That’s what happens when you have a clueless GM who practically gets fleeced with every trade he made, and every contract he negotiated.
The guy was in ‘way over his head’…and everyone accepted it. How inept does one have to be at the GM post when even JVR can’t be moved?
What is even more mind-boggling is how stuff such as this is tolerated and accepted.
But stuff such as this is common in Flyerland.

The Flyers decided to make the move now first because they are losing even more season ticket holders after the trade deadline failure. The number of season ticket holders notifying them that they will not renew finally got them to make a change. Money speaks to Comcast. Second, a third year of missing the playoffs is financially costly to the Flyers. Third, national and local media has embarrassed Dave Scott and his bosses to motivate them to do something, but that was far from the main motivator. The loss of season ticket revenue and playoff revenue is what spoke to Flyers ownership
Why March 10 you ask? Cause Comcast knows their a planned Sell The Team Rally today and They wanted to give the fans something to hopefully deter fans from showing up today at Xfinity Live
Holmgren was GM, and understands the importance of the trade deadline... and Fletcher just continued to be a failure. Nothing he did improved the team...he was not a Flyer, and didn't understand the Flyers organization or what the Flyers are all about. Hextall started a rebuild, and Fletcher screwed it up. Once Fletcher paid Hayes $7M a year, I knew he was going to be a terrible GM. Hayes isn't a bad player, and he's a great teammate, but he's NOT worth, and has never been worth, $7M a year.

gr8 post! When they fired Hextall I knew the Flyers were finished....... they really need new ownership b/c the club is dead...... every single person in Flyers management should be fired...... when they did not go after Johnny Hockey I was shocked

When even the NHL network doesn’t talk about you, or even at times have the score of your game scroll across the screen, you know you’ve become unimportant in hockey. The Flyers have become that team.
Maybe it’s time to sell the team to owners with deep pockets.

For Al I'm 67 so I've been a Flyers Fan forever. Ok question Edmonton and McDavid have superior talent to us. They are loaded with #1 picks. What have they Won? NOTHING. All said I would rather have the Edmonton Oilers talent in Philly to watch. Playoffs and all.
Hextalls terrible drafting has turned into a mess .. Watching Grouix doin Grouix things for Ottawa is awesome .. Just happy he stayed away from Toronto!!

What assets exactly did Fletcher have to make big deadline moves? Playoff teams that made moves to improve had needs other than a JVR. Hart needs to stay. Flyers need to commit to a rebuild. Find a GM like Kevin Adams of the Sabres. Buffalo has a young skill team, good prospect pool, on track to be competitive next year. Torts would have been a bad match for the Sabres. Not so sure he’s the guy to shepherd the Flyers through a rebuild.
It's going to take years to fix the serious hot mess Fletcher worked so hard to create. They have some serious bad contracts that no one will take (Hayes, Risto, Atkinson) without some very serious salary retentions. Decisions need to be made on Provorov, Sandheim, Frost, and Farabee. Give Briere the job, he's earned the chance. See if he can work with Torts. Get rid of Dave Scott at Comcast, some former Flyers wasting space in the front office, and start looking for better people to operate the scouting dept (long overdue). Front office needs a total blood transfusion.
They need to get rid of Clarke, Holmgren, Barber and Lombardi. These are the guys that the CEO has been listening too an dthese are the guys that have destroyed this once proud organization.
Fletcher was a failure in MN, and they bring him here. Home Boy is another that has to go along with Clarke

I know he didn’t hit on all the picks he made and also made mistakes, but part of me feels we could have been in a better spot if Hextall was given another year or two. Again, I recognize he wasn’t perfect but he did get us TK and Hart, and I still have hope for Sanheim.
@@RyanJ_24 They need picks and cap. Whatever “talent” they have needs to be be allocated to gain both. Need to ax everyone in scouting, development, and the front office. They can’t tinker. It needs to be a massive rebuild. We’re five years away, if they start this off season
@@ericwittman3 I agree. TK, Hart, and Sanheim are all I would keep on the Flyers, and then maybe Frost and York. I am still not sure how I personally feel about Provorov. He may be salvageable, but I think he’d get Flyers a lot in a trade. He’s still young enough though that in a few years he’d still be young enough to keep around. Everyone else, trade or release or buyout. I’m glad Briere is at the helm now. He at least 1. Knows what good hockey is supposed to look like and 2. May be able to overhaul the scouting people
@@RyanJ_24It’s not Hextall, it’s not Fletcher, it’s not Vigneault, it’s not Torts. The problem is Dave Scott. The Flyers organization have not allowed any GM to do a real rebuild in the past decade. Until Dave Scott comes out and says that the new President has total autonomy to rebuild the team how he wants, it will be status quo. The Phillies made the culture change in 2006 by hiring Pat Gillick and gave him 100% control. He remade the whole culture and turned the Phillies into a big market team that would be willing to spend like the Yankees. The Flyers need to hire a President who will change the culture of the team and stop with these half a** retools every summer.

I would hate to see Hart go, but if he is a piece that can bring us some 1st and 2nd round picks, you have to move him.

IMO Fletcher should have been fired the minute he gave Risto that ridiculous extension.
As a Rangers fan still traumatized by the Broad Street Bullies, the Flyers have given me hockey joy for the last 48 years.
It’s funny that if the Flyers pull out of this mess that they’re in that the Rangers had a hand in making it happen bc I’m sure the Rangers fans taking over WFC had a part in Fletcher losing his job.

Well at least your team will be in the Playoffs (pains me to say this, but great moves by your GM, who displayed creativity, ingenuity, and shrewdness to get the Blueshirts ready for a Cup Run). Something you can look forward to; next year will be the 30th year anniversary when the Rangers last won the Cup, and 10 years since your team was in the Finals (and lost).
Now, for some reason, I don't feel so bad. In all seriousness, good luck in the Playoffs.
Get rid of Tortarella. He always mocks his own players to the press and many players don't want to play on any team he coaches. They should have made an effort to sign Barry Trotz. He knows how to build defensive minded teams and would have been a great choice to rebuild the Flyers.
