Love the quality of Glengoyne. The research I did back in the day suggested they used Golden Promise Barley. Not sure if they still do but there’s definitely something to be said about allowing a spirit to stand alone without the influence of peat. These guys are masters at it.

We all agree with that. Haven’t had a bad one from this distillery. It looks like the younger age expressions are not exclusive Golden Promise but would love to talk to the distillery and find out for sure. You should get back on our show soon and we can share a dram.

Great to see you enjoy this classy distillery. Here in the UK, compared to similarly aged examples of this style and quality, the value can rarely be matched. It won’t last forever. By all means, pour and drink. It’s your dram on your schedule. The special ones however, on occasion, reward your patience immeasurably. Also, I think I need to check on the GP barley, I seem to remember that’s no longer their practice. Can’t wait to drive y’all up there. And ditch the car. 😬

Hi guys great review on the glengoyne!
I have a ? Do they use golden promise barley on all 21 years from pass to newer make of the 21 year old glengoyne?Does it say on the box or bottle? Really want to try this one for a while. Thank you in advance for the reply.

Mark, Like you said I find this one more better value then the 25yr but the 25yr is also an incredible whisky which I always like to dive into. Glengoyne distillery is one of my favourites and one I always make sure to visit when I'm up in Scotland. This and the Teapot are real gems to me and always have to make sure to have a few extra bottles around. Great Review Guys and hope to have a dram with you soon!

My next bottle...when i decide to spend over $150 😄
I definitely think you guy's should have gave it at least 5-10mins before going into the review.
I also feel like my guy Mark...nailed his water content... seems like he'd found that perfect balance.
Happened to me a few times so far with different distilleries. Its damn near magical when you get that perfect balance, almost makes you not want to finish the glass 😂😂
I like to pass it around on some "Smell this, taste this... check out what i did?" Type note 😂😂😂

I always let my quality scotch sit. While I wait I have a dram of a less expensive scotch. Good things come to those who wait, and I love how the scotch make my living room smell great.
Great review and I will drink along when I watch it again.
The 21 is $170 and the 25 is $340 at Binny's in Chicago, but they always have sales which is the time to buy a dream bottle.
I poured my dram and let it rest for 20 minutes before nosing and taking my first sip and watching the review again. My bottle has been open for about 2-1/2 months. I am getting much more this time than I did when I first opened the bottle.

Great review, honest, and really nailed some key points. I'll admit that I do pour the dram and leave it with these higher end scotches, as even at a bar, a scotch like this which you'd never find at a Toronto Bar (Maybe Folly Brewpub), you're probalby looking north of $40 a dram, so letting it sit is an easy yes for me. Sit down, relax, listen to the music, and then start digg'n in. Great vid as usual gents! Rob

I got this for $144, tried it, went back and found 2 more for $131, excellent stuff. The younger bottlings 10, 12, 15, 18 are not exclusively Golden Promise anymore and are a mix of Sherry and Bourbon casks. The Cask Strength I had was an NAS 58.8% abv, natural color, non-chillfiltered and a Sherry Bomb! This 21yo beats the Macallan-style to a pulp!

Hello Dummies, love what you do - thank you! This is one of the the few 21 year old scotches I've tried and the nose is absolutely heavenly, but the palate leaves me slightly disappointed for some reason. I was glad to hear I wasn't the only one that got a bit more astringency than I was expecting from the oak tannins. Is this common for most older scotches? Maybe it's just my lack of experience and I'll come to enjoy it more down the road...for now I give my vote to the 18 year old as my favorite Glengoyne.

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  6 ปีที่แล้ว

I think some of the older scotches, depending on the casks they were in and the new male profile, tend to need some time to open up. I let this sit for over an hour and finally started to get into the depth and complexity of this scotch. It is definitely for special occasions when you can let it sit and appreciate it.

If you can find the 25 for $250, snap it up. It is north of $300 for me. As far as this one goes, it is the better value, which also makes it more accessible to keep around. The 25 isn't something that would be a regular on the shelf, more of a special bottle. Love Glengoyne and all they do. Would love to try their cask strength.

    Hey Guys:
Another Great Review, I always enjoy the detail the 4 of you bring out. I agree GLENGOYNE makes excellent whisky I have enjoyed the 12, 15, 18 and the 25. I have yet to experience the 21. I will look for it at Whisky Bar..
Tonight I am finishing my 2nd bottle of TÉ BHEAG Nan Eilean (Ch A Viug or Vig Nahn Ill oyn) Little Taste of the Island the Blended Whisky from the Isle of Skye. One of the Whiskies is Peated. Interestingly tonight I got a burnt tobacco note in my first mouthful. It was a nice twist. In previous glasses it had a sweet malt arrival with a creamy sense followed by Licorice and Peat Smoke. The Nose has a light boozy grape note.
    Keep bringing the excellent reviews.

The 21 is a really good value for the price. If you have had all the others, you should add this to your buy list. The bottle you are drinking sounds very interesting. I always enjoy hearing about some of the different blends from other countries that are blended to appeal to varying tastes in whisky throughout the world. I think it gives a fascinating insight into the palate and cuisine of the people that live there. I'm sure it appeals to my professional curiosity.

      Hey Shawn:
TÉ BHEAG is a Blended Scotch from the Isle of Skye. I enjoy it for its combination of sweet arrival and Smoky Finish. The Tobacco Note in this glass was a first, possibly due to the effects of all the air in the bottle. Here are my original Notes from my first bottle.
Swami from MALTED IN MONTREAL has done a review as well.

Blended By Praban na Linne (Prah Bawn Nah Linne) Shabeen of the Pool (small body of water) Shabeen=Roadhouse, house pub
Let it sit in the Glass 30 minutes
COLOR: Medium Reddish Brown with a number of Legs Running Slowly. Nice Ring
      NOSE: Brine, Licorice
PALETTE: Light Creamy Mouth Feel Sweet Arrival with Licorice. Peat Smoke Rises nicely as I swirl it; Mixing with the Sweetness. Some Light Pepper. Light Sweetness remains amidst the Peat Smoke.
FINISH: Light Sweetness going down; followed by Drying with Some Pepper, Briney Notes remain as I breathe along with Licorice and a Hint of Peat Smoke
This is my 2nd Glass, In My opinion, this is a Very Good Blended Peated Scottish Whiskey. The Light Sweetness on the Palette mixes nicely with BUT is Not overwhelmed by the Peat Smoke. A Flavorful combination. I would prefer a Thicker Mouth Feel from this NON-CHILL FILTERED Blend, but there is a Nice combination of Licorice Sweetness with Peat Smoke.
As an IRISH Gaelic Speaker, I greatly appreciate the significant use of SCOTTISH Gaelic in the Name and the rest of the Label. The Isle of Skye along with some of the other Scottish Islands has a small but significant Gaelic Speaking population and this Blender is Keen to uphold it, MAITH SIBH (Mah or My Shiv) Good For You (Plural)

Truth in transparency....We do get some bottles from local (although we've pretty much tapped the local market out), but we now have expanded our purchasing to other markets (online) and Chicago as one of us travels there for work frequently. And finally, we have been fortunate to have some bottles sent to us by subscribers or other 'Tubers' (STDs, Aqvavitae, etc..).
I agree we are lucky/fortunate to have tried some of the bottles / samples we have! One thing we can say is that we don't keep bottles unopened and around for too long. We buy them to enjoy them, so even if we happen across an old dusty we're gonna pop it open!!!!

OK, can't argue...absolute statements are rarely accurate! I'll wait, but more often than not I'm not giving it time intentionally. Yes, there are times that I really want to understand or personally review a scotch that I will let it stand for a period. But, what I think was meant is that most people pour a drink to drink it, not to sit an analyze it over the course of time....but your point is duly noted and appreciated! :-) ~Mark

Corey we actually have several bottles to review in the $60 and under range. We have been trying to balance people requesting more expensive bottles or gifting us bottles we wouldn’t normally have access to with everyday scotch that most people see at the store. We have several coming up from distilleries like Jura, Glen Moray, Glenmorangie, and Deanston that are everyday drinkers that will not break your wallet. We really don’t want to make anyone feel excluded. You have been watching and interacting with us for a long time and we would hate to make you or anyone feel unwelcome. I think the fact that it isn't sticky sweet makes it that much better. I good all around glass that won't break the bank.

I used to watch you guys all the time, but I don't see the point in watching reviews on scotch I will never be able to afford. You have gotten too big for me! You keep reviewing scotches that are so expensive!! Why?

Keith we have been fortunate enough to have been gifted bottles to review that are special and sometimes more expensive. We have also tried to keep our reviews, for the most part, limited to what you can buy in a liquor store. This week we released a review of a Glen Moray and we have reviews coming on several scotches from Ardbeg, Deanston, Jura, and Glenmorangie that are all around $50 and under. We try to have a wide base and while we did have several more expensive bottles recently, we have a wide array coming out soon.

Absolutely great workout to this value bottle. Your analysis to the different possibilities what a dram can do is astonishing by itself.
    I respect that very much!✔️
