    • @somexp12

      The prohibition against homosexuality is one of the few parts of the law that Paul reaffirms. In fact, the Romans 1 condemnation is so harsh that it arguably would've condemned a gay Paul even if he abstained entirely. Romans 1 seems to imply that even having the attraction is a direct result of a determined rebellion, so it implies one is already quite evil.

    I'm a Muslim and there's no secret about what we consider Paul to be but this is probably the first time I disagreed with the assessment made by the respected Rabbi Singer about things related to Christianity.
    You are more than likely aware that there is a passage in Romans 1, one of Paul's confirmed letters, where he specifically condemns homosexuality and calls it "unnatural." Even if he was lying here, still it's still a point that can be raised to oppose what was said here in this video and be considered valid. And you know very well this would cause nothing but offense to Christians and it's all unnecessary.
    Wouldn't the more appropriate argument, supported by Paul's epistles, be that He hates the law because he considered it to be too many to keep track of and so pointless?
    The truth that has real evidence at hand is more than enough to defeat falsehood. There's no need for speculations.

      I don't care about offending people with truth. But you are spot on - this was absolute speculation. Pretty sloppy in my view. Romans was an authentic Pauline text, but if we look at others both authentic a pseudepigraphal they do comdemn homosexuality and that is consistent with the real Paul and the fake Paul's.... which btw as an atheist I disagree with. But the point is, in all these things no matter what ones bias is, one should remain objective. The Rabbi might not agree with or dislike Paul and that is fine, I don't like the Mosaic law, but I wouldn't just make stuff up about it with wild speculation.

    • @georgecurinii3930
      @georgecurinii3930 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Paul does not condemn homosexuality in Romans 1, there is a synthesis of the book "Wisdom of Solomon", a book that emphasizes the difference between the "unrighteousness of the Jews" and the sinful nations. The text is put as a contrast, in epideictic (Aristotelian) language precisely so that in chapter 2 Paul will have more power to judge the Jews. So, it is not Paul who condemns homosexuality, but the traditionalist Jews whom Paul now kicks ass to the ground, telling them that "they do the same things" and that "there is no difference between a Jew and a non-Jew" because they are all way.

    • @adilabdurahman5846
      @adilabdurahman5846 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@georgecurinii3930 "Wisdom of Solomon" is not a canonical Christian Scripture. So it generally means absolutely nothing to Christians so that it's not even logical to bring into the conversation.
      The point is that there's no need to give out nearly unfounded speculations that's barely going to have any effect on Christians as they can easily dismiss them especially when there's is a ton of evidence from his confirmed writings that He clearly distorted the meanings of some of the passages from the Old Testament, as we've seen the respected Rabbi point out several times before. These evidences are enough to have more impact on attentive Christian.

    This doesn't make much sense, given the content of Paul's letters. He may have objected to the law as such, but the prohibition against homosexuality was one of the very few parts of the law that he reaffirmed. He condemns it more than once. Heck, he condemns it in a way that even an abstaining homosexual never would. Even if a gay person considered it wrong and steadfastly refused to act on it, it is still highly doubtful they would have condemned in the manner of Romans 1, because this passage has a very strong accusation explaining how Paul thinks people become gay to begin with. That the reason they even have the attraction is a result of determined rebellion against God. If Paul was gay, he wouldn't have been able to escape his own accusation even by abstaining entirely.

    • @somexp12
      @somexp12 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Kaddywompous Sure, but there are more typical ways this cliche manifests. The closeted gay anti-gay would more typically be finding and reacting to imaginary closet cases under every rock and branch. It's a matter of trying to redirect hostility away from themselves by appearing to take charge of it. Such people would appear quite sensitive to secret homosexuality, because they're actually reacting with hostility to things they find attractive or titillating. They notice a reaction in themselves and then cover it up with hostility.
      What Paul does, on the other hand, is *_add fuel_* to others' hostility. He invents new reasons to hate gay people. For a closet case to do this would simply be increasing the risk to himself. If Paul were gay, I'm guessing even his unconscious would've thought been uncomfortable with this. This seems more the behavior of someone who has depersonalized his target, so he doesn't feel or experience the actual impact of his venomous accusations. Gay people, for Paul, are alien monsters that he's completely unable to relate to.

    🙏🏻🙏🏻💐💐I am a member of the Baha’i Faith and not a Christian, but what you are considering as “preponderance of evidence” is nothing but conjectures. You even have admitted that in your original post about Rabbi Tovia conjecturing. The fact is that Conjecture ≠ evidence. If we take your conjecture to be evidence then we have far better and more real evidences to conclude that King David was descended from Lot’s daughters who had committed major incest with their father--a complete no no according to (Leviticus 18:7).
    Rabbi David Rosenfeld even agrees that:
    ….”reading in Genesis the story of Lot’s daughters who bore children from him and begat the nations of Amon and Moab. It then struck me that since King David’s great-grandmother was Ruth the Moabite, it means that in some way this very immoral nation entered one of the most important families in Israel.”
    Rabbi David Rosenfeld continues by stating:
    “The nations of Amon and Moab were founded on incest. It seems peculiar that Moab of all nations played such a great role in creating the House of David - and ultimately the Messiah son of David.”
    There are far worse examples in Tanakh that can take the whole line of the prophets into a questionable immoral landscape and even God himself, than what some people have attempted to conjecture about the New Testament historical figures. So, the conjectures or picking on Paul are just conjectures and not evidence. They are opinions of those who are merely antagonistic to the cause of Christ and have attempted for many centuries to undermine any aspect of Christianity that they can put their hands on.
    Even if we were to take your conjecture at its face value without concrete historical evidence, we can be well-assured that even if Paul had homosexual propensities, he had most certainly decided to resist and overcome those carnal urges and at the end, gave his life for the cause of Christ or at least he had accepted major persecutions for Christ’s sake. And if that’s the case, then as far as Paul’s inner life is concerned, this would in fact be accounted as an exemplary selfless life for all to follow and not a negative thing.

    Rabbi I have no skin in this game, I'm not a Christian. Though this seems like a *massive* leap. Most scholars I understand see Paul and Jesus as Jewish Apocalypticisists. If you held the world view that Jesus was coming back any day and we are living in the end times which the authentic Pauline letters do - then it kinda makes sense to stay celibate. Paul mainly condemns homosexuality in great detail in his authentic writings. Surely, it is more likely he would put it in the realms of pork and the like. I understand this is just conjecture but thus has to be taken with a grain of salt.

    💐💐💐💐There is absolutely no difference in the inner essence and in the inner meaning between Paul’s statement in Romans 10:6-8 and Deuteronomy 30:11-14. Put them side by side on your computer screen and read both of them and ask yourself whether there are any differences found in the inner essence of the meaning between those two verse. There is none! The inner essential objective in both verses is one and the same. I do not see why is there so much complaining about Paul.
    The last part of the verse which you are complaining about Paul omitting it which says: “so you can do it”, why be so bitter about this. Paul did not quote whole thing about “the word”, “so you can do it”, because to Paul or to any clear-headed person it is obvious that the word of God is already assumed and is meant to be taken into action, hence, “so you can do it”. So why would Paul want to add the last part of the verse when it’s fully clear that it is not just reading the word but acting on the word which is automatically assumed by Paul. Two thousand years ago no one of a humble birth and social status had extra money or time or resources to waste over few words that are already assumed in the verse. Taking out few words here and there which does not change anything in the original verse does not mean that Paul was on purpose trying to cut out different parts of various verses from Tanakh. God forbid!

    I'm of the belief that Paul was just an unusual fella who rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. All of that traveling by foot, preaching in new towns, etc. Being insistent and disagreeing w/ established figures. He always reminded of Michaelangelo who was by all accounts a miserable person who nevertheless persisted. A lot of these figures lived w/out comfort.
    I'm a Christian but I watch this channel, among many others where they debate or attempt to dismantle the New Testament. I still believe, but I am always happy to hear (educated) people talk about the inconsistencies between the Gospels, etc.
    As long as they are well read like Tovia Singer is, I'll listen to the content. I like that Tovia Singer has read and learned about the Gospels to a degree thag many priests have not.

As a Christian I was struck with the regard women are given by Jews. Certainly the tone of the Bible books in the Old Testament are very different than anything attributed to Paul. I always wondered about him and why he had distain for women. The Jewish women I’ve met don’t have the feeling that most Christian Bible.
    Just look at the fight over abortion. And the ongoing fight. Republican after Republican are passing laws that are very dangerous for pregnant people. Catholic Churches have removed their method of caring for pregnancies that are failing. They are trying to eliminate the main drug used to treat miscarriages when 1 out of 4 pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. The same medication is used in ectopic pregnancies. Contrast all of that with how Jewish men treat women regarding reproductive health.
    The hatred is all too obvious. I remember being told when I was young that women are punished because we caused the fall of Eden.

    11:00 this is an area I see otherwise. I see him stating the action when he states the word and the heart. As we understand that what comes out of our mouth or actions, stem first from the heart. Hence the Avraham/Sarah hint story of laughing. One was out loud the other was in the heart. Yet the one that laughed in the heart got rebuked. Not the one that stated it out loud. Because one was sincere, the other was not. That seemed to be Sarah’s failure. Meaning the matters of the heart drive us to act or state things. So I believe his message is accurate here reminding the words of Deut but going further into the example of Yeshua that our actions stem from our deepest intentions. Or the route of ourselves from within which is truly what Abba seeks.

    1Co 9:23 And this )I do for the gospel's sake,( that I might be partaker thereof with you.
    Philippians 1:18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, (whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached.) And because of this I rejoice
    Paul is a thief who robs churches
    2Co 11:8 (I robbed other churches,) taking wages of them, to do you service.
    Act 8:3 (As for Saul, he made havock of the church), entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
    paul teach apostasy from the law of Moses:
    Act 21:21 And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.
    Cursed is he who does not keep the law of Moses like Paul:
    Deu 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
    Paul doesnt't go well with people:
    Act 15:38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
    Act 15:39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
    Ac:19:30: And when Paul would have entered in unto the people,( the disciples suffered him not.)( didn't allow him)
    Paul was Sinner and does evil things: Romans: 7:19: For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
    Paul was Possessed by Satin (evil): Romans: 7:20: Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but evil that dwelleth in me.

    Such slander to accuse a Godly man like Paul of being a homosexual. Jesus said for every idle word men will be accountable on judgement day the Torah also speaks ill of bearing false witness against others. To disagree with Paul theologically is one thing but to accuse him of such a vile sin as homosexuality is sinful even according to the Old Testament. But Paul probably heard much worse from his countrymen in that day he was beaten half to death three times and persecuted wherever he went. He was much like the Lord Jesus in that respect. His love for his countrymen the Jews was unwavering till the end though he said that if he could he would be cut off from God and go to perdition if it meant his fellow Jews would be saved. This is the same kind of love that Christ showed for all men that he would be willing to suffer the wrath of God so that others wouldn’t have to. Jesus said greater love hath no man than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

      That verse is dealing with the punishment of the guilty indeed those who are guilty will bear their own sins we will not be punished for another’s but will have to give account for everything we have done. However even in the old covenant those who’s sins were atoned for didn’t bear their own sins for it is written of the scapegoat “ The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.” If everyone were to bear their own sins then all would be damned for “we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” as Romans tells us. This is why an atonement is necessary, every sin under the Old Covenant had to be covered. Thank God for Jesus Christ the Lamb of God who “takes away the sins of the world” just as Isaiah prophesied in the 53rd chapter “ he bore the sins of many and made intercession for the transgressors.”

    I’m not at all a Paul fan, but with the new Jerusalem very imminent, maybe that’s why he preached to not get married or have children. Why bother?

    The problem with Bible translations as Romans 10 from Apostle Paul, is they're not accurate!!
    F. E. In Kings J. Version, Romans 10,2, says : For i bear them record that they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge. *
    *In Greek, the richest language on Planet Earth, there's a difference between greek words: Γνώσιν vs Επίγνωσιν.
    ( Knowledge vs I'm aware of, very deep knowledge without the need to examine further or analyze ).
    I don't know if there is an exact word for Επίγνωσιν)
    For example: Before your eyes is a flower. Immediately you have inside you, its smell,its material, perfume,the slightest detail automatically!!(to put it this way!)
    Beyind this: I didn't see any sign of a gay Paul in your saying,Rabbi!
    And i never met any text by Paul to inform us that he was Gay!!!
    So, would mind to explain how did this idea came to you to start a conversation letting gay traces against Paul!!??
    Google showed to me this conversation and i confess that i was astonished by because nothing in Pauls history,shows any gay symptoms..🤔
    Thanks,

    Don't use MAGA terminology like "woke". I can't find a definition for it.

    After I read the gospels i came to a conclusion that homosexuality was an easy day to day activity
    within Jesus Cult and the founder himself. That happened when Jesus himself took off his clothes and started to
    wash or massage with water to the feet of some of the guys with him inside the house.
    Wasn't he able to wash their feet while him wearing his clothes? or it was a necessity for something?
    The unbelievable comes when you ask the Christians about this incident, they will answer you Jesus was teaching
    them humbleness.
    Add to this when Jesus one day asked a guy of his followers to look to a woman kissing him and Jesus say
    to the guy why you don't kiss me also? And the naked young guy who ran out of the house at the time when Roman
    Soldiers arrived to arrest Jesus from the house.
    This is a clear and obvious homosexual erotic life.

    I believe this theory and I believe he thought it was going to damn him and that the Law was what caused it. That is why he went to war with the Law.

    Why does Tovia say the author of the book of Luke and Acts view themselves as writing "scripture" if they explicitly say they are not an eye witness. In other words the Author of Luke and Acts is admitting to not being under inspiration. Also 2 Peter does not imply nescisarily that Paul is on the same team.(2 Peter 3:16) It says Paul speaks dysnoēta which in greek tranlates to destructive of good sense.
