- The maiden flight of my new 6s RC Helicopter! This was my first kit helicopter, and I would definitely recommend one to anyone who is looking for a first giant size kit heli! Haha!! Thanks! That was such an exciting day!! I had so much time in building her and all the studying and programing and double triple checking everything oh my gosh so much money!! Plus she is my first built kit and I had no idea what I was doing........I'm still amazed I got it right!!! So many emotions going on that day.......I was shitting myself more than ever for sure!! Glad you enjoyed it man!!

Sadly last friday, 11-11-22, I made the mistake of doing a test spool up in my garage. I wanted a no wind environment to check the tip paths as mentioned in the 550x manual. Since you spooled yours in your room, I assumed it was ok to do here in my garage. Which at first, it was safe to do. I had 2 successful normal modes at 60% for about 30 seconds each. I noticed some tail creeping right from the torque with blades at zero pitch so I countered with slight rudder. ( I was so nervous, I struggle to remember if I moved the stick the correct way) I wish I had thought to video the event. After shut down, I was so excited I suspect I moved the linkage the wrong direction on the rudder servo. Spooled up again and I couldn't catch it tipping over, and in a one car garage, I didn't have time to counter...Instantly, there was a beautiful "chicken dance" and I smashed the main and tail blades to bits on a nearby piece of plywood and the cement floor. The mishap also ate the teeth on my front gearbox umbrella and pinion, and the auto rotation gear is missing about 6 teeth. Parts are ordered, and I am still licking my wounds, since as I replay this event in my head, I suspect I went the opposite direction with the tail linkage adjustment and attribute this to "pilot error." I also suspect I had the stick travel going opposite the correct direction, so I was the cause of my own "adventure" haha. Parts will arrive soon, and I'll be triple checking everything, prior to connecting the battery.

OH NO!! That sounds horrible! Not to mention scary as heck! I hope you are all ok. I can't imagine this giant heli tipping over during a spool up, I bet it all happened so fast! It is very intimidating with its swinging swords on it! I've had a tip over with my Blade 330X after I did a crash rebuild, that was super scary and it's nowhere near the size of the 550X! So sorry to hear that happened. Very sad day indeed. Glad you're ok though (hope you are anyways) so there is some good news. Plus, you think you know what went wrong so that's good.
Thanks for the congratulations on my maiden! It was amazing! I was so nervous and excited! Can't wait to see yours fly, they feel so good you're going to love it! And the sound coming from the giant blades is soooo good sounding! I can't wait to get out again, I told my wife I would wait until she could see the second flight since she missed the maiden, so I get to wait a couple of days but that's ok.

Wow that was amazing to see your trex 550x flight. But your wife wasn’t able to go and see the maiden flight.
It was such a fun maiden! I was very sad Halie couldn't go today, I almost didn't go because of that reason but she talked me into going still, she's the best! Luckily the 550X is still alive so Halie can see the second flight!
