THIIIIISSSS. The moms & grandma's are easy. It's the men in my life I struggle to make things for... or even shop for!
Warning: if you’re gonna make the braided coaster/potholder do NOT hot glue them!! Potholders and coasters are used to hold warm and sometimes VERY hot containers with VERY hot liquid and this can melt the glue and cause them to fall apart!!! Stitch them together, it really will make a big difference!!!

@@laurenelholm1071 no I don’t, however with the method described in the video I’d assume you would simply start from the outside and stitch along the middle edges

For any of y’all making the pot holder, make sure you actually weave the rope instead of hot gluing it. Otherwise, a hot pot might just melt the glue again and leave you with an unraveled pot coaster and a sticky mess 😅 but for regular coasters would probably be fine!

@@ambersmith2612 I don't know the proper way but I assume you could use some sewing thread to just hand sew it together and you wouldn't see it.
@@ambersmith2612 I don't know about weaving, but you could probably sew it pretty easily, especially if you used a flat/blunt needle like those for braided rugs, which you could probably diy (google 'braided rug needle' or similar)

For anyone attempting the candle: Make sure your essential oil does NOT contain alcohol, that can be dangerous. I also advise against putting pieces of lavender etc in there, potential fire hazard. For best scent throw and looks try to pay attention to the temparature and the flash point of your oils or essences! Also, make sure your container is a good choice, should be thicker glas, a metallic tin etc, don't use plastic
Yes; sometimes I melt down my candles to reshape for various reasons, and because I can't measure temperature, they usually wind up with a big dip in the middle. Not a huge deal because they still burn just fine, but not something I would want to gift.
I HATE when people come on someone else's channel/video to point out what they did wrong and put them down, and tell everyone how it really should be done. And act like a know-it-all like they know better, but I didn't feel that from your comment. I'm no one special, but I just want to commend you for that and for being respectful to Drew when suggesting what worked for you 😊. Other perspectives are always good when done correctly ❤️.
How can the lilac be a fire hazard? If it catches fire wouldn't it just melt the wax? I would think it wouldn't be any different than the fire on the Wick. Can you explain? I'm not trying to be rude. I'm genuinely asking 😊.
@@carriebecker1097 Hi! Sure. There's a number of reasons you might not wanna do that: 1) You never know for sure how add-ins will behave: they can ignite, heat and spark, pop, or otherwise throw embers onto surfaces.
2) Also means that your candle can soot, which you’ll want to avoid
3) Things that smell nice on their own (like lavender) often do NOT smell good while on fire
4)If you add them on top like it has happened here it’ll also disturb your melt pool, your candle won’t melt evenly but will tunnel instead
I also mean absolutely no disrespect and I don't mean to put anyone down, Drew is one of my faves. Just wanted to give some helpful pointers!
@@carriebecker1097 i did this candle once and ended up doing the same with lilac. when I lighted up the candle, after a while the lilac parts started burning. I cant explain why but wanted to write the same precaution. Good that i was in the same room when it happened coz i added a lot of it...

I LOVE when well known TH-camrs partner with companies they believe in and actually use themselves prior to the partnership, and not just do it for a check like MANY do. Or atleast try the product or services themselves once they're aware the company wants to partner with them, and make sure it's something even worth promoting. I respect you for that Drew and that says a lot about you and your values. People shouldn't promote something unless they "know" it's good from PERSONAL experience, because their followers trust their judgement and will buy it thinking it must be good if the person they follow is saying so. Gift tip:
Dont ask someone what they want, just watch what they attract to. Often times , they dont know themselves and would rather you figure it out yourself. Trust me, the person will appreciate something personal rather than having had an idea of what youre getting and it will feel much more rewarding being creative 😌 (this does depend on the person though)
I keep a lost throughout the year of what people randomly say they want. It works great! Except for my brother who literally buys everything he wants

The first one you did- the trivet, reminded me of a combination of knitting and crocheting. I have some wool trivets that I corked as a little girl. My mom saved them and hand sewed them together and finally crocheted around the outside. She gave them to me after I got married 40 years ago and I still have them and use them!😀💗
It is a technique made on a lucet. It is similar to a knitting tool for circular knitting, only with two legs. Lucetted cord has been found since prehistoric time, and is a swift way of strengthening a cord (it ends upabout 8 times as strong as the original thread used).
It reminded me of loom bands and making bracelets 😂

You could even do bright colors for kids. When my son was little he liked little pouches like this. He would put small treasures and little toys in them and he especially enjoyed having this on a car ride! You’d just need to be sure not to give this to a very small child Incase there are any choke hazards with the grommet.

Be careful making candles. Make sure wick is the right size. EOs don't always give off a HT. Dried flowers, fruits and crystals can clog wick and or catch fire.

Such cute gift ideas! Just a little tip for the candle DIY: if you poor in the hot wax in layers, you could sprinkle the dried lavender on top of each layer and let it cool down completely before pouring in the next layer. By doing that, you can actually see multiple layers of dried lavender from the outside which looks a bit cuter. 😊

For the finger knitting: use your hole hand / all fingers exspeciallly when doing a bathroom mat as suggested. Goes way faster with same results. Great ideas! Love the frame too ❤️
