The character Shame never existed prior to the TV show. When Cliff Robertson expressed an interest in playing a villain on the show, they asked which one and he said that it might be fun to play a cowboy who was very dumb and took himself very, very, very seriously.
Besides the Main Four, Shame was one of my favorite recurring Bat-Villains. His Season 3 appearance with Calamity Jan (then-wife Dina Merrill) was one of the few Batgirl stories that made sense and was written well.
I'd forgotten about him until finding an arcade with the Batman '66 pinball machine (he's got two multi-ball modes), but I've started to get reacquainted. My personal favorite was King Tut.
Now I know how to stop a stampede of cattle. Love the realism of this show unlike The Adventures Of Superman. You know I got hurt jumping off the roof top. However this is Batman, can't wait to try this. 🤪
For those who don't know this is obviously a parody on one of the most famous westerns ever made "Shane".... and from memory it includes probably the most famous line from that movie, just slightly tweaked here to "Sbame, Shame bring my radio back..." Another example, of how clever this show was and how its humour was best appreciated by adults.
My mother kept quoting this "Shame, come back" at random times and always referred back to this Batman episode we watched somewhere during the late 80's reruns. Only today it hit me that it parodies the movie "Shane".
Too Bad they didn't just tie up batman and Robin and use them as human targets. I can just imagine Shame and his men getting their guns ready to fire. And tells them theres an added bonus if you can shoot batman's cowl clear off his head.
Gracias Eric Blair ya había esperado tanto a qué me pudieran responder a mi pregunta sobre si este fue el único episodio o hubo otro más donde salió un niño o niña en este programa
What? That rattlesnake Shame said that he had the Dynamic Duo outnumbered three-and-a-half to two? No, it was certainly just 3-2. Our chivalrous and kind heroes never would have struck a lady, but it also meant that Annie Oakley could use her excellent shooting skills to bring about the defeat of Batman and Robin. Classic TV!
Niño o niña en este programa tan fabuloso de estos superhéroes que ha Sido el único que me encantará a diferencia de los que se han hecho que son totalmente una porquería
Terrible picture quality on this video. As originally broadcast, this was probably the best fight scene in the entire run of the show. The director was aiming for an old-school barroom brawl and he got it!
+Eternal Fandub Zero You ask "What is the meaning of 'Big Casino'?" Don't what it has to do with being pegged out and about to be trampled by a stampede. But the Big Casino is cancer.
love batman and robin movies i would have to agree with lil andy his response to shame saying there only play acting. yeah right play acting. your bad outlaws there superheroes you think im stupid. hes right you sure could off fooled me.
Hmm...I don't think the Joker was planning on Robin being rescued when he put Robin in the comic book printing press, and was forcing Bruce Wayne to pull the activating lever; or when he had Batman in the 'human key duplicator', and Robin in the wax spray chamber; or the Riddler when he took them for a spin; or False Face with the subway tracks; or Bookworm when he put Robin in the bell; or the Minstrel with heat lamp; or the Mad Hatter with fluoroscopic chamber; or Puzzler with the balloon...
@scooter167 Always the unanswered question. How come a Police Commish & Captian coudn't put 2 & 2 together and figure out that Batman & Robin were Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson??
To Bullhammer1100, he said, "I'll I'll tell everybody you die with your bat boots on!" That was an inside joke of a movie called, "They Died With Their Boots On!"
To Eternal Fandub Zero, when they say "the big casino," I think what they're actually saying is "cashed in their CHIPS!" I thought of something just now, maybe they were trying to be creative in avoiding the censors, because had they used, "Will Batman and Robin cash in their chips?" The censors might have thought, since bulls are involved in this death trap, that they inadvertently implied "bull chips." That would've been in bad taste, so the producers/writers changed it to "Is this the big casino?"
I'm shocked Batman was able to loosen that stake. Shame had them tied up real good (like you'd expect a cowboy to do in a rodeo). He should've been invited back more as he seemed to give them little wiggle room
Shame did return for the two part episode "The Great Escape"/"The Great Train Robbery". This is the story in which Calamity Jan and Frontier Fanny squirt Batman, Robin and Batgirl with fear gas and Shame and his gang kidnap Batgirl and use her as a hostage.
Well, sure it is - it's so easy to yank a stake out of the ground. I think all the villains knew the duo could get out of anything and they gave the guys some slack - they were challenging them - they couldn't have cared less about the crimes themselves. Catwoman, however, was the only one who really meant business. She loved Batman and couldn't have him because of the different directions they took. This comment is to be continued in the next posting - STAY TUNED!!!!!

The sidekick with the wool chaps was my father, Tim Scott.
That's cool!
Wow, Cool 😎
Very cool
Holy supporting role!!!
RIP Cliff Robertson. You'll be missed. You were a great Uncle Ben in Spiderman, a great Mr Shame in Batman and a great man in real life. :(
Younger Uncle Ben was like Richard Parker
Always cracked up when Shame scolds Rip at 0:26.. “Talking to you is like talking pig Latin to a donkey.”
Joseph, it's just too funny!
Uncle Ben had quite the opposite of a great man with responsibility vibe here.
JosephDiEgidioIII , his lecturing got boring.
Batman clearly was a great influence on him.
Funny, how they kept their hats on despite being punched lol
My favorite episode
Thie episode includes Shame's henchmen Messy James and Rip Snortin'. Too funny 😁.

Shane come back Shane!
My mother kept quoting this "Shame, come back" at random times and always referred back to this Batman episode we watched somewhere during the late 80's reruns. Only today it hit me that it parodies the movie "Shane".
"Watch your tongue there, Bat-fella!!"
"Pretty soon, I'm gonna shoot this trusty six-shooter of mine and when I do,...Wait...I wonder if I should just...Nah, that would be too easy."
He gave them a sporting chance. Batman used his ingenuity to escape. When he is tied up and cannot get to his bat knife in his utility belt.
Don't you wish all old West fights had BAM POW ZAP. Lol
Sure do! This show was great!
How many times do you have to hit someone until they're knocked out.
Quite a lot of times apparently lol
"Holy matador, then!" Holy encyclopedic knowledge, Batman! Maybe ACME should've hire him find Carmen Sandiego. 😁
Que bueno es saber que hay aún a quienes les sigue agradando estos programas de esos años esos eran los mejores programas
The best show on TV ever! No other has come even close.
Right! Love this show!
Robin so gay. Both bulging.
If you freeze it at 3:36 you can see the circle that the director or crew drew on the sand for Cliff Robertson to stand in for the camera angle
It was a pleasure to see Batman & Robin get defeated and fucked up !
Yes
@@lorenzoarteaga5929 especially the Boy Wonder
This guy Shame almost looks physically like the Riddler.
Too Bad they didn't just tie up batman and Robin and use them as human targets. I can just imagine Shame and his men getting their guns ready to fire. And tells them theres an added bonus if you can shoot batman's cowl clear off his head.
Best batfight in the series!

AVGN brought me here 😎
Hendrix Jimmie
Same
Is this the fabled ass-drag scene?
Robin is tied up and says, "Batman, more, more!"
kinky!
Should Shame have teamed up with the Bully of Dry Gulch, Gunner Flinch from the Adventures of Superman?😂
Shame on you Shame
the little boy "andy" is widely popular child actor of the 60's and 70's Eric Shea.
Shame should've been the more skilled fighter of all the villains to be a closer match to Batman.

All this time I thought it was Shane, not Shame.
Hi Uncle Ben.
MARVEL IDOIT
This was great. The dialog, video quality, performances, extremely long fight scene. I forgot how funny it was.
I missed him a lot today
Niño o niña en este programa tan fabuloso de estos superhéroes que ha Sido el único que me encantará a diferencia de los que se han hecho que son totalmente una porquería
Cliff Robertson was great in this as shame!!!!
I think Aunt May learned to say his name to Doc Ock
no matter I liked it so much when the Annie Oakie shot the chandelier on the heads of the dynamic duo
She was very happy to put an end to their fighting against them.
It was so hot
Shame on you, Shame, for not using your six-shooter to shoot Batman and Robin!
The gun on their Eve POS by calamity Jane's is the western ricochet rifle
Viendo que no recuerdas muy bien sobre lo que pregunte gracias por tu respuesta te agradezco
Batman comes on every Saturday night on MeTV, but, this episode has yet to come on. I'd like to see it.
This was on a few weeks ago. Batman's actions and his explanation of Bulls eyesight made me laugh.
Beans & Cornbread!
Holy Pamplona, Batman!!!
I would love to roleplay this
@Hiker Girl yes we can
@Hiker Girl let’s do it
@Hiker Girl yes I have Skype. It’s easy
@Hiker Girl it’s okay
@Hiker Girl so ? Skype
Was this filmed with a calculator?
No, a toaster!
Poor Batman and robin
Nice and sleepy

Shame is Uncle Ben from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies.
Guess he decided to retire from a life of crime :P
@@benwasserman8223 guess having to take care of his younger brother's son, Peter, and May Reilly's great moral compass turned him from his life crime.
Yeah, we know
I would have loved to have seen batgirl staked out like batman and robin!
That would be awesome!
5:08 Of course it has.
Imagine John Wayne in this fight scene
Ya que no recuerdo haber visto salir a niños y niñas salir seguido en este programa de los sesentas

Creo que si. No recuerdo ningun otro.
I could roleplay this
Shame is awesome!
Now that is one cool cowboy!
5:11 I guess this is what Mike was talking about?
Wow what' loud noise

Does anybody know which Western movie the soundtrack during the fight scene comes from?
@scooter167 Always the unanswered question. How come a Police Commish & Captian coudn't put 2 & 2 together and figure out that Batman & Robin were Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson??
That same commissioner couldn't figure out that Batgirl was his own daughter.
“Aft gyne allay?” What language was he speaking?
Was this filmed in Tooele?
Ole...
Batman misquoted Burns. It's: "The best laid plans of man gang aft agley."
RIP Adam West
What is the meaning of "Big Casino"?
Shame, where are you, Shame? Shame, where are you?
To Bullhammer1100, he said, "I'll I'll tell everybody you die with your bat boots on!" That was an inside joke of a movie called, "They Died With Their Boots On!"
Yes, and it became such a classic "Western line." What cowboy would not have appreciated it?
After knocking Them unconscious why didn't shame tie them up and remove Batman's cowl..
scooter167 Because not everybody cares about his secret identity, that’s why.
At 0:40 seconds Rip Snortin takes out a fake post

Staked to the ground! Oh, that's MUCH more 'sporting'!
Who wants to roleplay
Shane talks like George Bush
4:33-5:42 My favorite Batman cliffhanger music.
omg. This video has some horribly high pitched hum.
Was anyone else alarmed that the kid walked in with two guns!?😂
Lucy Keegan , no.
As a kid, always had a play gun belt. Friends would play cowboys!

In the comics, the only one who was considered a better escape artist than Batman was Mr. Miracle.
When Batman captured Shame, did Batman give Shame a Horse so that he would turn into a good Cowboy?
3 and a half
why is it looking slow motion
Hey that is a stupid Batman's villain name Shame but what is he supposed to be Bane?
+CubanPete1990 no it's a play on the western film Shane
Bane wasn't even created until the 1990's.
