    We had a postage size lot last year and we purchased new plastic garbage bins. Drilled holes to drain and files bottom with a bag of pea gravel before adding soil; peat moss and compost. Planted about 5 pounds in each can and kept adding more soil mix on top as they grew. Greatest thing was that they were on wheels so we could roll them to a better spot. Our production was pretty good too! Probably harvested three times what we planted... Which I've been told if u get double u did well

    Soil looks very dry spuds need water. Have you tried digging a trench filling with well rotted manure then a layer of soil then plant your tubers with a scattering of fertilizer foot apart and earth up when the green tips show, watering on a regular basis. Or you could use tubs dig a trench place the tubs in the trench and earth up, the spuds can use the holes in the bottom and sides of the trench for extra moisture place a few shovels of compost in the bottom sprinkle of fertilizer cover the spud sets with a layer of compost dampen and fill with compost when the green tips appear small sprinkle of fertilizer. For large spuds I have one eye on the seed potato for smaller potatoes I have many eyes. Never give up I remember one year think I harvested one potato out of a row due to slug and rat problems I changed over to growing in tubs. My fave is the Sarpo Mira maincrop blight resistant and very large potatoes. Greetings from the UK

    Congrats Lenty - Glad you finally got a good spud harvest !! You did WAY better than we did this year. I put in 10 plants mounded them the tops grew great they looked fine no issues went to harvest them and got BUPKIS. All the spuds were small shriveled up and rotten. Dont know what happened but can sympathize with how you felt the last couple of years. Well enjoy your harvest !!
    Keep the info and updates growing our way :-{}

    Hooray you got some potatoes Lenty and as you stated if you would have planted first thing in the spring, they'd have been much larger,..likely filled that pail. Take care and good luck in your gardening next year.

    Man! I hate to see you give up! Glad to see you had some luck. Make yourself a big old patch next spring. You know you can do it. now!!
    We were in a big transition period this year. Not much on the garden or homesteading front. (I have not eaten taters or grains since March!)
    Next spring we are going to be going full bore. I will be planting lots of taters, and exclusively in the new and improved towers. It will be very similar to the potato towers I did year before last. Hopefully I will get back into the swing of things and have lots of videos next season. :)
