Can't wait for you to make the 2+2 Aerocoupe! I've been wanting to build both a Nascar and a stock GP 2+2 for years. There were resin bodies out, but I was never sure about them. But now that Salvino is doing one, I know it's going to be good quality.
Being a Brit, we don't really see much NASCAR here, especially from this era. However, I've always thought these cars look mean, even though they're 'almost' road car bodies on a race car chassis. I really like these NASCAR builds, and the finish you get on them is always great. Fantastic build and finish; great vid, thanks for sharing.
These models have never really irritated me-to this day. I already have the finished diorama in mind. I say thank you for the thought and of course for showing again what is in the box.
Love the older Petty cars. I just can’t seem to get around on doing two tone paint jobs. I can hardly tape lines right or straight! Nice build as always. I’m building an original Monogram Dale Sr. 1992 season Lumina at the moment. Even using the 27 year old decals that came with the kit! Good thing they are still in good condition.
Salvino's announced that in the near future they'll be issuing decals for all the red parts for all their Petty cars, so all the builder will have to do is paint the blue. Might be a good solution for you. I'm looking forward to trying those decals, the masking for the Petty Buick defeated me when I tried it.
Salvinos says they'll be sending me those decals to check out, I think they will be a great solution for lots of modelers that don't have the time to mask every kit.
When I sand some tires from certain model kits with my drill, it will smoke a little when I sand with a sanding stick. Must be that my drill is very fast lol
Would the paint used in this kit be good for the 1997 STP Grand Prix kit? I can’t find many matches to the colors used in Rustoleum cans, I’ll probably have to get the Tamiya ones.
Very nice ! Hey - Chris -- I'm working on the Salvinos JR Tim Richmond Old Milwaukee Pontiac kit right now and am finding that the front and rear clip pieces don't quite line up as nicely as what your assembled body looks like. I've actually checked two different kits that I have -- it seems the front and rear clips appear to be a bit "wider" than the body. I.e. the bumper part of the clips wants to be a bit wider than the molded part on the mating body surface. Any tips that you used when fitting these pieces ? I.e. did you find you needed to "spread" the body fenders a bit to make the bumper parts mate more closely ? Thanks !
All the stock car kits I've gotten from Modelroundup pop together really nice. No trimming, no adjusting. They may need some spreading of the body to pop over but they go together fine for me. They were some of the best kits Monogram ever rolled out.
Great build - it looks awesome! Also, for the future, on Petty cars the suspension pieces were usually dark blue, in case you wanted to do something other than black. 👍🏁
On the petty car did you have any problems with color bleed through on the white border. I've always had that problems with the old amt/ revell monogram nascars.
Once this weirdness is done with, I’d like to find a Richard Petty Superbird model kit. I haven’t researched for it yet but there has to be one or two available. On a personal note, I’m not a huge NASCAR fan now but I was back when Petty ran. I’d love to get a Richard Petty autograph. He truly is the King.
I remember building a few "trans am" racers back in the day, they went together just as smooth as the Nascar kits. Where did you get those body holders for painting? Long live the KING!
@@hpiguy ok thanks alot I really appreciate your videos it got me back into modeling and I've learned so many new things love your builds wish you could have more videos a week
I know you go by the instruction sheet when choosing paint colors. I can tell you from experience that the red on Richard's cars was a day-glo red and the blue was an electric blue. About the same color as Ford Grabber Blue. You could be sitting in the grandstands at Daytona or Talladega and clearly pick out his car going down the backstretch. It was that bright. When the sun was shining it was as if the car was lighting up.
Correct, I don't like that Fliurescent Red on my models, it looks odd to me on a small model. BUT, that doesn't mean others can't use it if they want to. I think everyone should build for themselves and enjoy their hobby in the way they want to.
To be realistic, never glue the windshield in...in 1983, whenever a car spun, the first thing that would come flying out was the windshield. That said, this car brings back a lot of great memories.
