[TUTORIAL] How to tie your HAKAMA for Aikido, Kendo, Iaido & other traditional Japanese martial arts

In this tutorial, Christian Hausegger shows you how to tie the hakama correctly. The hakama is the traditional Japanese riding pants worn by budokas over the traditional training suit (dōgi). In traditional martial arts such as aikido, kendo and iaido, it is still worn today and is part of the training clothing of every student and master in traditional schools such as Takeda Ryu Nakamura Ha.

This tying is very similar to Aikido. In ZNKR Iaidō and Kōryu we tie I differently.

Hola Christian,
habe deinen Kanal vor einiger Zeit entdeckt, da ich mich theoretisch mit Iaido beschäftige und das seit Jahrzehnten, aber nie die Gelegenheit hatte es zu praktizieren, da kein Dojo es in meiner erreichbaren Nähe anbot.
Ich komme eigentlich aus dem Judo und Jiu Jitsu.
Verrückter Weise, hier auf unserer kleinen Insel in Las Palmas habe ich nunmehr einen Sobukai Dojo entdeckt, der Takeda Nakamura Ha. Unser Sensei ist Mario A. Alonso.
Nach langem Warten ist nunmehr meine Ausstattung aus Kyoto eingetroffen. Werde mich erstmal mit den einzelnen Ausrüstungsstücken beschäftigen, bevor ich das Training beginne.
Habe auf meinem Kanal ein Unboxing vorgestern hochgeladen 😉. Allerdings kein fachtechnisches, da sich mein Kanal mehr mit der "Genusswelt" beschäftigt.
Werde da wohl später noch mehr ins Einzelne gehen, wenn dort Interesse über einem Einsteiger in diese wunderbare Welt besteht.

No you don't stand half naked in front of us. You are wearing normal zubon trousers that were explicitly designed by Jigoro Kano as western style trousers (from pantalon) to show that Judo was a modern art that incorporates western training principles like pedagogy inside of it. Later these style of pants were widespread then in most Budo. But as pants, not underwear. Japanese underpants like fundoshi look totally different and more like a loincloth. Of course "old school" would be to wear nothing at an under the Hakama

This specific sentence was meant a little bit sarcastic 😉.
BUT: You are right, that traditional underwear looks different to modern Budo trousers, but in our opinion, a complete traditional Budo outfit includes wearing a Hakama. Do you agree? 👍🏻
