I’d love to see a video on how you’ve transitioned from your first video to where you are today. Your ups, your downs. Some tips you’ve learned along the way and also what motivated you to keep at it! ~Intern~
Derek Stephens, another Buckeye who has been coming to the gulf for decades. Love this part of the gulf and just bought a place in Ft. Morgan. Have had a few days of no fish, but never a bad week. Visit often and enjoy the great beaches and fishing.
Love that music: This is the Story of my Life I live in Alabama with my Wife, Fishing is how I'm spending my days, hoping to catch the Whiting Craze.....sorry, kinda reminded me of the Fresh Beachbum of Gulf Shores....ha ha Great Video, Younger, leaner and less hairy!!!!!
Nice background music! You were winded after the walk to the water. XD Looks like you were using Fish Bites way back then! Short hair in the summer. :) You've come a long way in nearly 5 years!
You might wanna look into those big grey tires for your cart there a little pricey but make those long hauls across sand easier. I’m a local and I love your channel, glad I found it.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Great content. Although I live in DFW, I surf fish along the TX gulf coast several times a year. I have always used 30lb mono on my Battle 2 6000 and 8000 series rods primarily targeting bull reds and whatever else is biting. Considering moving to braid on my surf set ups. Do you tie your braid directly to whatever drop rig you are using or do you use some sort of mono or fluro leader and then tie that to your rig?
If you're not throwing more oz's of lead than per 10lbs of test for your main line don't worry about topshotting or shock leaders, just don't try throwing it to the Moon or anything like that. If you are trying to throw 3-6 oz lead plus bait on 20-30lb line yeah you'll want a shock leader just so you don't shred your finger. It's been my experience you'll get cut up before you break off.
I really like your fishing videos . One small suggestion is try a tripod to hold the camera. Watching your hand go around and around is making me crazy. Thank you.
Found your channel from Twitter. Great video, good editing. Ill have to check out Orange Beach on my next Gulf trip. Usually hit just east of Panama. Sub'd, Keep it up -Mike D
+Hooks and Leaders Fishing thank you!! You should definitely check out this area, we have some great fishing! I’m not on Twitter, how’d you find me there?
Might have been a link someone else shared a still for the video showed up in my feed and caught my attention... actually took me to another site. When I clicked the video it brought me to your channel
I hope my channel can turn out like yours. I've learned alot from yours in general in the last two years. Glad I got a bummy stick to feature in my videos when I start
I have a Penn Fierce 2 (2,000 or 2,500) and I just bought the battle 2 4,000 that is still in the box until vacation in the Florida panhandle May 3rd. I have the 7ft rod that came with my fierce (bought the combo). I'd like to buy an ugly stick when I get down there for my battle 2. What would be the BEST setup (in your opinion) for both these rods/reels for surf fishing? I have a gotcha plug, a silver and gold spoon, 3 different colors of rooster tails, some 3 in and 6in Berkeley gulp shads, and a handful of rattle and poppers. I would love to be more successful from the beach and get away from ONLY using shrimp and squid and sitting and waiting.
Hey Beach bum! I'm gonna make my own pompano rigs for a trip to fort morgan in late June, but I haven't been able to find any of those floats you use on each hook loop. Where do you get yours? Maybe I'll cross paths with you, will you be near the fort the 23-30th? Loving the vids so far!
What are the metal sand spikes you're using and any comments pro or con regarding them is appreciated. Sebating making some free PVC style or buying better ones if they're worth the investment. Nice video and thanks.
I had a welder make them for me. They are aluminum. I was using PVC before, which works fine, but it was the thinner PVC and it would break after a while. The only think I don’t like about the aluminum is when you slide the rod butt in it sometimes knocks the reel hard and causes chips in the reel seat. Some cushioning would help out with it but I don’t have anything to put on there. Other than that they are very nice and hold up for a while.
Ive heard in a couple of your videos say "I hope its not a catfish".... When I was down there last October that is probably half of what we caught was a bunch of baby catfish. Is there a way to avoid catching mostly those when using a pompano rig
When they are around there isn’t much you can do if you are bottom fishing like that. Sometimes using sand fleas will slow them down, but they will still hit it.
Love it! Definitely can tell you put the editing time into this one! How far you think you throwing? I always walk out in the water about waste deep and throw. Leave bail open while I walk back.
All depends on where I'm fishing and how the bar and gut are set up. But all the fish I was catching in the video were no more than 20 yards off the beach. I had some rods out further, maybe 40 yards but they were only catching small cats. You usually don't have to throw far.
I haven’t been using them lately, but you can get them online or at some tackle stores depending on your locations. If you are around the gulf coast most places have them!
They have them at lure parts online, item number 2300/*/* about ten cents a piece come in twenty packs. Depending on how clear the water is you may want a different color, generally yellow and chartreuse work, red works but isn't as visible as far away.
The little catfish are the worst; more worse than big hardheads. Nice vid but it was pretty windy out. At least your catching good fish instead of more hardheads.
That was kinda rude on the runner's behalf. I mean, she saw that you were fishing and had lines in the water. She could have been, at least, somewhat respectable and ran around your lines. Just thinking out loud.....
Walking with your cart is a workout. Try walking straight down to the water then turning and pulling your cart on the hard wet packed sand. A lot easier
I try to get there early and wear a meat harness, keeps the swimmers, other fisherman and whatnot away, only people that will bother with you are cougars.
well I think you're really rude of those people to come sit right up beside of you knowing you're sitting there fishing and they're going to try to come down or sit on the beach and go swimming
I’d love to see a video on how you’ve transitioned from your first video to where you are today. Your ups, your downs. Some tips you’ve learned along the way and also what motivated you to keep at it!

Enjoying the videos! I decided to start with your oldest videos watch my way back to present. Appreciate ya brother!
You are in it to win it man! Appreciate ya! 🤙
Before BBB became the whiting master 11 out of 10 fish were hitting the sand ;)
Thx for the throwback vid
I am vacationing in Gulf Shores next week, I'm glad I found your videos. I am a Buckeye and this will be my first trip to the Gulf ever.
Derek Stephens thanks! I hope you catch a bunch!

Thanks for the work.

Yes, the gray tires are the way to go! I just don’t have the money to pay for them.
@@BamaBeachBum get a two wheeled garden cart.
We used to walk that BEFORE the walkway was there. That, my friend, was a workout. LOL
I like how the TH-cam algorithm requests videos on the same month but years later
Great job Matthew!!! Can't wait to see more 😉
Thank you!

Awesome video, especially for beginning!!

Dude, I feel your pain! Me and my wife are always complaining about the walk to the beach and then the walk to get away from all the people.
Looks like you found your razor! Nice.
Such a baby face. This old man is laughing. Lmao 🤣Baby Face
Enjoyed the first trip.

The page was AquaSkinz just found it
Hi Matthew am from India tamilnadu ur videos super am happy to watching
I just started my channel and I can tell ya your first video is a whole lot better than my first video.
The crew did you about whiting fish so much that's the first fish you ever caught on your videos
Enjoying the videos man. Nice hauls. I was curious in this video what model cart you were using. Also what size cooler in the cart. Thanks.
Beach Bum Is The Best!!!
I hope my channel can turn out like yours. I've learned alot from yours in general in the last two years. Glad I got a bummy stick to feature in my videos when I start
Admit it bama beach bum is the best TH-camr surf fisherman
Well my usual hike 3 miles from 4600 feet to 7000 feet. But that is very hard to do in Alabama. Lol
I have a Penn Fierce 2 (2,000 or 2,500) and I just bought the battle 2 4,000 that is still in the box until vacation in the Florida panhandle May 3rd. Whole lot better than any of my videos. 😆

I get the floats at local tackle shops here in town. But I would think you could find some on Amazon if you search "Pompano Floats"
What are the metal sand spikes you're using and any comments pro or con regarding them is appreciated. Sebating making some free PVC style or buying better ones if they're worth the investment. Nice video and thanks.

Thank you Sir
buy a can of plastidip. dip, dry, repeat til you get the thickness you would like.
Wow your hair was short. You're still the whiting master!
Great video
Maybe wider tires or longer axle and double tires?
What is a good beginner surf fishing rods combo
Thanks for shows ,I'd never make the walk
Classic BBB!!!

I love the video beach bum
So just curious why not cut up a whiting and use that on a rod or two?
Got to work on that release..............>LOL!!!!

You have come a long way since your first video. I enjoy watching your channel and your enthusiasm for fishing.
So I've noticed some of your rigs have the little yellow floats above the beeds, do you see a difference in hits on the rigs that have those floats?
Sometimes they can be picky and not hit floats. Right now I am running no floats and no beads.
@@BamaBeachBum they also make smaller ones in many colors.
what rod/reel are you using?
Sunshine Sunny I primarily use the Penn Battle 2 combo in this video. I like Penn, that is what all of my reels are. Just different models.
I wanna know where you heading?
What is your take with the yellow styrofoam, as a floater or yellow color attractant?
I haven’t been using them lately, but you can get them online or at some tackle stores depending on your locations. If you are around the gulf coast most places have them!
They have them at lure parts online, item number 2300/*/* about ten cents a piece come in twenty packs. Depending on how clear the water is you may want a different color, generally yellow and chartreuse work, red works but isn't as visible as far away.
My take is it makes your bait more nuetraly bouyant in the surf/current.
Try cut up Nerf darts!
Not bad
Throwbacks lol
GET BALLOON TIRES!
Walking with your cart is a workout. Try walking straight down to the water then turning and pulling your cart on the hard wet packed sand. A lot easier
I typically do that, sand is still pretty soft around OB, it’s a butt kicker most days.
Hi dude
I try to get there early and wear a meat harness, keeps the swimmers, other fisherman and whatnot away, only people that will bother with you are cougars.
short hair and catchy music lol...i'd paid a dollar to see you hook that dude that kept walking behind you when you were casting.
Love the wife .
You are doing the best exercise by walking in that sand.
well I think you're really rude of those people to come sit right up beside of you knowing you're sitting there fishing and they're going to try to come down or sit on the beach and go swimming
4 years later this looks like baby beach bum
Lose the long hair and beard.
