Great review and thanks for getting it out on time! I agree…would rather have 200m water resistance and a thinner case and minute markers instead of a third time zone. However setting the watch accurately could be done if you wait till the time is at a 5 minute marker point (annoying but possible). It’s downfalls I forgive due to the beautiful mop dial. The mako is my favourite model from Zelos so the problem will really be getting one in the first place 😁
I have just bought my first new Zelos, the carbon one of these on the strap. I have 3 V3's which I brought over a period on ebay. Just love the shape on the Mako, lume is excellent😎
Just bought the GMT MAKO with the blue meteorite dial & bezel. My 1st Zelos of any kind. 1st “True GMT” & it will have a special place in my collection. Thanks Jody…you rock Mate!
You are spot on Jody. The GMT hits it out of the park...almost. It has every feature I would choose if I were designing a GMT. But no minute track is a deal-breaker and that is heartbreaking as I was ready to jump on the blue meteorite dialed version. Hopefully they'll remedy this in the next iteration. Cheers!
What breaks my heart about this is that this release finally gets to have a full lume dial with the Mako Frost, but no minute track is the sole drawback with this otherwise great design.
@@yosefkashani9470 actually, I don't mind the raised Sapphire, it feels like it strikes the perfect balance between normal sapphire glass and the raised Sapphire the Spinnaker Piccard has. It's noticeable enough to be aesthetic but not too much to make it a magnet for door hinges and corners.
15.8 is ridiculously thick and unfortunately a dealbreaker for me. was getting ready to pull the trigger on the white frost GMT until you review came. thanks mate, saved me a big disappointment.
I want both minute markers AND 24 hour markers on my chapter ring for a true GMT. I have a Citizen Promaster GMT diver that has both plus it has a dive bezel insert so I get the best of both worlds. They managed to do this with a coliseum style chapter ring. It has eco-drive, 200 meters of water resistance, quick set date, is only 14 mm thick and has plenty of AR. I do like that orange dial Zelos but the lack of AR does concern me! Great review Jody!
Thanks for the video. I was able to get my first mechanical watch. Able to get the Aventurine dial and all thanks for this video. Long time subscriber but just never pulled trigger on anything. This needed to be the first. Thanks man!!!
The aventurine dial is gorgeous as ever and I prefer the thinner case but I already have aventurine spearfish GMT. I think I'll try and snag the mop dial and hope it doesn't wear as thick as it looks on paper. Awesome effort to get the review out in time before the launch. Great to see both these dials in sunlight before making a purchase decision.
Nooooo....the GMT really did tick all the boxes and I was getting ready to pull the trigger, but not having minute markers is a real deal breaker. Thanks Jody for pointing out something no other reviewer caught.
Love the dial and options...the minute markers are a quandary for sure but for me the main issue is the ugly end links...they just stop before the dial...would make a replacement strap look a little odd surely
Great review of some really handsome watches! On a side note, a pet-peeve of mine is how they always put '24' TDC on GTM watches. Why? Noon/zenith, by definition is straight up!
Its easy to see why Zelos watches are so popular and these two really do look the part but for me personally the combination of dd saphire on the sparkling dial is somewhat distracting but eye popping nonetheless whereas lack of minutes markers on the GMT really lets the otherwise nice watch down. Great video Jody!
Zelos has been really delivering great quality and value. I have the Hammerhead bronze case with burnt orange dial - a solid and nice-looking timepiece for the price.
Minute markers for me Jody. The Heinrich Taucher V1 diver didn't have minute markers but at least the dive bezel had a 15 minute graded bezel so you could always rotate that to accurately set the time. A shame as I'd have liked one of these Mako GMTs... however it's not all bad news as instead I have gone for the "Hammered Orange" Mako after seeing Dave's review of it over at Just The Watch
You showed a photo of the green Malachite dial, but didn't mention that it won't available for sale along with the other dials. The Malachite is a special dial variant, that is available to a zelos fan group first, then will be made available to the general public in a few days.
Never owned a Zelos but that aventurine dial for that price is hard to beat. Always look forward to your videos! The most enjoyable watch review videos handsdown!
11:58 now that I think about it - prompted by your question - I’ve got to say that the mosaic shouldn’t have a date, minute markers, or a GMT. The star is the dial and that stuff really gets in the way.
Agreed about the extras and sad to be honest. Used to get a great quality watch roll and extra strap in the day, fast forward to those ugly pointless metal boxes, no extra strap, higher pricing. The new watch roll they're releasing now however is a big improvement, but still a shame we're not getting those extra straps. Never puts me off buying a Zelos but just something we've all noticed we don't get anymore. These are great, that MOP dial is something else, these at 40mm are too small for me so won't be buying one, but hopefully they keep that style of dial in future releases.
Yes, I was considering buying the GMT version until I was somewhat peeved off with the missing minute markers. If minute markers were printed, it'll benefit with shorter hands to match the minute markers. I have a Horizon GMT, whereby I thought I could live with the minute hand tip covering the minute markers. After wearing it for some time, I became very annoyed with it and plan to replace with either a shorter or syringe tip minute hand (just need to check when the warranty expires).
I would have preferred minute markers for sure, but hey, I've ordered the Frost GMT that will be my 3rd Zelos, and I'm sure I'll be very happy with it just as I'm with the previous 2!
Love the channel keep making great informative videos. I have a question unrelated to this particular watch, I'm looking for a big heavy duty dive watch Iam looking at the cronos l6009 and steeldive sd1964 any information about either of these watches and or your recommendations would be appreciated
Zelos advetised the thickness as 12.5mm for the GMT and I was excited about the proportions especially considering the short lug to lug. How did they manage to make it 15.8mm that too with a slim Miyota movement. Tbh the proportions are odd even with a to hat domed crystal.
Excellent video, as per your usual. One quibble, I see you use the word "etched" to describe case backs that look "cast" to me. On this Mako, for example, the text looks etched, but the fish looks raised, then brushed, and so was cast in a mold. Etching takes material away, casting allows for raised images. I think cast case backs cost a bit more and seem a bit more luxurious to me. Just my $.02. All the best!
Good video! I was able to pick up the Mako with the 'AVENTURINE' dial. 😁I’ve missed out on this dial a few times in the past. This will be my first Mako but third Zelos. I agree with your assessment of the GMT and lack of minute markers. I appreciate the ability to set and read the time on my watch accurately. It’s nice to see the Miyota 9075 making it into more watches. Hopefully, that translates into lower prices🤞🏻
These are really nice looking watches, I could go for some really cool natural material on the dial face. But over the years every time I see a review of the Mako, I think what a great watch and then I look at the handset. I think it’s just too skinny and too small for the watch. Which is too bad because other than that it looks great!
They could have done both minute markers and the 24 hour markers. Seiko did on the SSK. If I had to choose only one, on a GMT it’s the 24 hour markers for a third time zone, no question.
I’ll admit that I never got the Zelos frenzy. They’re nice watches, but not particularly inexpensive, and well… any time I’ve looked at one I found interesting, it’s not available for sale. Not just some specific spec that is super unusual, but half a dozen or more styles or colors that you can’t buy. Nothing about them seems so super special that I ever thought about joining the crowd ready to pounce on the go-live announcement. Sincerely yours, Dougie Downer 😁
The biggest thing here to me, is that we are finally starting to see the 9075 appear in more watches. Hopefully 2023 will be the year of the 9075 like how 2022 was the year of the NH34
Jody, that adventurine is absolutely stunning. Probably my favorite dial of the year! Too bad that price will never get approved in the family budget🤷🏼♂️ Any chance a certain world famous watch channel would do a giveaway for it😳
I think that the Raindrop Carbon is the clear winner, it's gorgeous. It almost reminds me of birch bark. I also like the aventurine and meteorite but, I ready have a meteorite dial Samurai so it's not something for my collection. I wish that not only the chapter ring had minute markers but, that they brought a bit of the accent color from the GMT hand and second hand into it. Even if it was just the little dots, a bit of color would liven it up. It's pretty dull as it is.
These dont quite hit the mark for me but sure they're probably sold out already. The endlink seems to overhang the case? Doesnt look very refined to me
This comment is late I know. Although I'm fairly OCD and would prefer minute markers as well. Is it really that hard to divide a 5 minute dial section by 5 to reasonably set the minute hand? I find that often setting the time on any watch that when pushing in the crown the minute hand moves slightly anyway. I have an earlier V3 Mako and bought the Frost GMT. Thanks Jody for a great review as usual.
Started ordering the GMT in white frost but pulled out at the last - ultimately the thickness put me off. But the lack of a minute track is also baffling - the Seiko SSK combines the 24hr rehaut with a minute track and it looks fine, and it's the minute setting that needs precision rather than the GMT hour.
Mixed thoughts on these .They need to lift the date up a bit like the MIDO does, they are trying to emulate the Aqua Terra trap of sitting it right on the six indice. Minute marker;s missing. The Z for some reason reminds me of the Zodiac . Overall, not quite my cup of tea.
Really dislike how zelos doesnt tell you the real thickness on their website. they say its only 12.5mm thick for the GMT... glad I didnt decide to get one but I imagine there will be a few annoyed people. 3.3mm is not inconsequential on a watch
Loved that assymetric bevel on the crown guard and the excessivly chonky case.....not a Zelos guy but am I right in thinking the gmt doesn't have any min markers? 😮 Perhaps a more elegant designthan my Vostock 24 hr dial with min markers AND 2.5 min/hr markers..........
Jody, you continue to be the best. I have a few Makos already and just purchased more than one on this release. The issue with the minute marker is something I've been whining about for days. Like I mentioned to another reviewer, >99% of us use minute markers and maybe like 1% track three time zones. It's definitely a rare design swing-and-a-miss by Zelos. Still, I did snag the aventurine and one of the GMTs. I have no issue with the bit of AR on my current Makos, so I hope the current AR is at least comparable.
Minute markers is an unfortunate miss, if you ever let it stop it'll be a bit of a pain. I think the inclusion of male end links on a relatively compact watch is a miss as well. It's 46 lug to lug but the male end links I believe push it closer to 50.
Wow. You are rolling out the content these days. Love this brand. Eventually will own one. Too little time and money. Too many watches. Thank you thank you. Great vid. Merci.
I have issues with this MOP style since based on your demonstration of it from certain angles, it doesnt have same magic as the MOP Blacktip since the color change is restricted due its varied colors. The Blacktip MOP goes from Black to Teal and vice versa depending on the angle, which got me regretting going for the Meteorite in the process.
The no minute markers threw me off. I got on the Mako band wagon well after the previous versions sold out. Plus I dont have a GMT in the collection... Yet. Think I'll aim for the sky blue 3 hander.
Nice dials but I'd vote for minute markers & a slimmer watch too. The crazy sell out in a few minutes routine is also getting rather Rolex like. One for the fans perhaps but it obviously works for Zelos so power to their profits I guess.
The missing minute markers would change setting the exact time. Instead of being able to sync the second and minute hands once a every minute, a user would only be able to accurately sync the hands once every 2.5 minutes. I already have a Spearfish GMT Frost, so I don’t really ‘need’ either of these, but these two dial variants are coincidentally the ones I have been lusting after. We will see how things go in 3 hours and 8 minutes.
@@MPD90 The markers (dots) for the odd hours on the 24 hour chapter ring are half way between the 5 minute markers. When the seconds hand is at 30 seconds, the minute hand should point directly at the dots when the time is 2.5, 7.5, 12.5 …. 52.5 & 57.5 minutes past the hour. Setting the watch at 0, 5, 10 …. 50 & 55 minutes past the hour would be done as usual with the second hand pointing to 0 seconds. Therefore, I can sync the watch every 2.5 minutes, instead of every 1 minute as would be done if there were 60 markers on the chapter ring.
Love the stars at night dial, other than that it's another Zelos with their standard case shape which I think wears thicker than it needs to with any sort of long sleeve. My Mechana faux 1000m diver which has a convex fixed bezel and glass shape is 18.5mm at its thickest [5mm glass] and about 16.5 mm at the edge but because of its smoother contour wears smaller than my Zelos Swordfish.
You absolutely hit the nail on the (watch) head. The absence of minute markers on the GMT rehaut is an interesting design choice.
Great Scott! No minute markers?! I agree, that is an odd oversight. But that blue meteorite dial...is amazing 🤤 Great video per usual!
I have just bought my first new Zelos, the carbon one of these on the strap. I have 3 V3's which I brought over a period on ebay. Just love the shape on the Mako, lume is excellent😎
Wow! Zelos has quite the following. Like the Frost, but alas sold out. I agree, no minute markers . That is a must!!! Nice vid, Jody. Thank you. 🥃
Just bought the GMT MAKO with the blue meteorite dial & bezel. My 1st Zelos of any kind. 1st “True GMT” & it will have a special place in my collection. Thanks Jody…you rock Mate!

Excellent review and not too shabby dials very unique. Thank you for getting this review out before the launch, unlike some!

Bought one the gmt.i dont mind the minute marker.because if the time is 1203 i would just say its 1200 or 1205
Im happy they have the size in their names but I'm a bit sad there are no 37 and 38mm watches.
Amazing Jody🎉
I’m really hoping the MOP looks better in person. I was able to snag one so I guess we’ll see.
Same. It will.
