What these first-impression interviews reveal is the amount of misinformation and misconceptions people in the US get fed about SA. Hopefully as more people come across The Real South Africa videos the narrative will start to change and reflect the truth.

Hi Mark, you are correct Cape Town water is very cold even in summer. Best beaches are in the Durban/KZN coastal.
Strand is a warm beach the all of the West Coast beaches are very cold.
Eastern cape side is also good and clean beaches
Gordon's Bay beach is also warm 40 minutes from Stellenbosch and the fish is nice as Hout bay

What African Americans think of Africa prior exposure is not very different from what some South Africans thinks of many other African nations in the continent due to stereotypes that were constantly spread around through mainstream media. To see black people in every luxury car that bypasses you is quite the opposite of being in the states. It's rare to see and some of us even turn in our luxury cars because police stop us more with them in the states. So many encouraging things to see in SA. It really feels like a home away from "home". I think November to Feb is the best time to visit!!
Just had a friend get stopped here in the states he was driving a newish Cadillac and first thing the police said was..hey that's a nice car!

@ 18:50 the brother mentions the DRESS CODE...I am from Papua New Guinea, and the very first time I heard good things about South Africa (after years of hearing about apartheid ) was in 1996.I was the only black person sitting inside a pub full of white people in Townsville, Australia, when a white South African man and his wife, a South African Indian woman, both walked towards me with big smiles on their faces. They thought I was from Africa but when I told them I was from Papua New Guinea, they began telling me about the positive things in South Africa.They told me about how the houses,apartments,hotels etc in South Africa are more stylish than the ones in Australia..then the man said this about the dress code in South Africa. "If you see the way Black boys in South Africa dress up, you'd think they just came down from Heaven, they look fantastic when they dress, they are on a different level when it comes to dressing"..
I was told this back in 1996 and now it's been fully confirmed.

As a South African. I would like to say to our diaspora the African Americans. We love you. Even though we are a majority In S.A. I meaning 90% majority to those who came and made South Africa their home our majority has now risen to 93% because of you. I am happy that we are are claiming the land of our fore fathers back. African Americans you welcomed in South Africa. Forget about the lies the west told.

In fact, I can identify with that; I have two myself, a girl (12) and a boy (10). The daughter is basically a female version of me (dark complexion and all 😝) her brother on the other hand, is quite light-skinned and is a spitting image of his mom!
