Since pretty much all of the replacements are used drives, it's nice to see that your used drive at least works, even though the disk mechanism was jammed. Cheers.
Replaced the dvd and it worked straight away! Games like Mario Party 10 that didn't work with the old drive, are working again! Thank you for the excellent instructions!
I read about the problem that you can't simply exchange the drive of the WiiU. Nice to see a confirmation + the workaround of only changing the mechanics.
U have 2 swop the chip on new DVD drive to old drive because the old borad has its own key for every system so u can't just swop the drive u must swop the board to the new drive

My ribbon seems to work but the little connection it plugs into on the circuit board in the console broke off. Not just the black clip but the whole little circuit. Seems like a clean break. Can I solder it back on? If I push it back on and hold the ribbon in the red light comes on and blinks. Occasionally I can get the white light to come on for like a second but I never hear fans spinning/more of the unit coming to life before it shuts itself off. Thoughts on how to fix it?

Thanks, the eject cable that is connected to the mother board doesn't seem to be connected well. I have to wiggle it around in order for the red light to turn on. I'm thinking it's the mother board input that is the problem, as I bought and installed a replacement ribbon cable.

Sorry - I wish I could help! Though if you want a work around, download Loadiine and homebrew your Wii U - you can then load games from an SD card. Not ideal, but it works!
Hi, really sorry to ear that. I really wouldn't be able to say. My best advice would be to go back and do it through again. Chances are you have left something unplugged. Very unlikely something killed the whole console. Let us know how you get on!
@@leasebergfladstad167 oh I see, that's good because it means the console is not completely broken. Does the game run at all (even in the gamepad)? And does it display any error codes? I'd avoid trying to take it apart until you narrow down what component is giving you the issue! Hope that makes sense!
The game don't run anyway if the console don't even working, only the Wii U menu and the symbols, but don't show on TV screen the symbol code anyway and both the lights on the console only keep blinking.
I got a question what if you broke the ribbon off the original pcb board, can you use the new ribbon in the drive replacement or it just screwed forever and just have to buy a new wii u

My WiiU will no longer read the discs. Everything else works great. Its just gives us errors when we tried to play any disc games. We were advised that the disc drive was bad so to save $40 + in labor we're going to give it a go with your video. Please advise!!!
Rom drive failures have existed since the first rom drive game console arrived. Unlike the PC, the swop is often more involving and can take a long time if it's even possible..this is the reason why I wish for the next gen(Xbox Two and PS5) to simply have a massive storage drive for digital download. If you think this is not a great idea, simply look at Gog and Steam. Both have been around for more than a decade and I never have to use a potentially failing drive, worry about lost disc's, scratched disc's or a cracked disk, on my PC...cheers.
