When I started DCS, I searched hard for you flying the Su25t to no avail. Even now, I'd still love that and getting your feeling compared to the A10 would be cool and probably inspiring to newcomers Thanks again for the videos and awesome flying
I suggest that when the Dieppe update comes out for IL-2 Cliffs of Dover/Desert Wings-Tobruk that you do some videos with it. It will be the only major WWII sim around with a flyable B-17. It is getting the early Fw 190-As an early Typhoon early P-51 Bf 109 G-2 and many other aircraft. Oh plus VR will be added and a graphic update. I always like this sims flight model
Occasionally, a Spitfire flies over my house. The sound of that lone Merlin engine almost brings a tear to the eye. I cant imagine what it was like to see whole squadrons of them flying over 85 years ago.
Same here in Suffolk. It truly is a sight to behold when you hear that Merlin engine and stirs up both pride and respect for those brave pilots in WWII.
I live on the Norfolk coastline in the UK, and when metal detecting, we are constantly picking up .303 rounds that were fired by Spitfires and Hurricanes during WW2

Spitfire chief designer R.J. Mitchell, when told one time too many how beautiful the Spitfire was, snapped back "oh for Heaven's sake, it's only a bloody aeroplane!". He died of cancer in 1937, age 42.
He also did not like to hear the British government had given his plane the name Spitfire. He said "Spitfire? Only the government could come up with anything that ridiculous!"

The name Spitfire was chosen by the company as it was a sometimes used nickname of the daughter of Sir Robert Maclean, the CEO of Vickers-Armstrong which was the parent company of Supermarine. This was in 1936, the 'Government' (who actually did not choose equipment of vehicle names), simply used the name the Company already called the aircraft, something that was common in the UK. Mitchell did not like the name Spitfire, and preferred Shrew or Scarab. While a fine aircraft designer Mitchell was not quite so proficient when it came to naming his creations.... Mitchell knew the British military procurement process of the time well enough to know that the Government did NOT in fact pick the name of equipment or vehicles. The common name was usually the one the company who built the aircraft named it. While later guidelines did stipulate the form those names took (cities, words beginning with C, and so on), the British were mostly happy to go with the names given by the various companies as the Military designations were generally harder to remember, much as in the US system.... How many people actually call the M4 Sherman by its proper US Army designation for example? The British system was much the same. Only the logistics guys tended to refer to equipment by its proper military designation.

the rolls royce merlin is such an amazing sound and the Packard made merlins in the p51 are a close second. yes theirs a slight difference in the sound but they are both absolutely amazing sounding.. we also need a time machine video. euro fighter goes back and defends ww2 England!!!
I read First Light by Geoffrey Wellum a couple of months ago, it's very good, he was a Spitfire pilot, the youngest RAF pilot in the Battle of Britain.

How was the Spitfire a "Stealth fighter"? Only night fighters had radars back then, and I don't think people really understood radar cross sections near as well at that time.
@@robertbethell DCS doesn't have a Griffon Spit. So far as I know the only Spit they have is the Mk IX, which was variously powered by the Merlin 60 or Merlin 61 in the F models, the Merlin 66 in the most common LF models or Merlin 70 in the HF model. I don't have DCS but I'd bet their Spit IX is either Merlin 61 or Merlin 66 powered.
I've been watching your videos for about 2 years and I always look forward to them. I would love to get into DCS just for the WWII stuff. This one is in my top 3 favorites so far. I especially like the touch of adding "British Grenadiers" to it! While I'm not British, I appreciate what they accomplished in 1940. Pure bad assert.
Spitfire was such a beautiful aircraft and still is man. They look so good. That and the mustang were amazing. World war two dog fights were something different. Amazing to watch so what a great video champ.
The pilots were built different back in the day. No fancy equipment, just some guns and a map. The time to kill on WW2 birds was also much longer due to often lower caliber weapons than we see today. Crazy how many hits they take and keep flying.
Was in Ireland a couple years ago and heard that distinctive growl, looked up, and there was a Spitfire, Hurricane, and I think a Manchester (couldn't recall if it had 2 or 4 engines). Couldn't get my phone out in time to record but it was awesome!
Great stuff! Much as I love the Spitfire though, it’d be really interesting to see the real workhorse of the RAF at that time, the Hurricane, in action. A much less glamorous aircraft, but it was the backbone of Britain’s air defence.
Let's just hope and pray nothing comes of WWIII. Two world wars were enough already and they (apart from Hiroshima and Nagasaki) were without Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Yes, they were easier to produce and focused on the bombers due to them being slow. Hurricanes wouldn't have been able to match a 109 or 190 - only the spitfire could do that. Each plane played their part.
Hawkinge - ‘Hellfire Corner’ where some of the fiercest fighting took place during the BofB. There’s a great museum there these days with a number of Luftwaffe casualties! You cheated a little bit with cannon armed Spits which weren’t widely used in 1940.

this was the whole reason i got dcs in the first place. to fly over the white cliffs in a spitfire and fight a 109 over the channel. bliss

Might be a Griffon engine by the looks of that spit - looks like a much later model. I'm not sure! Maybe it's a mk. ix in which case it's a merlin! 🤷

Yeah mostly due to heavy german bombers.
Yes, they were easier to produce and focused on the bombers due to them being slow. Hurricanes wouldn't have been able to match a 109 or 190 - only the spitfire could do that. Each plane played their part.
