    Yes,i enjoyed this very much. I am 71,and this brings back wonderful memories. In the 60s i used to travel down to Devon on many occasions,complete with 3 course dinner ( waiter service of course ) all for the price of £15.50 inc,no cardboard sandwiches. Thank you so much for showing us these magnificent machines of days gone by.

    Amazing. There are still enough GWR locos around to run a skeleton Sunday service. The GUV behind the tender is reminiscent of the SyphonG which was often the first vehicle.

    Whoever arranged to put a pannier tank in front of a castle on the main line was not only very cruel, but showed a complete disregard for GWR/BR(W) operating procedures.

    Seeing Foxcote Manor on loan and on home territory brought a few tears to my eyes. I do hope she's safe. I'm so worried about her being locked up on the West Somerset Railway. She's my one true love and if anything should happen to her, I don't know what I would do. I'm lonely without her, I'm sure she's as distraught as I am. I just pray we will see each other again somewhere down the line.

    I do not see a coal tender in some of these shots. How do they fire the boiler?

    • @MarshSteamVideosTM
      @MarshSteamVideosTM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of these are tank engines, so the tender is built to the rear of the locomotive. If you look closely you'll be able to see the coal.

    What was going on in the final scene with all the "fireworks"?

    • @MarshSteamVideosTM
      @MarshSteamVideosTM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were detonators, which were due to be discarded because their shelf life was almost up, so instead of just being thrown away, they were used. The purpose of this is to warn of danger; detonators form part of what is known as 'Emergency Protection' which on the railway refers to the method of trying to prevent any approaching trains from colliding with or becoming involved in an emergency situation which has already taken place, they're also used to alert train crews about track workers further up the line.

    Why GWR 4270 (6.40) and some others works practically without any smoke?

    • @markturner4219
      @markturner4219 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      because they have good coal being used by good firemen. A well fired steam locomotive should make barely any visible smoke while working. If an engine is continuously making a lot of smoke it is either poor quality coal, poor quality firing or both.

      Minimal ! British steam trains contribute to around about 0.2% Of net carbon emissions annually in the U.K. Charcoal barbecues pollute more !
