this felt really significant to me, for some reason. maybe it's the fact that they're in the dark. there are no teachers or songs, no house, and you can't see the walls. everything feels less claustrophobic than usual. maybe it's because it's the last scene with only them together, alone, in all the episodes so far. or maybe it's the way red guy says it. he turns away a little, and his voice gets a tiny bit softer. "I like looking at you" is nothing like everything else they've both seen, all the torture they've been through. I'd never felt like they were closer to escaping than in that moment.

It bothers me so much when people are like "they're just friends!! Not everything has to be romantic 😠" when I know if one of them was a woman and one of them was a man they would 100% think of that as a romantic scene. I don't necessarily ship them, (I do for funnies but other than that not really) but I don't like when people hate on others who like this ship.

If you've seen any theory videos on the original webseries, it's widely accepted that DHMIS was conceived as a critique of the commercialization and corruption of UK children's media. But they've churned out good stuff too. This interaction here, so mundane and gentle and sweet compared to the mean-spirited chaos everywhere else, is scene the only moment this franchise has reminded me of more earnest kid's media. Thomas the Tank Engine and the Winnie the Pooh books came to mind

I don’t think the consent spam forced them to make it canon or anything. I think their relationship originally wasn’t meant to be romantic, but the creators ended up liking the ship, so it’s kinda semi canon now.

I can deffinitely why people would take this as romantic, and I doesn't matter if it is, but I didn't really see it as that (And I kind of hope it's not from a thematic standpoint). Other than Yellow Guy, none of the characters really show interest in romantic relationships throughout the series, and they're all also pretty mean spirited toward one another, only opening up about their honest feelings occasionally after rough experiences. This scene kind of felt like the ultimate payoff for these two's character archs on that sentiment. Where Duck thinks only of himself above the others, and Red is sort of apathetic toward everything and everyone, the two finally admit in this moment that despite their attitude toward eachother, they actually care; Just in their own, socially awkward way. Even in the unending dark nightmare, at least being able to see the house meant familiarity, and being able to see one another meant they knew they weren't going through it all alone... Or maybe it is just a gay romance! I ain't gonna ruin the shippers fun 😂

It’s honestly really tragic. They are forever trapped in this purgatory, but there are moments where the characters see the world as it truly is they still value each other in their own way.
It's really sweet seeing them having genuine, sweet moments like this after they spend the entire series hating eachother.
