I think they’re all right. Also the dragon shotgun was a great addition there were four shotguns without any of them clogging up the lootpool and everything had great strengths and it fit the most play styles

i loved the pump/deagle combo from chapter one seasons 6 through 8 (primarily 7) this was the time i played fortnite before leaving and coming back in chapter 2 season 7, and i miss the deagle/pump combo.
This isnt about shotguns but I can swear every lobby I got into in Chapter 2 season 1, over half of them were npcs which made the game so un fun.
11:20 the new shotgun is just a slower version of the pump, you had to wait A TON of time before actually shooting with it because of the animation it had, the auto shotgun is a tac but with a slower reloading time

I think that the crafting and upgardeing mechanic would fit more into Zero Builds cuz you don't have to collect mats for a third of the game. During season 6 it effectivly turned every game into a Minecraft Hardcore PvP server.

Hot take: people use the pump (and charge but that's not relevant) because they rely on the big 100 - 105 body shot. Epic vaulting the pump in season 9 chapter 1 was an upside, you're telling me a shotgun that deals *100+ damage* is fair? No it isn't. And you know what'll happen if they nerfed the damage today? Little Timmies and streamers across the world would cry because their braindead weapon is no more and they have to use other shotguns.
