There is no way to know what prompted the thumbs down. Perhaps he didn't like the A-flat rather than A-natural or something (else) too subtle for you to hear. The young musicians might know exactly what he objected to; and, they were hoping no one would notice it. On the other hand, maybe he's just stupid.
@@claytonpoon7764 It's not as much that as it is going to a video about jazz, hearing it done really well, and disliking without giving a reason. If you don't want to hear a version of Donna Lee, then don't open the video. This is such a great community and it baffles me that we still have toxic people in it.
Man that is just amazing God that alto player is phenomenal so is the trumpeter and tenor man! Dona lee is one of my favorites but i still can't seem to play it on my alto but I can I play it on my guitar lol
Dayum!! this is killer! I came from Gabe Evans website and randomly clicked "Donna Lee". You guys smoke it, and the interlude and Gabe's little touches are so cool. Rhythm section, so tight too. Solos, mind-blowing. Great stuff guys!
I like how the Alto tried to keep his laughter or smile in in the beginning. I can't blame him, if I had that much sauce, it would be hard not to smile too
It's such a nice new, soothing jazz. You can feel the new elegance after the time of two decades of free jazz. The present has reconciled so many free elements that once took some getting used to, that it is a pleasure to listen to these young musicians. Love the contribution of the piano player. (Sorry for my maybe strange english). Greetings from Germany.
So cool seeing you young cats absolutely killin' it in straight-ahead jazz! Keep up the great work, and I look forward to hearing more about all of you in your future musical endeavors!
Really great version of the tune! Everybody in this combo are great musicians. I really like the the piano quotes. And alto sax is monstruous! Greetings from Argentina
Carlos Schvartzman In that article it states that Miles Davis wrote "Donna Lee". Will gladly change the description if you can send me something that proves otherwise!
Hi Stuart! I know I wouldn't have to ask a question like this if my ears were better, but the modal break you guys are adding between choruses is 8 bars of Ab Mixolydian, 8 of E Mixolydian and 8 of Eb Mixolydian (ish) right?
Jacobo Vega-Albela hi Jacobo, you're really close! What's written on the page (in concert pitch) is Ab7sus, E7sus, Eb7sus. However, we took a lot of liberty of the changes and weren't necessarily always playing those chord qualities.
+Stuart Mack D@mn you guys are killin' it! Sax and drum player here. :) Big THUMBS UP! Well I know that it's been years ago now, but can you PLEASE ask JOHN STURINO what right hand RIDE CYMBAL he is playing here??? I want to steal that pie right off his kit, haha! Thanks! - B.B.
Greatissimo performance by each member of the group. Alex smokes and burns relentlessly. What an alto saxophonic display of excellence! The tenorman, not unlike the trap drummer, is a polite inferno that can be extinguish with only maximum difficulties. The trumpeter, bassist and pianist are gentle giants who will certainly create brilliance in the not-too-distance future. Great Band.
when bird said “in the next 25 maybe even 50 years maybe some youngster will come along and take this and do something with it” he was talking about alex hahn.
Donna Lee 1947...1957...1967...1977...1987...1997...2007...2017. 70 years ago this was modern music played by young people in their twenties on the cutting edge! Were they looking back 70 years to 1877 and trying to recreate the music of that time? Makes one pause? Probably not.
I love the bass player's expressions.
Colonel_Chu He walked that bass from LA to New York and back
+Jousting Dildos
Me too!!
Is that Dmitri Shostakovich with... Princess Leias hair?
Stuart Mack was
The person that disliked should be placed in a pit of poisonous snakes. Why hate on kids making art. Get a life. Great job Stu

Poor stupid, idiot and above all jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! As a jazz musician myself, it's always to see the great and emerging talented "younger generation" carry on the jazz tradition. Kudos to you!
Thanks so much Jeremiah!!!!
Yes, it warms my heart to see and especially hear!
Man that is just amazing God that alto player is phenomenal so is the trumpeter and tenor man! Dona lee is one of my favorites but i still can't seem to play it on my alto but I can I play it on my guitar lol

Did they take it faster than the tempo Donna lee was originally in? Cuz it sounds like it
This is around 300; Parker's is at 230
Playing it GRP big band style😎
Yup. This about the same tempo as the Wynton Marsalis cut.
In the real book its 200 but the 2nd arangement is at 250 but idk what this is in
@@rezqyagung7782 4 years later 🥲 thank you

Beautiful, out of the box, version - heard a little Steely Dan Aja in there.

Damn Alex!
Freaking killer guys. cut time next time around :) just kidding.
nice modern take on a classic tune...
Daaaaaaang.
Holy shit
cool
At 1:45. the bass player must be thinking his fingers are going to fall off and saying to himself "hands don't cramp up now!!".
Ooowee!
Emily Xander lol! Thanks 😊
Be-Bop not my fave style, but these guys can play and good to see a new technically accomplished generation carrying it on.
Nice video! On the head, it should be an A-natural on the and-of-two on the G minor b5 chord. A-flat is a common mistake in real books.
Esquilin Music the opening lick?
As Monk once said: "You're making the wrong mistakes."
Which notes did you use?
Saxophonist: yes
Sasha king crimson !!!
whats the altos whole setup? sounds sweet!
Yes. Altoist is a dead ringer for ol' Rick A!
1:00 the saxophonist sounds exactly like baptiste herbin!
4:38 the pianist gives an idea to the sax player

hmm..
o compositor é o miles Davis? Pensei que era o Parker.
+thisaxlevy I thought Parker as well, but Wikipedia says Miles Davis.
It is not an easy question, read here (read also the comments): peterspitzer.blogspot.com.br/2011/05/tunes-miles-may-not-have-written.html
