I'm here to add to the "Danny Mo was my teacher at Berklee" pile. Seriously you couldn't ask for a more ideal instructor, he was so supportive and encouraging at every level of proficiency. Incredibly nice and charming guy with incredibly helpful advice no matter who you are. Much love to him, I'm glad he's in the modern content creation biz, I studied with him over 15 years ago and he's still just as cool as I remember him.
Great to see Danny here. I had a couple of classes with him at Berklee and I wish I had had more. About 10 years ago I went up to Boston to visit and I saw him and he actually remembered me! (since we're both from NY, we had that connection) Sweet dude and a helluva bassist!
Danny is such a great guy, only was able to take a few classes with him during summer programs but, but I took more away from his classes than any other class. He even wrote me a recommendation when I was thinking about applying to go to Berklee full time
I feel your first honest reaction to Donna Lee. Even when I had worked on it for a while I heard it as a minor line (until then I had only gotten familiar with the Jaco-version). Was really weird to hear the original with the chords for the first time..
Great to see you here Danny! I miss my private lessons with you at Berklee and you classes. You awesome teacher and friend. It’s Pero from Norway here.

Dude... Danny .... is ... Mah Man!... His tone is amazing! Hey just a thought has Scott ever thought about bringing Pete Shand in to do an interview, or lesson video. I guess I just thought about that tone, and Pete came up in my head... I mean The New Mastersounds do come from Leeds.?. Just a thought.
@@BlackRootsAcademyOfSoul thanks but I was hoping to find out more about the the pickup brand, as well as the flats brand. For example my p bass with Seymour duncan quarter pounders and chromes sound nothing like this.
@@anferz It may not be the most informative reply, but with woofy tones like that you can often get much closer with a graphic eq pedal and the right kind of subtraction. Rolling off the volume knob (in addition to the tone knob) on passive basses can also warm up the sound a lot!
This funk version of Donna Lee sounds very cheesy to me. I prefer Donna Lee by bassist Alex Bershadsky He plays it with slap technique. I don't like it because it's slap, just the arrangement is funkier and not as cliché funk
Amazing. Nice video and interpretation. It also may not be for everyone. Imho, Jaco took this to another level. Clearly. Still, this is nice work. I’ll add, it never ceases to amaze me that on internet, someone always has to put someone else down. And both ways…especially with a diatribe scolding response. Really? How about maybe we don’t all have to have the same opinion? You lose your point when you go into net shaming of another opinion. If a person says it’s not their thing, it should be fine. Why put them down? What’s that about? Nobody is always right. And it’s ok to hear something and it’s not your bag. We don’t live in boxes… where we all do the same thing and everyone is supposed to be in ‘ the cool club’…or are we going there? Hip and cool is really what you yourself think it is to you. Not someone else. I suggest we all act like mature adults when commenting. It shows intelligence and wisdom. ✌️

I took some bass labs with Danny Morris when I was at Berklee, and he was such a great teacher. One of the best.

Danny Mo! Had one class with him my last semester at Berklee, have nothing but positive memories, very genuine and friendly person

Danny is my discovery since back some years. an amazing bassist! 🍷
Digging this!
Drummer has a sweet feel too!
Tom Major, world class drummer. Check him out.
Thanks for that Tom!
It’s like being back in class with him. Love Dmo
Nicely done. Donna Lee is a classic in many ways. Nice bass Ian!
What bass is it?

THIS makes us lesser mortals appreciate that music. Thank you.
Seeing the thumbnail I first thought, what, Palantir CEO Alex Karp plays bass? Cool! 😄
Yoooo that drummer is low key nuts back there
Out of topic : could you make a video on the design of your bass ?
Or is it already existing ?
What bass guitar is the green-white that you play ? It sounds good !!!!
Danny is playing a 60s P. I’m playing a Vuorensaku short scale
MASTERCLASS right here
05:55 onwards, from a Berkley guy, thank you.
Excellent Danny 🎸🎵🎶

Man I just love that tone. I’m not always a p bass guy, but when I am, I want it to sound like that! Any idea what strings, and/or pickup he’s using?
They sound flatwound to me. 50% of tone is in technique though.
That's a "P" pickup

This seems like it should sound bad, but it doesn't. Weird.
Welcome to jazz
I must not be a jazzer cause this sounds way better to me than Jaco!
It's a lot more "easy listening" than Jaco's version, I'll give ya that.
Please give us this blue bass ref
Vuorensaku
He was my teacher 13 years ago.
Lucky dude Marco! Danny is a beast!
are those all your basses????? I have ONE BASS.
and that's all I need...this one bass, I don't need any...oh wait, I need this.!!!
Shure SM7B on bass amp?
Great stuff! 👍❤ I'd also love Scary Pockets play this. 😁
What in the world kinda bass is that?!
No pdf :')
What kind of bass is that?
Pbass… unless you mean the Vuorensaku
What are these guys talking about.
I play eights on E/A/B, that‘s it.

Maybe "funk" doesn't mean what I thought it meant.
A loose definition of funk, but definitely cool. Never heard of 'Donna Lee'
Reminds of every time I've time I've seen "funk" with a low tempo in a real book, haha
That's my name 😊
The Jaco version is more funk then this, this was just elevator jazz.
Yep...
Agree the video title is clickbait, but you've missed the point of the video if that's your take tbh.
Gonna take you thru it but SLOWER! Bout 1:25 🤦♂️
