    I came here to learn, but instead I laughed so hard I had to change my lungs for a new pair only to find out that there where dead mice in them. Wow good thing I had a 2nd pair of lungs around, let me get my apple Jack's and aaaaaw life smells good with a hint of dead mice lol.

    Very helpful! I needed to remove my glove box because my phone had fallen behind it. This video showed me how to do so, and also showed me that there are worse glove box problems than losing your phone -- such as dead mice! That really puts things in perspective!

      I searched for a vid to get into the filter because.... I ...have "that smell" right now!!
      Dang mouse been in my car for weeks. Chewing napkins in the glove compartment, and leaving turds in there! I heard him running over my head even! Until I placed poison (knowing it'd prob die in here smh), I see I got em. --That smell is horrid, man.
      This vid was the very first, and I already knew what the 'surprise' would be! Wasnt expecting TWO lol!
      Thank you!

    Thank you so much for that! Literally helped so much to do this on our own rather than pay a disgruntled mechanic (no offense! ha!) to do it! Thanks for a great super simple video. Glad we didn't have to smell what you were going through!~

    Great Mike, your the only one I watched who said to press in on the side tabs to the filter cover. My right side gizmo fell forward into bowels of the front, after I thot I had it on correctly. Can't reach it to get it out.

    I use this video about a year ago thank you you're one of the only people to do any Chevy Trax videos.
    Do you know if I have to take the whole dash apart to put in the climate control panel? Aka the panel with the knobs for hot cold ventilation and such.

    Hey Mike, I was totally surprised too as I was not expecting to see mice in there. And you are right that decaying mice leave an awful smell. I'm glad you found them and with that scented filter and oil, that smell will be gone in short order. 😀👍

    Thank you my current garage just told me next visit, I have to change this filter and they quoted $75 for the cabin air filter and $46 for the engine filter. I don't know if that's fair prices or because I'm female 🤔

  • @ItsMePaulyC

    Thanks Mike, I've seen a few videos of yours out there and subscribed! I had a Chevrolet Cruze which had a totally different setup than this to take out the air filter. It was a lot more complicated but this will help a lot when I change out the filter in my 2021 Chevrolet Trax!

    On my mother's 2017 Trax the air will only blow out the foot vents. The control panel works because it shuts off the recirculate when put on defrost but the air keeps on pointing only at feet.

  • @chucknix1129
    @chucknix1129 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a few years ago, lots of panels would need to be pulled to dig that nest from deeper within the air hander. That is one of the benefits I have seen with the increase of cabin air filtration. Also, for lingering odors, essential oils dripped onto the air filter will help the initial breeze while the activated charcoal infused into the filter has a bit of time to work. Good vid. I see lots of vehicles coming in for lack of air flow due to filters not being changed. Many are just unaware that they have the filter.

    • @TheDisgruntledMechanic
      @TheDisgruntledMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How bout your house furnace filter Mike? Done that one? FYI don't buy the expensive filter here. Usually good fiberglass is the best. And if you want to do a video on that I'll check out your setup and advise on the best filter.

    I bought a used car a couple years ago and the blower motor didn't work. Pulled the old blower motor out to replace it and found a mouse nest which was keeping the squirrel cage from spinning. The nest also was laying on top of the blower resistor and it was lucky the car didn't catch fire. The only difference in my case was there was no smell associated with the car. Sometimes the best repairs are free!

    I've got a brand new 2020 Chevy Trax I park it outside away from any tall weeds or landscaping cover. Recently I discovered my cabin filter was chewed up a bit and a big pile of polyfil like yours had on top of it. Hardly any poop or urine. I also checked my air filter and I had leaves and some polyfil inside the air intake box before the filter. Not even 20,000 miles and I'm confused why mice are wanting in it.

  • @bufordmaddogtannen514

    Very helpful, How can you keep the mice out of the filter? I've heard moth balls or Irish hills soap/body wash?

    • @TheDisgruntledMechanic
      @TheDisgruntledMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mothballs will kill your nostrils! I buy lilac or peppermint oil and put just a few drops on the filter. which ever smell you like you use. It will make the vehicle smell nice too and mice supposedely don't like it and stay away.!

    We have a winter mouse problem here too! I live across from a commercial farm field! The mice have plenty all grow season long! But in the winter, they come into my house! The heat, dog food, shelter form the cold!! I have mouse traps set up all over!! And occasionally get a rogue mouse during the off season! (I constantly check during mouse season) There is nothing else like the aroma of deceased mouse!! Once you get that smell in your nose, you'll never forget it!! You'll want to rub fresh dog poop, under your nose, to help get rid of the smell! I can almost smell the aroma of recently deceased mouse, before the aroma of recently deceased mouse starts spreading! You'll notice next time, (if there is a next time, and with mice, THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME) and get after clearing them out, before the problem aroma offends the olfactory senses!
    BEST OF LUCK WITH THE SMELL!!

    HAHAHA! Mouse motel! That fan was blowing dead mouse stench straight into the cab! I can imagine!
    I live in the country too, so this is a daily occurrence here - they're either in my house or in my vehicles! I had one die in the wall, of course, just INCHES from my pillow! That was the last time I used d-CON in the house! Stunk like that for 3 weeks ...
    Just pulled a pile of hickory nuts out of my neighbor's motorcycle. Thing would start & run great, but fell on it's face with anything past 1/8th throttle. He said he checked the air filter, and it was clean (but he didn't check INSIDE the filter!). I suspected carburetor issues when he was explaining it to me, but when he brought the bike over and I saw black smoke pouring out the pipes, I figured she couldn't breathe. I was right! As soon as I yanked the air filter, I saw the problem. Filter was PACKED solid with nest, and stacked all the way from the air filter, up the intake tube & into an expansion chamber, were at least 70 shelled hickory nuts! That wasn't a mouse that did that - more than likely a chipmunk. Still a furry rodent either way, and they all stink when dead! :D
