The Fisher (Pekania pennanti), also known as the pekan or giant marten is a large marten native to North America, it is the only extant species of the genus Pekania and is the largest of the nine extant marten species, there are four recognized marten subspecies: the Northwestern Fisher (Pekania pennanti columbiana), the Southwestern Fisher (Pekania pennanti pacifica), the Southeastern Fisher (Pekania pennanti pennanti), and the Northeastern Fisher (Pekania pennanti piscator).
