    I have a 2001 Deville and I stopped it from overheating by drilling out only one stripped out bolt hole. I didn't buy the $400 NP kit. I bought a $150 kit off ebay. GM stripped out one head bolt hole when they built the engine. When I installed the heads. I only torque them to 50 lbs-ft. Don't worry about the angle bs. This is the reason the threads were stripped out in the first place.

    I bought a Cadillac STS with North Star. Thought it had a blown head gasket, replaced it was putting new one and discovered it was actually stripped head bolts causing the problem. Left everything new in place and drilled the bolt holes out to half inch and tapped them. Vacuumed out the metal bits. Slapped in some new bolts and had one of the fastest cars I ever drove.

    Hi crickory the you have to use the same bolts or different than the originals please let me know thank you very much

    • @crickory
      @crickory  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, the bolts included in the NSP SureGrip Kit are different from the original bolts. The NSP bolts are larger - bigger around and have different threads -- which is why the block must be drilled out, like what Jake is doing there. @northstarperfornance

    To you have to re stud when u change head gaskets?

    • @crickory
      @crickory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi. No you shouldn't have to restud your block. After it's studded you shouldn't have any head gasket problems ever again. I guess if for example, you had a defective gasket that needed replacing you'd just replace it -- removing/replacing the head studs themselves shouldn't be an issue. I'm not a mechanic though just a Northstar owner. I will try to forward your question to NorstarPerformance: th-cam.com/channels/2gRqUAOgVL45SjNzYbZIkg.html and see what they say.

    How much did just the head stud kit cost you? I looked at their website and only seen a price for both upper and lower block stud kit and head gasket set combined.
    When I saw it I went, OH MY!
    I've tried contacting them for price and availability for just the head stud kit, including drill/tapping jig, but they never got back to me with an answer.
