***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Kevin I’m an accountant so I understand the nerdy garden math. I love it!! So happy Sarah has her herb garden. Please be praying for me as I recently lost my sweet husband of 33 years to ALS. My garden is the therapy that has kept me going the last month. I love watching you guys as you remind me of me and my husband over the years. God bless you.
Jeannie, May God give you the strength to find joy in all things again. Amen
I'm so sorry
Peace Be With You Jeannie 🤗❤
May God continue to bless you with faith and strength it's so sad when we lose a spouse or partnet God will help them transition into the new life you have. God Bless you but it's part of life someone will be left alone and God will be there for them.
Prayers for you filled with peace, comfort, and joy to return to you as you navigate your new journey and loving on your garden. I've been widowed for almost 19 yrs and raised my son with my gardens and Homestead, who is now 21 with his own family.
May God Bless you thru all of your life! ❤️ 🙌 🙏
I have a suggestion for one of your herb beds. Erect 3 posts in a triangle shape so you can put up a shade sail if it gets to hot for herbs such as cilantro, parsley etc. not sure if it'll help because it gets so hot there. You can stash it away when not needed. My husband installed XL old mailboxes in my 3 separate garden areas & painted them pretty colors. I stash things in there (ie small garden tools, twine, scissors) . Each mailbox has its own set of items. It's very convenient to keep things close by.
Good idea .
We have and use a cement mixer to mix our soils! We dump it into a wheelbarrow and take it where we need it. Best idea we've ever come up with!
Good morning! It’s nobody business what you do on your homestead, your money your time and YOUR LIFE! Your one of the best couple DOWN TO EARTH! I’m a dedicated to your channel keep up the great work, thanks to you I do raised beds myself TYVM! It’s a experience watching you both!! Until next video! ♥️ Love the Herb Corners! From Connersville Indiana!!
Yeah and who’s business is it how much they money they spend on what they buy! I find it amazing how people apparently feel the need to tell you how to spend your money lol.
But I do find it helpful when planning future projects. I appreciate that they tell us.
Hi Sarah and Kevin. What a special video. I swear you guys win the ‘Big Picture Award’ for 2024, if not forever. You know what you want, and you make it happen, even if you have to wait 10 years! I love your herb raised bed. Just look at the growth on your fruit trees. I remember you planting them. Sending blessings and love. ❤
Your garden looks like a picture out of a magazine! Absolutely beautiful!!
More picturesque with one or two lovely delightful flower bed/s
Love you and family. Thoroughly enjoy each video. At 83 with increasing macular degeneratio, have started a semi keto diet. After one week with also eating one cup of spinish each day as well as three times a week eating sardeens, I am experiencing a tiny bit of improvement in sight as well as losing some unneeded weight. ove your encoureagement This old gal is blessed with your encouragment to tune into! BLESS YOU AND FAMILY! (PS not necessarily recommending this eye experience to anyone else. Just has helped me. God has made each of us so uniquekly!)\
I just came across you two a couple of weeks ago, and I am so glad I did.
I, also am a Christian, therefore, I seek out fellow Christians when I am looking for information on TH-cam. I was seeking some canning information when I found you.
I will be watching regularly now. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
May our Lord continue to richly bless you both.
I've been watching them since I found them during Covid lockdown. Sara & Kevin are so positive and encouraging. I'm not a farmer or homesteader, but I learn so much from them each week. Try to make some time to look at some of their old videos. I know you'll enjoy them.
I did something similar but followed MiGardener method of layering straw/hay about half way up the bed and then topping with soil. The hay acts as a sponge and cuts down on watering needs. Veg roots are fairly shallow and don’t seem need 24 inches of soil.
When I saw the thumbnail I knew it was your herb garden. How wonderful.
$600.00 seems a lot until you've pulled weeds,, jackhammered holes and hauled rocks out every time you plant.
Like canning jars, you can figure it in how many uses or how many years until your break even on your product. From there, it's all dollar (not necessarily labor) savings. In that vein, it depends upon what you actually grow and comparative grocery or retail cost; and do you compare to Now $1.25 Store, bulk, or bottled organic product. Because its so late in the year and using a medium price guage, im guessing they could break even by the end of next year between harvest and soil; maybe sooner.
Amen to that. It is so with it to save your back and not have to deal with horrible weeds over-running your garden beds.
I have been growing medicinal and culinary herbs for over 30 years. Fortunately, they do grow well pretty much everywhere. Congratulations on having an actual herb garden
Beautiful! I look forward to seeing Sarah making herbal concoctions for remedies and grooming. What a joy to be able to finally get it going.
I just love watching you both working together . I have also had the gift of a long, working together
marriage. Enjoy every moment.
I love how nicely your trellises are 'growing in'
Such a beautiful raised bed layout.
It's a beautiful setup. Can't believe how fast the vegetables grew. I remember when you had just started making the beds. Great job!
Yay! So happy for you Sarah! And they fit in lovely with the rest of the beautiful garden! Great video... blessings Kiddos! 🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
Your gardens are amazing
I am so happy for you Sara.
Exciting and I'm so happy for you all! Can't wait to see them full of herbs.
Yay for finally getting your herb garden. Hopefully we get to see what herbs you plant in your next video 🌸🐨🌸
I'm so excited and happy for you to finally have your herb garden 😅❤. Things are coming together ❤️ 🙌.
Such a beautiful raised bed garden
Your dedication to fulfilling your wife's dream after 8 years is truly heartwarming, showing your commitment to creating a joyful homestead. Your love and support for her happiness inspire us all. And I am Floating Village Life
How beautiful! Congratulations ! You guys built a wonderful space with the Vegega containers. That's my dream too .
The garden is beautiful,
Can't wait to see these beds filled and the gigantic smile on Sarah face. 😊❤😊
I admire your relationship and the way you two work so well together. 🥰😍🤩😇
I filled a large flower, tree, bush garden with my compost bin that hadn’t been touched for months. I planted some sedums and day lilies and hostas in it as they were all came from a spring time divide. They didn’t do much growing the first year but the following year the garden looked like it established itself and over grew to be divided once again on its 3rd year. It’s still crazy after 9 years
Good morning! Congratulations on your herb garden 🎉
So excited for you Sarah! God Bless!!
Garden now looks fantastic! For squash bugs, over at Hollar Homestead they're using Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew. It's organic and apparently it's working really well. Thanks for your video and for sharing your beautiful garden!
Beautiful, can’t wait to see the herbs you plant.
Congratulations! We’ve cried uncle on our 2024 gardens. A terrible “plague “ of GRASSHOPPERS has totally decimated gardens for miles and miles. We’ll live vicariously through you this year. Blessings!
Shading and netting will be your best friends for your garden
We've had similar situation with grasshoppers invation many years ago. We're in CA and that year was really dry and hot and we could hear them jumping and chomping at the plants and even dead weeds. My mother-in-law visited us for the first time...and the last time. She was creeped out by the jumping grasshoppers in the front door.
Lately, our challenge is squirrels, mice, and earwigs.
Beautiful!! What a wonderful blessing to be able to have your raised beds! Prayers for continued success for your family and homestead!
So happy for you Sarah, your dream came true this year. It's nice seeing you both working together on the homestead. How are the piggies doing?🐷🐷
Your beds look beautiful!
Awesome job. Teamwork is so rewarding. Love this program.
Wow! Your raised garden is absolutely beautiful! As always, your hard work shows. Frankly, it looks like the garden was just vacuumed!
How beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
You have the neatest garden I’ve ever seen. I enjoy watching you both working together.
Awesome addition to your garden space, " HERBIES CORNERS" . They are going to be awesome for sure. Thanks for sharing with us Sarah and Kevin, going to be so much easier to get the herbs you want and use the most. Stay safe and keep up the fun you two have around there. Fred.
It looks beautiful! So happy for your homestead!🎉
I really love the new garden it looks amazing....😊
Such a beautiful garden. You two are the sweetest couple. So enjoy your channel.❤️❤️
Your garden is looking gorgeous! I love seeing how everything is growing both in the raised beds and in the greenhouse. I was able to plant tomatoes, basil, and other herbs this year, and watching everything grow is one of the greatest joys of my life. Thank you for including us in your garden adventures!
I enjoyed watching the ducks or geese running around behind you as you work. I’m glad you can finally do the herb garden. Please tell us how you use them after you harvest each type.
Beautiful garden. After the hurricane came through here is south central Texas, I need to go back out and re-assess the garden. We were on the dirty side of the eyewall that passed just few miles away, so we got tossed a bit. Looks like the tomatoes need to be tied back up and possibly trimmed. Cages holding the peppers fell over, too. And lots of rain, so the weeds have taken off. Squash is a goner. But no major damage, so we are thankful for that. And power is back on, so I have my water well and AC. May only be in low 90's but with 80-90% humidity, it's like a sauna out there. Still recovering from surgery in June, so it's a little at a time.
Good evening. Your garden looks amazing. Like it comes out of a magazine. ❤️ so glad u get to plant ur herbs in those raised beds. I love my herbs❤
Looks like you will have room along the fencing between the 2 bigger corner beds to put 1 or 2 of the 2x8 beds. More room for more herbs, LOL!! Nice job and the beds do look very nice. Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.
Or flowers 😉
Good ☕️☕️ Morning Kevin & Sarah, your raised beds look so nice.I love herbs too Sarah.❤
Love this channel. After watching you get the beds I ordered 15. The weed fabric you recommended I also purchased and love it. Keep the videos coming!
I also/ordered the weed barrier and LOVE it as well. My garden looks great this year and NO weeds.
😊 ❤ I am so happy for you, Sarah. You have a great husband who cares what you like ans helps you get it. And, you finally got your REAL herb gardens. So happy for you. ❤ I know your joy on all counts! We just celebrated our 58th wedding anniversary 🎉, and my beloved has regarded me the same. Yes I love foraging and growing medicinal herbs.
Sarah not sure if you will read this, but 3 yrs ago you did a piece on Comfrey. I tracked down 8 seeds and kept the plants going in my greenhouse for a year. Last year planted all of them outside. Wow! Do I have comfrey, using now as fertilizer. Thank you for the info!
First time watching you can you please tell me where you are? Love your raised garden.
I remember when I was very little helping my grandfather fill up raised beds once. His process was a little different like you. He used several different types of soil in Ireland. We’re lucky enough to have that type of Pete which we get from the bogs which we add to our soil we’d also harvest seaweed he’d have all his grandkids going down cutting it off at the right place so it would grow back again dry it out and add it to his mix. He used to take the top soil, Pete, compost, seaweed and couple of handfuls of pea gravel throw it all into an old concrete mixer. Let it turn up for a little bit, adding a cup of water and then pouring it out into a wheelbarrow, and then we would shovel it into the raised beds. Similar but different. I tell you that soil it was able to grow anything.
Awesome! That will be so nice Sarah, can't wait to see it done! Blessings!
I noticed your hay in the background and I would love to see a video about growing your own hay and what all goes into that! Also about what goes into keeping your pastures up for your cattle
thanks do much for sharing your life.
Happy your garden bounced back! it loos great! I am sure you will have great success with your new herb garden~!💚
Enjoy watching you together!!
Sara I’m so happy for you. I have dried herbs for winter put up and still more to come 👍. I cook all summer n fall with fresh herbs and my kitchen window box ♥️♥️♥️ Open the window and cut what I want as I’m cooking
Kevin… happy spouse happy house 😊
Thank you for taking the time to show setting up the irrigation. I know you did it in previous video but I usually don't have time go back and look at an earlier one. It has taken me 5 chunks of time to watch this one on short breaks from the heat as I get things done. I know I can go back and watch the sprinkler installation again but as I watched I was hoping you did a second one before going to the next section of the video (slow learner I guess ). And I have my entire garden set up on micro sprinklers but slightly different system. Love your videos. You two and Rose Red Homestead are the best teachers You Tube. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these. Would love to see some cattle videos.
I got my solid tubing and the emitters after I watched a video of yours and the plants are doing awesome in their raised beds. Thank you
Hello, how fantastic!
The buckets should save a lot of precious time. Enjoyed the video. Blessings from Arizona
Your garden is breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL!
Always well explained! Thanks!☺️ ❤
Excellent project. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Sarah, and Kevin, I have to say I've followed y'all for a while now, and love these garden beds. Over the years we've used wood to make our garden beds. We've used fire (Japanese way known as yakisugi) to preserve our wood before planting. It's been almost 6 years, and some of the beds are starting to show improvement is needed. My husband, and I decided to make the investment. We're slowly purchasing these same metal beds in hopes of having all the materials in the next year or so to replace all the wood. We need to make things easier to work with since were getting older.
Garden looks great!
Love the Herbies corner!!
Love Menards 😊
Did anyine else see the big spider (I think!) starting at 5m14s???
I hope you have better luck with mushroom compost. I believe it caused us to have fungus issues on some of our plants. Plus mushrooms growing in the pots.
Those corner beds look so cool! I put together a Bunch of raised beds this past spring to fill my big GS high tunnel greenhouse (identical to yours). My beds are a different brand, and they are 8x4’ and 6x3’ in size. A total of 1,040 bolts! Whew! Lol 😆 …took me two weeks.
Btw, I finished building my high tunnel this past spring, too…took me two years to build it! But I am just one old lady and I need to rest a lot. I appreciate your videos. I learn so much! Thank you!
Filling multiple raised beds similar to yours over the years. $600 is truly a fair price. Even with my (8) 3ftx4ftx12inch beds. I probably spent $200 on a good quality soil. And I even topped all of the beds off with 3 inches of my own compost from my leaf waste (which is free). So..Menards was a good deal for you.. 👍
Awesome the benefits will be amazing for years to come … you did a great job !!! Looks great 👍 ❤
I love your new beds! "Save Big Money at Menards"!! Lol!! I work at one of their stores in Minnesota! Those sprinklers are so cute!! 😊 Sarah, you're going to love your herb gardens!! Great video!! 💕
Hello Sarah and Kevin,
Why don't you use your own cows' manure??
Have you considered making your own compost like mr. Dowding does?
Have you stopped raising rabbits? Maybe get back to rabbits for their poop?
Looks wonderful. Hope your herbs love it. ❤
Many people would love to do what you all are doing with these better products. Problem is they don’t have income you have to do it, so we have a o make do. We started over 20 years ago…. Find many that bags we wish we would have done differently, but at the time, we were just getting by. Now we’re older and unable to make the changes due to age and medical problems. Still have our beds, and still play though.
Awesome! I can't wait to see all your herbs 😊
Fantastic and very happy for you both. I love growing culinary and medicinal herbs.
The garden looks gorgeous!!!!! I think I planted my onions WAY too deep. I don't see them (Bulbs) yet. :( Love the new herb beds. I was never taught how to garden or can. I am learning on my own. It's definitely harder than I thought....lol
We have used large wheeled dollies to move bags of chicken feed, mulch etc. to places we can’t reach with the tractor. Love your garden! We have duplicated most of the ideas! Love and hugs from Maine
Good morning 🙏😊
How exciting!! And such an inspiration! You always know what you want and make the plan to make it work!
Thank you and have a blessed week! 🙏
Looks great! You guys are a great team.
So happy for you Sarah
I love the Garden beds and have purchased for my own backyard beds. Your garden beds look awesome!!! Love the arches too. These corner beds are great!!! Yes coming in the mail is amazing and on your door step!!! I love mine. lol I agree ... pulling the plastic off was the most difficult part! lol Took time but was easy. Great setup ... really like your watering system. All the best to you all. Thanks for sharing. Your orchard in the back ground looks really good. Love your newsletter. All the best.
It's going to be amazing! There's always an up front cost, but it pays for itself in the wonderful food it produces! I'm so happy for you!! ❤️❤️
Weve been very happy with our herb garden. Chickens love the scraps. Hard to beat homemade marinara with a bushel of herbs bathing in it!
Wonderful I'm fixing to do a raised bed idea. Not as elaborate as yours. Hope it works out. Watching y'all I have learned a lot.thank you
Thank you for this video. Your beds are going to be fantastic!
The raised beds came out awesome!!
❤ You are such a great team!
looks great good luck with your herbs!
Thank you Kevin & Sarah. Very good. The " water event " has not happened yet, but should happen this year according to Mike from around the world. Sometimes relying on science for the timing doesn't always work out. God Bless you all in Love. Maranatha ! ( shared to f/b as always )
Serious question, why do all the raised bed companies tell you to remove the plastic film from the bed pieces. Seems like leaving it on, at least the outside, would provide extra protection for every day bumps bangs and scratches🤔. I know, off topic, but thats how my mind works😬
Your garden is just beautiful....❤
