    As a longtime Crimson fan, I think Belew is the heir apparent to Fripps' throne - the mad looping and some of his solos are influenced by Fripp, yet they move beyond due to his own style - I wonder perhaps if that is why there no longer was room in KC for Adrian after so many years, two very large talents (Jakko is no threat) - such a great trio BTW, always amazing to see how much he loves music

    • @GCKelloch
      @GCKelloch ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Belew said playing Fripps music gave him anxiety. I can understand that. Fripp is great, but that KC was too rigid.

    • @reneharde3459
      @reneharde3459 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GCKelloch I can imagine that to be the case, live - AB is the opposite end of the spectrum from Fripp. He is all energy and smiles and Fripp is stock still and intensely focused - that tension did create some amazing music though

      @@Glornt There is a history there you may not be fully aware of. I haven't heard 100% of the story, but what I heard was the '80's KC (the greatest, IMHO) was becoming dominated by Adrian, and moving away from Fripp's overbearing influence, and the other players, who also knew Fripp might replace them any moment, wanted Adrian to displace and replace Fripp, which Fripp started to sense, and dissolved that version of KC more or less. Adrian was invited back to the later incarnation, but more on a part time basis. Anyone have more to add to that?

Was at the venue early and heard some familiar music going; it was ABPT at soundcheck. Stood there in aw and they performed bits of the repertoir; no complaints or asked to get out. Then at the gig Julie had some trouble with a pedal not working and Adrian just played some cool stuff and they soon got on with the gig again. Being a Zappa and Crimson alumni, it's very ok to feel like a kid listening to him. Glad he's still got it.

    I bought and played these "burnt crown" Meinl cymbals while in Germany in 1986. I left Germany in 1988 and wanted to buy more but could not find them in the US at that time. They were great cymbals then, and I would guess they are even better know. What impressed me about them was the clarity live and especially on recordings. The high overtones are there, but don't quite overtake the fundamentals. Also, the sound was very consistent...that is, more tolerant of slight variations in striking force. This gave the feel of having better control of the cymbal sound.
    Assuming they sound as good as the ones then (and from this video, they sure sound it), I highly recommend them.

    Musicians know what is going on around minute 4:55 - 5:07 then till 5:18 give or take a few seconds. Sweating all of that. Love it!

    Awesome!!!! So glad youtube randomly gave me this!
    Dig the use of the looper.
    Thats how I jam. I have a drum emulator and a pitch shifter for bass, and loop several dubs and solo all over it.
    I love that synth sound on the guitar, the bass is insane and the drums wow just solid talent.
    The only other trio I seen make this much noise is Primus!!

    This is ACTUALLY a power trio, wow! I never knew before about Julie or Jordan, but they build and insane rhythm section. Adrian Belew... what can you say. I saw him playing with the Talking Heads back in '83 or something... Blew my mind. And with King Crimson... I remember that "elephant sound" he made... Far out, man. I need to update myself with this guy.
