I just keep thinking about how originally, "hero" just meant someone of divine birth. I wonder where along the lines we started thinking it meant someone good.
It doesn't necessarily mean someone of divine birth [though heroes do usually have divine lineage in their ancestry, it may not be their parentage]. In context, a hero is someone who is capable of great feats [regardless of the morality of those feats] and suffers some form of tragedy. It just becomes more "believable" that a single person can beat a whole army or whatever if they happen to be the kid of a god [which is why they often were divine], but there are non divine-born heroes, like Diomedes, Agamemnon, Ajax [the Great, of Homeric myth], or even Sisyphus [considered an absurd hero, who cheated death twice, but was punished for it].
That's the problem with real history, people don't want to know the real aspects of History none of these people in Greek mythology Were Heroes, since they were flawed people because they were supposed to resemble the gods who were flawed themselves like all religions that are man-made.
Facts in Percy Jackson Luke was remembered as a hero Even when he tried to kill a child multiple times send said child to Greek hell and start WW3 plus groom another 12 year old 😂 like what did you all forget he tried to Kill you 5 minutes ago. Your storytelling ability is superb. You have a way of capturing my undivided attention as you reveal the unsavory truth about these classic figures. Keep up the wonderful work. It is purely outstanding.
I struggle more and more to find moral instruction in ancient Greek mythology. "Ah, but you have to appreciate, it was a different time, Pete." Fuck that! Give me The Brothers Grimm, or Aesop, any day.
That's because greek myth is rarely about morality. There are sometimes lessons, such as in the story where Prometheus tricks Zeus into eating animal fat rather than meat, because Zeus believed his omniscience meant he didn't need to use logic [therefore, "even if you're knowledgable, be sure to think about your answers and solutions"]. Overall, though, it's less about morality, and more about how the whims of the gods effect the destiny of mortals. This is why you please the gods, so as not to be a victim of those whims.
But this is why Greek mythology is so fascinating: it is in many ways a reflection of the collective shadow of ancient Greek societies. You can gauge from them what the Greeks feared and what they valued. They also contain many recurring truths of human nature.
I need to tell you that the real Brothers Grimm and Aesop’s Fables were not that g rated either. Look at the real stories and not the sanitized ones, they are just as bad. Humans always had a penchant for noticing and remembering episodes that were rife with violence and bad behavior.

OH yeah, it's Saturday and my boy dropped a video with some knowledge and humor to it!! Time to get stoned and veg out for the next few minutes or so!!! I've earned it. 😂😂❤❤❤❤
Great video👏👏👏. I love how Theseus and Pirithous thought they could just kidnap a goddess, queen of the underworld no less, and make her play housewife. Like she couldn't just say no to some mortals or have her very powerful god-of-the-underworld husband just smack the hell out of them. Greek mythology's crazy.
I think it's ironic that Athena is the protector god of women when you consider the whole Medusa storyline. She did a great job of not only failing to protect her but also totally just victim-blaming her and making her a total monster who later gets slain by another hero and worn as a shield ornament. I don't know who has it worst, her or Scylla. I feel like Aries does a far better job of protecting women and everyone hates Aries for whatever reason.
I feel like a recurring theme in Greek mythology is a lack of communication. Like there's so many times where one of the characters could just confront the person they think betrayed them before ordering their execution or whatever but they never do until it's JUST too late lmao
I don’t know why King Aegean couldn’t have waited until everyone got off the ship to figure out if his son was dead or not instead of just throwing himself off a cliff just because he saw a black sail, but he didn’t actually check
