Have a good an healthy weekend everyone.
Whoever clicked the "Thumb Down-Button": Are you sure that this channel is the right one for you? We are here to support The Broonfords and if some content is not the one you hoped for, you still should be nice. There are lots of videos on TH-cam who deserve this button for sure but not this channel.

I agree! But the jokes on them because a thumbs down is still actually a positive thing for us creators - the worst thing for us is indifference. Stat/algorithm-wise, whichever way the thumb goes is positive.

We lived on the top floor at 26 W. Maitland St around 1960 when I was little. We emigrated to Canada in ‘63, but on a visit to Edinburgh in the 80’s , I rang the bell and asked to see it.
They invited us in, and it was unchanged from when my Dad had decorated it years before!
We were never allowed up the wooden steps in the box room up to the attic, as apparently you could walk the length of the street across all the top attics!

Thank you so much for your virtual tours! I visit Scotland each year and honestly, it's what I live for. Since I can't visit now, your vlogs are the next best thing and have been such a pleasure during these crazy times. You are so good at what you do - informative and you make me laugh. Thanks again!

Just got an Edinburgh travel journal & filled the 1st 2 pages from this week's vlog notes! Might need more copies to fill by the time we've saved up for the trip! Think I've said this before, but your vlogs are why we've decided to spend 3 more days in Edinburgh exploring on our own. Well, with the aid of our notes from your vlogs! Keep up the great work. Tony! Sorry you've been so exhausted, but you've a lovely reason to be exhausted these days!

Apologies if it's been mentioned before but, re: window tax, I learnt in Bath, similar Georgian architecture, that the window tax is the reason we have the expression "daylight robbery".

Stayed at an AirB&B directly across from Haymarket Station and another time at Darly and Richmond Place. There is that lovely pub Ryries in the square and lots of good restaurants and shops in the area. Try The Jolly Botanist on Morrison. I enjoy our wee walks Tony! Hope you, Kirsten and Lilian are well and happy.

Another great video Tony. I used to work on Shandwick Place years ago. Thanks for sharing. 😊 👍And, I'm with you, I definitely think the buildings on Coates and Atholl Crescent are Georgian. Judging by the windows and flat fronts and it's part of the new town, which was built in the Georgian period and they were completed in 1825. They would've been town houses at one point.

My wife and I stayed at the Caledonian a couple of years ago. The lobby, lounge, restaurant, and bar were very nice, and the staff/service was professional and polished. There was some major renovations (?) going on I think, as it seemed about half of the hotel was either temporarily or permanently unoccupied.

Question: We're looking at a package trip of 3 days in London and 3 days in Edinburgh. But then we want to spend 3 more dats in Edinburgh before taking the train up to Dunans Castle to see our 1 square foot of properties in the castle grounds. So we're thinking of saving a ton of money by staying at the Edinburgh youth hostel for our extra 3 days. Could you check it out & do a vlog on it? Surely we're not the only ones looking to save money on lodging so we have more to spend on attractions & in the shops. Would greatly appreciate your input on it.

Hey, stay in the 'Hub by Premier Inn' in Torphicen Street, Haymarket. 4 mins walk from Haymarket Railway Station. Go for the 'Bigger Room' option if you need space either side of your bed. If not, go for the 'standard' double (smaller) room option at £29 per night right now. - One side of the double bed is against the wall, but also without breakfast or dinner, although £5 each day for breakfast per person if you want to add it. Food to be taken back to your room as well as free tea and coffee due to Covid. Free wifi. Rooms are 'immaculate' with large rainfall shower. Water is hot. Good heating and air conditioning. Can't fault this hotel. No alcohol at the bar right now, but if you like clean and very modern contemporary, then go for it!!. Love from Scotland, X.

I adore the different architechtures of Edinburgh! The small balconies are called 'Juliettes' (Romeo & Juliet)not really for standing on, but for leaning out and speaking to your neighbors...
It works best down south, think of the small narrow streets of Napoli, Firenze and Roma! 😉

That stair up to the window used to be the RBS Bank years ago. It was where a cash machine used to be - a rare breed these days of plastic. I know as a student 40+ years ago it was a stop to the pubs in Shandwick place and to get a bus home. I remember the pub now called the Fox and Faun in the 80's and the Grosvenor. Happy days!
Will be visiting the old haunt of the Haymarket this Saturday with a few old pals after the Scotland v Georgia game. PS you passed by the best Nepalese restaurant in Edinburgh called the Khukuri. One pub gone is the Caledonia Ale House next to the Haymarket station. Knocked it down for a tram track - tragic!

Thanks for all your Edinburgh videos. You were wondering what the Fox and Faun bar used to be called. As far as I can tell, the former names were (starting from the late 1960s), The Quaich, Nimmo's, Blake's, Jake's, Dan Mackay's, Au Bar, Fox & Faun. I remember it as The Quaich in the mid-1970s.
