Eurovision is much more older than the Voice and American Idol. This is the biggest music show in the world since 1956.

The original "the Voice" is from Netherlands.

"The Big 5": The UK, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy are known as The Big Five and automatically qualify for the final. These countries’ broadcasters make the biggest financial contribution towards the contest, and so automatically get to compete.
Reason for the implementation: When the German entry "Planet of Blue" failed in an internal qualifying round in 1996 and Germany was unable to take part in the ESC final, the organizers felt the impact of the first absence of such a large participating country.

Eurovision is so different from Idol or the Voice. If you're interested in more than just checking out all the winners of the national finals, Melodifestivalen is a great show to watch in full. (Once a week for 5 weeks). Its Sweden's contest. The movie was very fun and I loved the cameos, but it really didn't capture Eurovision all that well. I was suprised because Farrell is a fan - but I thought it was a caricature of the actual show. Countries are eligible that are part of the European Union. Australia has a history of being very very big fans of Eurovision, so they let them join once....and they just kept asking them back. They've had mostly really good showings! ((The Russian grandmas were actually really really good!!!))

Well, I am still watching the video so I don't know yet if this info comes later. But non European countries can take part of the contest because the rules establish that you must be active member of the European Broadcasting Union to be allowed to participate. The name of the contest may confuse people but it doesn't mean that it is European exclusively.

And Australia joined Eurovision in 2015 to commemorate the competition’s 60th anniversary. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) allowed this given Eurovision’s popularity in the country. This was initially supposed to be a one-off appearance for the country, as part of that year’s ‘Building Bridges’ theme. However, Australia has appeared in the competition every year since then.

Yes Spencer, you're correct. Ireland won so much, they deliberately tried to come as runner ups, so they wouldn't have to host the next year. It's very costly.

And yet they won three times in a row... and just politely asked if somebody else could take it (which they did). This whole 'countries losing on purpose to avoid hosting the next event' is such bullshit, there is no rule saying you have to host the next year if you don't want to.

Why didn't they just choose to not compete one or few years? There's always countries nowadays that don't show up.

We'll at least do the winners of each individual country, which is what I (Spencer) did last year on my original music channel & decided to move those over here as I didn't want to turn that channel into a reaction channel. We also plan to do a watch along to both semi-finals & the grand final too

ESC: All Contestants must be aged at least 16 on the day of the Final. "Junior"ESC: since 2003. Competitors are aged between nine and 14 years old and, like the adult version of the competition, each country taking part enters a song to represent their country.

The votes used to be from a committee only but they changed it due to public demand. Can't remember if this happened in the 90's or 2000's.

The host countries go straight through to the final because they started the contest, were the original contestants and invest the most to keep the contest going.

not so much cause they started the contest. It's just that they invest the most, and without their investment they'd lose a huge part of the financing.

There is this misunderstanding that countries are intentionally bad to not have to host next year.
But, no country has to compete. And there's always a few countries that don't participate, due to the price. So if you can't afford it - just don't show up. Problem solved.
The only countries I think might do it are "The Big 5". They already plow so much money to that thing.

Wait... what? When did you film this video? The competition in UK was last year.
This year you're going to Sweden.
