Mastering is extremely underrated. Not to knock on myself but when I mix I wait till I think it sounds great..... once I master it myself I'm shocked when I go back to the original mix and say to myself WTF I sucked lol A great mastering job can make a what you and the band think is a good mix a billion times better, at least from my experience. Mastering gear is expensive but once you learn how to use it it makes wonders. Every time I'm done with a master the clients freak out because we ( myself included ) didn't think it could get that much better. Sone ppl say if it's mixed perfectly it doesn't have to be mastered. My question is what's perfect? A good recording can sound polish but I've learned through my own experiences unless it's truly perfect mastering will always make it better . Im so glad I decided to learn this art myself honestly.
Mastering is so underrated and very rarely showcased if at all. 90% of the gear is gear we have never heard of and learning about them is like Christmas morning. Thank you Andrew for featuring these under-appreciated but so important and critical mastering studios.
I am Gideon Ricardo from Dj Tomer & Ricardo and we've been working with Maor Appelbaum for 2 years and we really can't say enough about how much more Maor brings out of our tracks. An absolute artist of mastering world. Bravo.
In mastering I l love how there is a battle for every half DB. I love how He is taking every half DB seriously and inventing his own tools to get those diminishing gains
The best mastering engineer I haver worked with! I engineered an album for a norwegian hardcore-band. We were superpleased with our mix, and he was amazing on both the dialogue in order to establish a common goal on what it should sound like. And when he did his magic on the uad based inthebox-mix everything sounded super organic and packed with analogue warmth! So pleased to have gotten the chance to this Top dog in the metal world! I highly recomend using his services to acheive a Top level production 🫶
Wow my head hurts, I don’t think I’ve ever concentrated on a YT video in my life like I did on this one. Definitely a specialised art form. Full credit to you both … Thanks 😊
Maor is one of the absolute best in the game. His passion is unparalleled. I've worked with many major mastering engineers at this point in my career and Maor is by far my favorite. Highly recommended.
Is this a studio tour or a cooking show? 😂 One particular thing about mastering studios... there's never a screen in front of the engineer. It's 100% ears here. I also love how big and chunky every single knob is. Looks like an easy space to work in. And that mastering console is INTENSE!
BTW- I love EVERYTHING about this studio. But 2 things about this studio: among all the gear you just did a GREAT job of explaining, I'd never heard of A SINGLE ONE OF THEM. To NOT see a visual monitor, know that you're relying COMPLETELY AND ONLY on your ears is awesome... And to see some good ole KRK'S there to check your Masters brings me a sense of comfort, knowing those are the exact same monitors I'm checking my mixes on in my MUCH less vast and SERIOUSLY humble home studio when compared to this one! You da man, MAOR! Keep it up!
It's true. I know some of the typical mastering gear. Manley Massive Passives, Pultecs, GML 8200s, Neve EQs. But this kit is esoteric. I wonder if it's cheap ;) Only thing is, if it's your own studio, I'd much prefer to invest in building up a production / recording studio like Andrew Master's. Because then you can use it for your own productions, and it's just more fun. Then send mixes to guys like Maor.
This was sooo cool. Many people don't like to share what equipment they use or how they use it, but Maor was completely open and very professional. Continued success to him in his endeavors. I own the OVEN plugin and appreciate it even more after seeing the care that went into its production.
Just 4 of the 20 Ovens in existence, chillin' in a rack... I'd expect no less from the co-creator. The plug-in has become one of my go-to's for multiple chains. Love Applebaum's room, too! Goals...
So excited about this tour! I just spoke to Maor last week about mastering my new single. Great guy!! Deep talent. This video was a special treat knowing my music will soon go through that monster rig. Thanks. Your content is always so well done. please keep it coming
This man has not only the tools of a master chef seeking the perfect Umami for any dish/track, but also that of a renaissance sculptor always cutting the sveltest form. Tip of my hat.
Refreshing to not see a computer or a large monitor front and center. Very pure. At the same time I don't know what to think about that, lol....... a fascinating introspective and great knowledge in this episode. Well done.
Maor! This is INCREDIBLE! I REALLY hope I can have you master my album. Pre-pro is done, we're about to start tracking! I'll let ya know when we're mixing. You've REALLY come a long way; it's been AWESOME watching you come into your own as one of the SINGLE BEST Mastering Engineers in the business!
i was supposed to watch a nice simple video about a studio before making dinner. some how i payed attention to every word this man said as if i was back in school. mastering is a very deep skill to have but seeing a mastering engineer with this much knowledge about gear is pretty impressive.
Spectacular! You're the master of studio tours. Just when I thought I have seen most of it, you come with these spectacular video's! My favorite take aways are the: the amazing studio, the fact that Maor has equipments to his own name, and the way the knobs on the HW's are named (for a master Chef). Btw I do have the Oven. Only, it is a picture on my computer from BrainWorx. Btw, I would like to see a studio tour @ BrainWorx.
Would have loved to hear something going through various pieces of gear. He's like the old Abbey Road engineers designing original gear or modding gear, that makes him a unique asset to mastering. Hugely impressed!!
That was a cool ride....through the unknown. I also have no clue how these guys work, the mastering masters (hah no pun), I mean you can do some in your DAW but, all that gear..., the ears this man must have! It is totally magical fairy dust...
Taylor Deupree is another cool freelance mastering engineer with a nice studio (12k Mastering) who is also an amazing artist, record label owner (12k) and designer/photographer. He's prolific in the electronic music scene and interesting in collaboration (Ryuchi Sakamoto RIP, Arovane etc...). Probably would make a great interview too, he's a thoughtful reflective artist and a true professional too.
Andrews please info sweetwater to let us access their website worldwide like it used to be. Not everyone lives in the USA or Canada. Some purchases gear through family members living on that side of the world by searching and forwarding link/s to gear/s they want. Used to access your website in Africa but, if not mistaken, starting from last month i stopped accessing it. Please make let them make it available worldwide.
Me in 2023. Is there a plugin version? Can i do this in the box? Wow amazing skill to use all that hardware. Thanks for making this video. Awesome gear.
Same reason every studio has a mid-range set of monitors. You don't just reference on one device. I reference my hd650's, soundbar, monitor speakers, Mixcube, and AV7'S, this gives me an idea of how a track will likely sound on every conceivable device besides the 10k+ setups
I'm 1:21 into the video and just saw he had an atomic squeeze box and was like oh yeah, I'm watching this. Before I even get into it, I bet he really knows gear.
Andrew wow who knew this Mastering equipment existed??? Fantastic interview and great education. Respect to Mastering engineers out there. It’s a whole other studio experience. Thanks for finding and getting this info. You da man!!!
Great video about my dear friend Maor!! Truly one of the best in the whole business today and I LOVE what it sounds like after he does his magic. He mastered my latest Radioactive album called X.X.X that I did in parts with my mentor Mutt Lange...and Mutt's top class guy Olle Romo mixed it....and of course started using Maor for other work after :)
those PMC IB2 are set up incorrectly...(according to PMC company), 1 -those monitors should not be tilted, they are constructed that way, not like other monitors, they benefit from less phase distortion if they face the listener without tilt, and secondly - way too wide, which means you lose punch and information in M channel.
What's your favorite takeaway? I forgot to mention 15% off all Drum Sample Shop samples pack with code MASTERS at checkout. Happy Monday!

The craziest mastering engineer i’ve ever seen. And i’ve seen a lot! Amazing video! Real GAS!!!

THE most amazing set up!! So much custom made goodness! So many options and each one top top class. Incredible!
What a wonderfully humble, and generous guy….

Never saw so many different and working AD & DA converters in one studio. This is madness! 🙂
Maor is one of the absolute best in the game. His passion is unparalleled. I've worked with many major mastering engineers at this point in my career and Maor is by far my favorite. Highly recommended.
I've met Maor several times and this is the first time I've seen him without ear plugs in. 🙂

I love that he took the time to breakdown what each unit does awesome video!
Maor is hands down the man… don’t let his humble nature fool you, he’s the real deal.
It's a good Monday when I fire up the Tube and see a 44 minute Andrew Masters video uploaded 😎
my guy!
This is the best one ☝🏾 keep on the mastering side for a second please!!!!!!🙏🏾

Nice. Love my JCF Latte also! Amazing setup.
What an insane set up! What detail and sophistication…mind boggling…..JPMusic
This man has not only the tools of a master chef seeking the perfect Umami for any dish/track, but also that of a renaissance sculptor always cutting the sveltest form. Tip of my hat.
Maor has mastered the last 2 singles my band Verona Lights released and he did an amazing job!!
very cool! The smoker could add to the cooking theme
deep fryer?
Great video. Maor is such a great guy too. I've spoken with him several times and he's always super down to earth.
Exited for this one!!

Maor is an incredibly nice guy & one of best Mastering Engineers period. His work has its own thumbprint & can't not be replicated ITB.
Maor knows his stuff, as you can see. Very deep and cool cat. Love his work.
It looks so peaceful
SO MANY of my questions were answered today!
Thanks, Andrew!
This episode was excellent really enjoyed it. The use of the mastering tools and why explained brilliantly.
What a beautiful space. Mastering is definitely a mystery, lol.
This was AWESOME! Thank you for this interview… #inspiring
Damn awesome and totally unique. As you say, go to 10 mastering suites and you will find 10 wildly different setups.
This one is so good dude! So much clarity and generosity from this Jedi Master 🙏

Waaaaoooo........ nice video.....❤❤❤❤ Make a video on Minimum requirement of Analog Gear for Mastering....plz🙏
Great video! very nice to see! lml
This Man Is Crazy Most Of His Equipment Is His Equipment Like Litteraly WOW!!!!
He’s been in the industry for ages and has done countless albums. The gear I own is crazy because I’ve never made a dime 😢

KRK V6 S4's...and I didn't expect to see those in this room.
Probably for crap speaker referencing.
Me in 2023. Is there a plugin version? Can i do this in the box? Wow amazing skill to use all that hardware. Thanks for making this video. Awesome gear.
Digging the cheap KRKs. 😎
Nice Maor!!
Oh my that FCS Saturator clipper.
Oh my everything.
fuck yeah looking forward to this one
yeah!
I really wish you would of asked him the reason for having the KRK Rokits Up There
Same reason every studio has a mid-range set of monitors.
You don't just reference on one device. I reference my hd650's, soundbar, monitor speakers, Mixcube, and AV7'S, this gives me an idea of how a track will likely sound on every conceivable device besides the 10k+ setups
When is the Smoker coming out? I heard you can pick between apple wood, hickory or mesquite settings.
There is only one type of music that everybody listen to in 2023 from 8 to 80yo and that is Hiphop !
I'm 1:21 into the video and just saw he had an atomic squeeze box and was like oh yeah, I'm watching this. Before I even get into it, I bet he really knows gear.
I also got excited when I saw the magic death eye. He is like me and likes boutique dealers, instead of the mainstream stuff.
What a nice Guy ( yes, of course U2 Andrew ;) ! But what about these 2nd pair of Speakers, are they KRK V-Series? ( I ask for a nerdy friend of mine)?
Was a point in the video, I did not know is he was a chef or a mastering e. … great video anyway
Andrew wow who knew this Mastering equipment existed??? Fantastic interview and great education. Respect to Mastering engineers out there. It’s a whole other studio experience. Thanks for finding and getting this info. You da man!!!
Great Video!
What KRK Monitors is he using? Model size?
Look like KRK V6 S4's.
RE FCS (Foote Control Systems) it seems like Roger isn't available for business anymore :(
Love my PS4 compressor from him
What happened to Foote Control Systems? Their website is down for a long time, I'm worried something happened to the company or Roger Foote.
No Alesis 3630?
😂
Great video about my dear friend Maor!!
Truly one of the best in the whole business today and I LOVE what it sounds like after he does his magic.
He mastered my latest Radioactive album called X.X.X that I did in parts with my mentor Mutt Lange...and Mutt's top class guy Olle Romo mixed it....and of course started using Maor for other work after :)
ozone 5 gang
URM brought me here.... by way of the ever so random ( but not this time) TH-cam Algorizzay.
Did he skip over that Weiss eq? So much gear, so little time. 🙏🙏
wait, does that mean you can come in on one converter and go out of a different converter on the mastering console?
Yep
So that's gear for $100k in that main console only 😱
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Is someone farting? Listen at 5:55 and 6:50
haha
Throat noises. The lav mic is right in his neck.
Not on Sweetwater or Guitar Center.

spoiler Alert : Ferrari in the Room ! 😆
A few more mastering consoles. Manly backbone.
Dangerous liaison.
Dutch audio. Crookwood audio.
SPL audio.
Skull hoodie anybody ?
Backround music is distracting to me
great video!
Fart @5:59??
Love none trappless gear.
No before and after demos, than just looking at an expensive space heater..
Kind of how a tour works
@@AndrewMasters tour some results, next time...
@@jmac2050 click a different video, maybe one that says mastering comparison /shootout / demo. You clicked a free video titled studio tour.
