In a 2001 interview with MTV News, Uncle Kracker stated that "Follow Me" was "definitely different" from other songs on Double Wide: "[W]hen we first started recording that song, with us being from Detroit, that song was supposed to be this doo-wop/Motown song - something different, because every song's got its own little twist. And this song was supposed to have that, but after we recorded it, I was like, 'Man, that could be something for radio,' so we switched it back. [The song] takes on a couple of different meanings. I've heard some people think that I'm talking about drugs, or some people think I'm talking about cheating. I guess it's kinda both. I would never want to say anything that would get myself in trouble, being married with a couple of kids. That song is like a dirty picture painted with a pretty brush." This is what it is about. Wasn't dedicated to anyone.
@@amyschildgamerlive4519 It's not, but it doesn't always have to be. I once looked for the song The Flood by Take That, but I didn't know the name the of song or the name of the band at that time. I love this song. This song was the very FIRST song I learned when I was little. My mom loved it too. This was our song. My mom passed away 3years ago in July. Every-time I hear this song I want to cry.
I love how music can mean so many different things to different people…. As a kid this was just an upbeat song that I sang in the car…. But now as an adult addict in recovery, it is clearly about heroin…. And half the people in these comments interpret this song differently and that’s the beauty of music!
It's about a guy how is sleeping with a woman who's married. "I'm not worried about the ring you wear" "I'm not the reason you go a stray, We'll be okay if you don't ask me to stay"
@@ThePicturePixie “I’m not worried about the ring you wear because as long as no one knows than nobody can care” hiding drug addiction from a spouse. @@LeftieLoosie Yeah no. From what I checked online about the song it's about both and neither. @@ThePicturePixie lol it could be…. I’m not saying that it’s the absolute meaning. I have no idea what the artist was thinking when it was written. I was just saying what the song means to me. From personal experience. I am a recovering addict. When I heard this song as a child I heard a cheating song… when I heard this song as an addict who has been clean for years, I hear a song where it’s almost like the drug is singing to an addict, only because it sparks that part of my life for me. Every line I can relate back to drugs, which most people couldn’t, because what makes sense to an addict doesn’t usually make sense to a non addict. So I wasn’t trying to say “hey you’re wrong this is actually about blah blah blah, was just saying what the song means to ME, how I interpret it, and how it brings me peace.

When you're older and pay attention to the lyrics, it's shocking how dark the lyrics actually are and what this song is really about. "swim through your veins like a fish in the sea" Holy shit!
Its about adultery not heroin. One line kinda half ass implies heroin while the rest of the song paints a clear picture of adultery but fuck it lets go with that one line that might be about heroin if you tilt your head and squint at it really hard.
@@Maibuwolf It's most definitely about heroin addiction but that's the beauty of this song because it would fly over heads like yourself You'd have to be an addict to truly understand this song It's definitely not just that one line....If you know anything about heroin You'd know it describes the drug talking to the addict
I started singing it in the shower and had to look it up cause all I knew was the chorus. Probably haven't heard the song in 10 years and it was still in there somehow!

Dam dude...it’s insane how you can interpret a song if you don’t look at or know the lyrics then how much that song changes when you finally understand the true meaning of said song
I miss my brother, he use to always tell me everytime he heard this song it reminded him of me, when I was little kid. I love you jeffy. My last voice-mail of u before u were gone was you singing this. I fucking miss you bad. I love you. #SiblingsforeverBigBro💔
Wow I never had a dad growing up and this was my comfort song at the age of like 9. I didn't understand the lyrics I just wanted a father figure and his voice was so sweet "ill be the one to tuck you in at night" was all I needed. Fast forward 15 years and I listen again to realize... WOW I had NO IDEA what this song was trying to convey.
When I was a small lad, my mother would play a cassette tap Uncle Kracker every night, and I always thought he was my real uncle. Amazing memories. Thank you, Uncle.
First I am VERY sorry for your loss! This was mine and my mom's song also and she passed away on November 19, 2014 at 6 p.m. She was an AMAZING mom when she wasn't doped up. We got our relationship a lot better and I was the VERY last thing she said was I love you baby girl I love you. I told her I love you mommy
2003-2005 at Parkdale daycare in Norfolk, Virginia. Still remember doing a little performance to this song on the wood platform in the backyard of the "older kids" building. That's a very strong memory. I'm forever going to love this song regardless of what it's about, because ironically it embodies innocence for me. My childhood.
I got chills once I learned what this song is about. Drugs is one hell of drug But that’s the best part about music… it’s whatever you interpret it as & it becomes everyone’s anthem to their own life journey ❤
I work at a dispensary in California and there’s a lot of different people different ages and races I see everyday, but when I play this song everyone sings a long and has a great vibe (:
I remember so vividly singing this song in kindergarten in front of my friends. We were sitting at a table and I was singing it and they all just started laughing. I got so embarrassed I was too scared to ever sing again... but that moment and this song reminds me that... no matter the song or the audience, if you're enjoying singing and your happy in the moment, it doesn't matter. I'm glad that day happened, because without it and without this song.... I wouldn't have the confidence to sing out loud ❤
I used to listen to this all the time growing up, completely forgot it even existed after not listening to it for 2 years, that was 4 years ago now, and it just got brought up on a tiktok I was just watching, brought me back, but there were so many bad times back when I grew up, but I can't help but love this song.
This song is not about heroin. "and swim through your veins like a fish in the sea" is a simile. Love is chemical reaction in the body. And the hormones are in your blood stream. Last time I checked, love is just as addicting. Heroin doesn't tuck you in at night, your lover would. Grow up people. It's not about drugs. Unlike most music, Country music has actual meaning.
"It takes on a couple of different meanings. I've heard some people think that I'm talking about drugs, or some people think I'm talking about cheating. I guess it's kinda both. I would never want to say anything that would get myself in trouble, being married with a couple of kids. That song is like a dirty picture painted with a pretty brush." Really, it just depends on your interpretation.
Honestly, seeing so many people comment to correct that this song was not made in 1974 makes me so happy that there are actually intelligent people still out there who read the descriptions.
I usw to jam to the song all the time. I fell to addiction after fighting PTSD from 19yrs of being a firefighter/EMT. After I found out this song was about addiction in rehab 5 yes ago. I could definitely understand why this is about heroin
used to sing this with a friend on the school bus back in 5th/6th grade--I still remember how we'd sing it at the top of our lungs when it would come on. :) Now I'm in college and I still love itttt

Its about adultery not heroin. One line kinda half ass implies heroin while the rest of the song paints a clear picture of adultery but fuck it lets go with that one line that might be about heroin if you tilt your head and squint at it really hard.
@@Maibuwolf It's not just the one line, the entire song perfectly describes heroin addiction from the perspective of the drug itself.
@@hazleweatherfield968 When you put it that way, that's so fucked up
@@hazleweatherfield968 same
@@Maibuwolf It's most definitely about heroin addiction but that's the beauty of this song because it would fly over heads like yourself You'd have to be an addict to truly understand this song It's definitely not just that one line....If you know anything about heroin You'd know it describes the drug talking to the addict
Wow I haven't heard this one in years. I forgot about it and then just now it starts playing after I got done listening to Gimme The Beat Boys, lol!
Holy moly, this is first time I've actually listened to the lyrics in this song O.o
RogueNinja16 Aaa
Aaahhgv cv
Heroin addiction actually, listen close.

I remember driving around an this would always came on. My family blared it and sang it in harmony :)
I would dance to this when I was a baby with my grandma.
I was in 3 grade when this came out and so picture a bus of elementary students singing this. It was good times that I truly miss.
79thinline So soothing that when I was 3, I'd be struggling to stay awake and not be lulled to sleep by it. Good times.
I was 1 years old but now I love the song and have been listening to it for about 14 years so basically since it came out I was loving this song
I had to show my fiancee this because this was a suggested wedding song when I looked up wedding songs. I'm here to share my laughter from this.
My sister got me into this when i was 6 or 7 and here i am today listening to it. It still it brings back great memories
my god I'm only 15 and this makes me feel old. my family watched the animal a while ago and this song came on and we all felt really nostalgic. we herd this all the time when I was little.
So you’re 19 now, how’s that nostalgia?😂
@@winter7531 Haha I just listened to this song after all these years and finally found out what he was singing bout....Ahhh junkie life
I’m loving this comment section.
Yeah.. I’m 25 now and just found out what the song from my childhood was really about.
That nostalgia, man…. I want to be a kid again. 😭🤣
Also, was it pun intended or not when you used the words “animal” and “herd” in the same paragraph or am I delusional? Lol
2024 and still listening to this song and i will listen to it till my dying day
I remember so clearly hearing this on the radio growing up...take me back🤧
man i was like 3 when i heard this and loved it and still do so much nostalgia
I'm so glad that people like you take the time out to make these videos with the song lyrics so that people like me can learn to sing along no matter where they're at
I remember listening to this when I was like, 6. It was my favorite song at the time, and it's still good to come back and listen to it.
Thumbs up if you were six at the time and liked listening to this song like it was your jam. 👍🏻

Dam dude...it’s insane how you can interpret a song if you don’t look at or know the lyrics then how much that song changes when you finally understand the true meaning of said song
Definitely about Heroin
@@jayg9283 totally 😂😂
@@jayg9283 wrong
the song doesnt change. it is still just as good as it was. its only your thoughts that change.

March of 2021. Anyone else still here listening to this classic song? 💜
two things you can take away from this song:
1. cheating
2. drugs
I thought it's also about child kidnapping
@@dprssdcat That was whiskey in the water
Its about heroin. How it doesnt discriminate and doesnt care if you have a ring or not.
I thought drugs. Especially the swimming in your veins like a fish in the sea part.
It's sang from the perspective of heroin. It's about addiction.
Me and my mom would sing this all the time when I was younger. She's gone now and singing this makes me think of the good old days. Love you Mom...
R.I.P.
R.i.p. don't worry mama is safe and happy... stay strong we will all 're unite one God's day. Insallah

I've been singing this to my gf since I meet her and she still loves it. I've been singing it to her since July of 2019!

So you're singing to your girlfriend about heroine?

When I was a small lad, my mother would play a cassette tap Uncle Kracker every night, and I always thought he was my real uncle.
Amazing memories.
Thank you, Uncle.

First I am VERY sorry for your loss!
This was mine and my mom's song also and she passed away on November 19, 2014 at 6 p.m. She was an AMAZING mom when she wasn't doped up. We got our relationship a lot better and I was the VERY last thing she said was I love you baby girl I love you. I told her I love you mommy

2023 people come onnnn such a banger of a song 🎉
"This was made in 1974." No. Uncle Kracker was born in 1974, but this song came out in 2001.
SodaBoy628 Lol! I just googled it too. I thought it sounded fishy

"all you know is when im with you i make you free, and swim through your veins like a fish in the sea"
sound like he is heroin.
Thats what it is
It seems to simply be about a man and a married woman?
@@alanamachado6725 and you seem to be simply moronic
2003-2005 at Parkdale daycare in Norfolk, Virginia. Still remember doing a little performance to this song on the wood platform in the backyard of the "older kids" building. That's a very strong memory. I'm forever going to love this song regardless of what it's about, because ironically it embodies innocence for me. My childhood.
2022 still listening to this 🔥
This song used to make me so happy, I never paid much attention to the lyrics before lol not what I expected
I like this song
Im playing old songs for my dad for fathers day 2020
2021 who's here
I got chills once I learned what this song is about. Drugs is one hell of drug
But that’s the best part about music… it’s whatever you interpret it as & it becomes everyone’s anthem to their own life journey ❤
I love this song, it brings back some really good memories with my sisters!(:
2017 and still love this song
Christine Cook who Doesn't?
2018 and I'm still here :p
Yea i love cheery songs about adultery as well.
*2019😅
A brilliant record by one of the best singers of his time.
I work at a dispensary in California and there’s a lot of different people different ages and races I see everyday, but when I play this song everyone sings a long and has a great vibe (:
Man that's sounds great. I'd much rather have people jam to this than whatever stupid ass music that keeps playing on the radio these days
It's about heroin addiction maybe that's why they were laughing haha
2023, high school faves
Uncle Kracker was born in 1974, so unless he was able to speak before the age of 1, this was not made in 1974.
I heard this song the other day, and I still knew every word. Haven't heard it in years! It's one of those songs that sticks in your head
2022, where we at folks.
2020 and still listening to this, its so good to my ear, makes me relax.
2022 who's here
I used to listen to this all the time growing up, completely forgot it even existed after not listening to it for 2 years, that was 4 years ago now, and it just got brought up on a tiktok I was just watching, brought me back, but there were so many bad times back when I grew up, but I can't help but love this song.
Uncle Kracker is a Rock Musician actually.
i hope your right
OK. Then it's about adultery.
Yes it is actually heroin does tuck you in at night most users sleep on their sides to avoid choking on their own vomit
"It takes on a couple of different meanings. I've heard some people think that I'm talking about drugs, or some people think I'm talking about cheating. I guess it's kinda both. I would never want to say anything that would get myself in trouble, being married with a couple of kids. That song is like a dirty picture painted with a pretty brush."
Really, it just depends on your interpretation.
I sang this song at pre school and now everyone says this song reminds them of me...im now 22 and everyone still says it ❤
This song is about a dude fucking a married woman and people say the song reminds them of you? Im not sure that is a compliment..............
Thank you for sharing this awesome song ❤
Honestly, seeing so many people comment to correct that this song was not made in 1974 makes me so happy that there are actually intelligent people still out there who read the descriptions.
hey i remember this song... its a good 1 naaaawwww yall!!! (4-12-24)
My dad sang this song to me when I was 2 weeks old. It was the first song I heard.
Awww. That’s hella special.

I usw to jam to the song all the time. I fell to addiction after fighting PTSD from 19yrs of being a firefighter/EMT. After I found out this song was about addiction in rehab 5 yes ago. I could definitely understand why this is about heroin
