Chris Cornell playing a soon to be released song from a companion album to the movie 12 Years a Slave, "Misery Chain." October 18, 2013 at the Nob Hill Masonic Center in San Francisco.
Sadly I only started listening to Chris, Soundgarden and Audioslave in the last 3 years. What an absolute talent and warm soulful man he was. So sad that he’s no longer here, but his incredible music and voice live on.😢
A man alone with a guitar cannot generate such magic. But Chris Cornell does it easily. This live version is incredible. These materials are historical and quality works of art. and they must be spread eternally.
I love hearing him sing this like this, you hear his beautiful voice with so much emotion. The voice that brings tears to your eyes. Will never forget hearing him sing live, I was speechless and had tears, it was a special moment. RIP Chris ❤
Best song of his I’ve ever heard. Classically relevant lyrics with that old Jazz progression that reminds us of Billies agony in Strange Fruit. I’ve got to learn to play and sing this one… as an homage to Chris and as a wisdom keeper for the species 😂
I was searching to see if anyone has attempted to cover this song, with Joy Williams singing. Always a big Cornell fan, love the finality of his voice at the end of his phrases. I love this song - the mesh of major to minor keys. I can practice singing Joy's accompaniment along with him! :) FANTASTIC, Mr Cornell!
Eh, being a musician I have an admiration for people that can sing great harmonies, Joy Williams is one of the best I've ever heard. I like both versions. This one shows the way Chris wrote it in it's purest form. But layering with great harmonies adds a depth that you just can't achieve with a single melody line. If you're an Alice in Chains fan you know what I mean. The live version on Letterman, Joy sings harmony that few people can touch and it's a testament to how great the song is and how great a songwriter Chris was.
I feel silly, having gone to the Theater to see 12 years a slave, expecting to hear this song- now that I realize it was written after. I knew the song before seeing the movie! I was disappointed that day to not hear Chris's voice while at the theater, but the movie was phenomenal! Great song too! Chis is such a talented songwriter!
I really don’t listen to lyrics much in music, but Chris always has my attention with his. This is a really really important message that oppression still exists now in more ways than one. We look back on certain things in history and realize how bad some things were, and are still doing things just as bad now, sometimes not realizing it. “...Will they speak of us well? God only knows what those words will be...” the future will see us the same way. That’s my interpretation anyway. Also not to mention his chords and the way he puts his songs together is so beautiful and forever unique ❤️ RIP
It was given to him by Jeff Buckley's mother, Chris and Jeff were friends and he actually helped her piece together the tracks to release Jeff's "Sketches for My Sweetheart The Drunk."
Prob the most underated and underappreciated song of modern music.
I appreciate this song to the fullest, and is one of Chris's best. He is brilliant .... and is sorely missed.
Thank God 🙏 you 💕😭💕

Probably the best lyrics Chris ever wrote

Deep understanding of human condition and expressing it in such a beautiful way.

One of his best live recorded performances. Incredible

I was there. Great show. Bitchin' seats at a fairly small venue. Good times.
meu sonho!
I love this song. I think it works better without Joy Williams, Chris's godly voice is more than enough to carry this song.
Soundtallica in Chains

HI
What's up with the red phone? Bat Phone?
It was given to him by Jeff Buckley's mother, Chris and Jeff were friends and he actually helped her piece together the tracks to release Jeff's "Sketches for My Sweetheart The Drunk."
And this folks is the reason he was murdered for exposing child sex trafficking.
Amazing!!Sounds like preaching the end of the world mixed with disappearing act!
