Try This Photography Approach & You’ll Get Amazing Results

- Now when exploring a new location for the first time, it is important to take your time and look at the area with your photographer’s eye, otherwise, you may miss an opportunity to photograph an area, and given that this was my first time at this location with my camera, you would think that I would take my own advice? Absolutely not, as on this occasion I wasn’t exploring alone, I was tagging along with a local who knew the way and more about the areas of interest.
However, even with this knowledge we decided that a different approach would be needed, not a fixed and steady one, but more of a run-and-gun one. The reason was the light was fleeting and the gaps in the clouds were moving fast, resulting in possible shots coming and going just as fast. We need to allow the light to guide us on this adventure, be fluid in our approach and be on the lookout for compositions on the fly.
I had already had a taste for the area which I detailed in my last Blog and Video, and as we continued to drive along the many winding roads, I was drawn to the scenery and captivated by the light. The views in this area of Connemara were simply stunning, and I wonder what would be the first thing to stop us in our tracks, grab the cameras and shoot?

Fantastic part of the country great photos at 6.10 and the shot at 8.10 ! Fairplay to Bernard yea cant beat local knowledge
Thanks a lot Pat, Yeah was great to have him there for sure..
I always find Connamara and Mayo has some dramatic landscape scenes, especially when the light is changing.
It’s a fantastic place alright isn’t it
Lovely locations and light, some beautiful images and an enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much Ralph, a stunning place to play
Nice video and some stunning views. Good to see Bernard again this week.
Cheers Bro! He takes over next week 😂
Hi Darren, great video, buddy! Oh yes, sometimes we have to be quick. I had the same situation in my video from yesterday. It was even quite difficult to vlog as the light always formed a new composition 😊
Oh man, you got some amazing shots. I love those with the light rays. I also love so much to shoot in conditions like that.
Thanks for the video and nice greetings,
Christian
Thank you very much buddy! It was a great adventure ! Yours is on my watch list 😍
Wonderful drive. Stunning area & images.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much Ann
Beautiful scenery for sure. The music though aaarrgghhh! I watched most of the video with the sound turned off, so not a clue what you were talking about.
Sorry about that :-) subtitles for the win so 💪 Thanks for watching Paul! Hope your eardrums heal soon 🫣
Very nice Darren. Where is that small road at the beginning of your video? That one with the bridges through the mountains? I didn’t recognise.
Thank you very much
It’s by Lough Inagh I think
I've seen you on other photography youtubers channels, and so when the algorithm served me up this video I thought I'd give it go. A new approach to photography says the title? Something new to learn; sounds good. Surely it won't be clickbait. Oh dear, how wrong i was. Lovely images for sure, and I know you have to battle the algorithm for views, but nothing puts me off faster than blatant clickbait titles. No sub, sorry.
Thanks for watching , I appreciate you taking the time to comment however I feel I must refute your clickbait claim, click bait is a title that promises something different to what’s within and this video matches exactly what it suggests! Perhaps for your superior knowledge it may not be new to you and that’s commendable however as you mentioned the algorithm decided to serve it up for you so it suggests that you are interested in photography related videos! Perhaps I’m misinformed? Let’s discuss please
As i said, I clicked as i was keen to learn. I make no claim to any superior knowledge; far from it. I am your viewership; a photographer keen to learn. The "approach that gets great results" though was, in my opinion, rushing about and chasing the light and that has left me unimpressed. It may work for you as you are clearly a good photographer. It may not be a good approach for many others though. Especially when you consider the prevelence of the advice to slow down for better images.
I have learned a hell of a lot from photographers on TH-cam through excellent teaching and well planned content. However, what is becoming far more common is for youtubers to head out on a photography trip somewhere, film what they do, and then think up a loose "do this" or "avoid this mistake" type title afterwards. You'll tell me I'm wrong of course, but it's painfully obvious across many channels, all trying to get the clicks in. Some have rebelled (Chris Orange, Nigel Danson to name a few) and have said as much.
If thats what you want to do feel free. It's not for me though.
@@mattbibbings thanks, so not clickbait, it did exactly as it said on the cover and description! I agree with planned shoots as it’s a philosophy I teach as it is very beneficial, not only for shots but also for self! This video was about trying a different approach which can be beneficial given the right circumstances, and these were the right circumstances. I also agree with your sentiment of others, and if you look back at the over 400 videos I’ve made perhaps you might see that I don’t subscribe to that “clickbait” philosophy ! I respect your opinion of course but not your statement of it being clickbait ! Thanks again for watching, hopefully the Algorithm will cross our paths again in the future!
Matt, definitely respect what you’re saying but rather than zone in on titles and description, forget about those for a minute and just look at the video and you will learn. For instance, like when Darren said about when light is travelling fast along the landscape, put the camera into burst mode so you don’t miss a thing. That’s just one example.
If you watch TH-cam to learn, which is great. Learning just one or two things per video is a great return especially if you’re watching multiple channels.
Don’t even get onto me about algorithms 😂 as someone who doesn’t do TH-cam videos, it’s constantly a game of keeping up with the algorithms so your stuff is seen and that is so hard in itself and that’s before a video is even shot or edited.
Anyways, I’m probably talking through my arse here but always nice to meet and shoot together Darren 🫡 another brilliant video man!
Darren, please less driving on the road scenes, and more taking the photos, thank you.
This is the last as mentioned last week Kev :-) p
