Peter Beardsley brought joy to football fans wherever he played but nowhere more so than at St James' park. He's my favourite of them all and I'm proud to be a Geordie because of players like Beardsley, Gazza, Waddle, Keegan and Shearer. God, just listen to the way he's talking at the end about playing for Newcastle, about how lucky he is to play for the club. Please God, send us another Beardsley soon!

My daughter is a Newcastle fan and watches all the old footage and always asks me questions as I had a season ticket during Beardsley's second spell at Newcastle. She once asked if Beardsley was right or left-footed?.....I simply answered "yes"

He was heroic in any shirt, but when he played for England it was magic, devastating to defenders, he must have been frightening to play against. Peter used to come out to see us train and play on the Vancouver Whitecap reserves, in the early 80's, before he went back to play in England. Meeting him and watching him play, he was always very humble and confident. A real gentlemen if there ever was one. I had no idea that he was going to become a star player in and for England. But thinking back, remembering seeing him train and play. How hard he worked to become the player he did. It is not much of a surprise to me now.

United fan, but he was a fantastic player. Why on Earth Sir Alex turned down the chance to sign him when he was with Vancouver is beyond me.
I always felt he had a “matador” quality about him - when he would bemuse defences.
